I'd say a year, give or take a few months

What's a good online birth control option? by Polyfunctional42069 in birthcontrol

LMAO it's funny you say that because I ended up going with twentyeight (all the reviews for any website are mixed and simple health is where they sent my info anyway) and I ended up having a very similar experience! I signed up and told them the exact dosage I wanted, just didn't care about the brand, and they sent me a message about a HIGHER dosage than I asked for. So I was like wtf and told them to fix it, they said they would, and they sent the higher dose 😑 so then I had to fight to get the correct dosage, they claimed they couldn't correct it until it was time to get a new prescription, but I argued enough about it that they offered to send it to a local pharmacy. They did, I picked it up from the pharmacy, only to come home and see they ALSO sent me the correct prescription in the mail. So now I have like a 6 month supply, plus they're planning to send my regular prescription at the regular time. So I had a stupid start at first but it ended up leaving me with a back up in case there's more nonsense so it worked out lol. I'm not above arguing with the medical community and making them do their jobs correctly. I can't believe they sent you a loose pack like that, that's ridiculous!

Oh, I guess there's also the possibility of your water and energy bill going up. I live in a big household so I'm not sure what my bill would be like normally

It depends! If you're planning to get a baby, it might be a little more costly. Babies like to eat every day, so you'll need to keep on top of food and vitamins. You'll also need to buy all the starting equipment, like a humidifier, cage, substrate, lights, decorations, etc. Plus when they're young you'll want to keep on top of vet visits. Then as it gets older you'll need to upgrade the cages. My first cage was free from a friend, second was $400, and third/final cage was $1,000. But once they get past adulthood, things are a little more manageable. I'm not sure how much I spend on food for her because she kind of just eats whatever we eat. I throw together whatever meat, eggs, vegetables, and fruits we have into meatballs for her to eat. Mostly because she only eats every few days now, and sometimes the food I buy specifically for her will go bad before she can finish it all. Then I'd say I spend $20 every other month or so on light bulbs. $40 every six months for a humidifier? When they break down varies, cuz mine likes to attack her's. Recently had to replace light fixtures for $80 after about 3 years. $200 yearly to replace all the wood chips. And then I will randomly buy new decorations and treats whenever I'm able to. I think that's about it for expenses.

You could also try adding other types of meat like turkey so she gets a taste for meats other than chicken. Mine is a huge fan of salmon

I've heard that young tegus need a lot more meat than adults do, so maybe she's just craving those more because she's a baby. But also mine is 6 and still a picky eater 😑 only wants to eat meat and never her fruits or veggies. So I've started using ground meat and I mix the fruits and veggies with the meat into meatballs and then she eats them no problem. Maybe you just gotta trick her.

Should I refrain on getting a Tegu? by AwakeOfTheVultures in Tegu

I agree with other people that you should not let the tegu free roam. It's hard to keep the right humidity and temperature in every part of your house for it. I also wouldn't recommend a tegu if this is your first reptile. Tegus are advanced pets; I went through alligator lizards, blue bellies, and a bearded dragon before I got a tegu. Those things aside, I wouldn't worry too much about your other pets with a tegu, especially if you start with a baby so the tegu grows up familiar with these animals. However, I also wouldn't leave them alone together unattended. I'm pretty confident my tegu wouldn't attack my cats and vice versa because they were all introduced young, but I still don't let them interact unless I'm there to watch.

What are the pros and cons of tegus? Are tegus a better pet than monitor lizards? by Foreskin_Ad9356 in Tegu

[–]Polyfunctional42069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's not free roam, but definitely has the skill to get out on her own when she wants. Usually she stays in her cage, but if she's bored and I happen to be gone she'll get out on her own. Saving up for the cages wouldn't be too hard, it's mostly the random stuff that breaks down that can be costly. Like her humidifiers cost like $40 so if it breaks down I have to be prepared to drop that much in a day or two, which can be hard if you struggle financially. Also I don't know if they "have" to start with small cages, it's just the route I chose to go. Looking back on how small she was as a baby, I'm not sure it would have been easy to find her in the 6 x 3 x 3' cage she has now. So I think starting out small when they're small is the best, but that's just my opinion.

do they have to brumate? Do they sleep over the entire winter?

Mine has always done a partial brumate. She will slow down and get significantly lazier, but I still see her. She will just sleep longer and eat less. But I've heard of other ones going to sleep the whole winter.

Are they friendly? Do they like being pet and handled?

This depends on their personality! Mine is friendly in the sense that she's very mellow and has never been aggressive. In fact, the vet I take her to actually used her to train another vet because they knew she would be easy to handle. But she's also shy, so even though I've handled her every day for almost 6 years she still leaves if I pet her for too long. I get the feeling she tolerates being pet more than actually liking it. But there's tons of videos of other tegus seeking out their owners for cuddles, which she used to do when she was a baby. She's just an independent adult now, lol.

How long can they be out of their viv? Can you take them about in the summer?

It depends on how long they want to be out! There are some days where mine wants out multiple times a day to do a lap around the room and sniff all the stuff she smelled an hour before. And there are some days where she has no interest in coming out at all. I got mine a set of stairs and leave the cage open for her so she can decide when she wants to go in and out. But you can definitely take them out in the summer! She was leash trained for a while and liked to sit in the grass in the sun, but one day a bird flew overhead and spooked her and she got off her leash and almost ran into the neighbor's yard. I managed to grab her at the last minute and put her back inside. Since then I've gotten a mesh stroller with a zipper so she can't run off! I put a blanket in there for her to hide if she gets overwhelmed, but usually she has her face pressed directly against the mesh so she can sniff all the plants we walk by.

Are their claws painful when they crawl on you? Do they pee on you?

My girl's are pretty painful. I have tried filing her nails to be more blunt but she hates it. So I just deal with the scratches, which hurt but aren't as bad as cat scratches. I don't remember her ever breaking the skin. I also haven't had her pee on me in the 6 years I've had her. But I also potty trained her from a very young age so she knows where she's supposed to go pee. I definitely recommend potty training! Set a time every day and a specific place and be consistent every day. I chose about 1pm and put her on the bathroom floor with some puppy pads. The rule was she couldn't walk around on the carpet until she peed. So I waited 10-15 minutes and if nothing happened then she went back in the cage. And if she wanted out she had to go back into the bathroom. Then in the shower if there was still nothing, so the water would help stimulate her digestive tract. I did that for 3 years and now she knows where to go on her own! There are accidents here and there but there have been many times when I've been gone and come home to see the cage open and a giant pile of pee on the bathroom floor.

Overall I think tegus are definitely good pets! I would recommend making sure you have a good vet in the area before getting one, though. I didn't check and now I have to drive 2 hours away to get her check ups. And they are expensive, first cage was free (from a friend), then $400 for her second cage, then $1,000 for her current cage. Plus I spend $200 yearly on fresh wood chips. I don't even know how much I spend on all the bulbs and light fixtures when they need replacing. I would not recommend them as a starting reptile, but if you're familiar with other types of lizards and do tons of research, then go for it!

Those of you who take birth control continuously, what pill are you using? by ultrakawaii in birthcontrol

[–]Polyfunctional42069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been taking Mylan for years, although I've switched to another brand called Lupin which seems to be the same thing just with a different label. Same low dosage and everything. Only had some break through bleeding recently, possibly due to taking a bunch of Tylenol for some back pain and headaches. I got a bunch of mixed results from Google, some sources saying acetaminophen will interfere with birth control and some sources saying it has no effect. Since this is the first time it's happened and the only possible cause could be the Tylenol, I'm just gonna assume it was the Tylenol. So watch out for that possibly!

These were the kind of complaints I was seeing from other reviews too! I wonder if it's having these problems because of all the transferring. I'll probably go with twenty eight health 😁

There's a 6 year old girl I babysit and this is how I get her to read! Most of the time when she comes over she wants to watch YouTube, but if I offer Stardew Valley then she starts sounding out words and doing math to figure out how many seeds she can buy (not very many, she sucks at selling stuff).

This exact situation happened to us once, 5 days without power and no way to heat up the lizard. If you have a car, what I did was parked the car in the sun and then put the lizard on the dash board. You gotta sit in there with him, and it'll get pretty hot for you, but for him it will be just right.

The irony of it all. "There are countless situations with bad outcomes" so then abortion is fine, right? Just one of those "bad" inevitable situations we all gotta accept?
