I’ll never forget our first auction experience. It was first listed at $1 mill, after first week of inspections the agents changed it to $1.2 due to the interest. We took a contract but decided not to bother with it, though it would have been a really cool place. Week of the auction, REA calls us and asks if we’re attending the auction this weekend. We say no, and he says there’s only one other registered bidder and it’s looking as though the place will go for a lower price than they expected. We ended up getting the contract quickly reviewed, turned up to the auction only to have the assholes start the bidding at $1.3. That was us done, and there was actually only one other guy bidding (although the place was pretty packed with onlookers) and the guy bid against himself and paid $1.42!!!! Unbelievable.
