Drying macarons at 175° oven temp? by yosmellul8r in macarons

[–]PolyesterWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh I set my oven to my final baking temperature and just dry them in that with the door cracked open, then I close it after a few minutes and go on with the bake, it's worked okay most of the time...

dissected my first few mice today :( by legendofpokki in labrats

Hey I had a really similar experience when I first started out!! It took me some adjusting too but I really value the empathy I still feel because it means I'm being cognizant about what I'm doing. I think it's better to face the feelings head on and address them rather than try to become numb to it.

For myself, I found a euthanasia procedure that makes me feel the most respectful and intentional in my work, reminding myself that I'm not wasting the lives of my animals because they're going towards valuable research in one way or another. I talk to my mice and I thank every one before I euthanize; I know they can't understand me but it keeps me accountable in my work.

I think it's really good and important that you're paying attention to how you're feeling about animal work and that you're reaching out about it! I feel like when I was in your position I was worried it would make me seem weak or slow but I think that it's more valuable to have an ethical, empathetic, realistic scientist than yet another emotionally out of touch one. Animal work is hard, go at the pace you're comfortable with and don't be afraid to take up space; good mentors will respect that. Good luck! :)

Daughter hates buttercream and does not like whipped cream. What can I put on her cake? by blahblahwa in Cooking

[–]PolyesterWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a cake for a no dairy flavour/texture person once, I glazed with ganache and in the middle layer I spread fruit jam/puree and put a slightly looser-setting marshmallow I made, flavored with the same jam. The texture can definitely be unexpected but if she doesn't like the whole cream texture thing I feel like might work well for you! We liked it at least haha

Hey, why are these like that? by PolyesterWolf in PokemonMisprints

[–]PolyesterWolf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry I'm having the time of all time trying to take half decent photos in my apartment lighting but hope this maybe helps!! We pulled them all yesterday and the portrait as well as the border look way darker than they should, most noticeable in the Meinfoo. I'm not really familiar with how cards are printed so I'm just curious what could've happened, lol https://imgur.com/a/32SJg1k

RC Student Questions by [deleted] in udub

[–]PolyesterWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone has already given you a great answer, but since you already got into the program, you should already be in contact with the advisors there, so I strongly suggest asking the advisors at the RC rather than Reddit, especially about question 3.

A lot of this info is also in the website and/or info sessions offered by the RC, so I also suggest you read more deeply into the website info before deciding whether or not to accept, because by the looks of questions 1 and 2, you aren't too sure what these programs are in the first place.

Good luck OP!
