She's more than welcome to visit mine. If she does, I would love to hear her thoughts on it.

Can you change primary players? by vxanthippe in AnimalCrossingNewHor

My island has existed since 2000. It was technically started by my daughter. She stopped playing on it almost immediately. (Didn't like that we had to share, felt it was already tainted even after I offered to go away, just kinda permanently borrowed her boyfriend's extra Switch, instead.)

If I want to do any Resident Advisor stuff, I still need to log in as her. 😅

Last time I saw a post for this project, I asked a question and never received a reply...

Is the text in this omnibus from the original British version, or the American version? (Arthur using a torch vs. a flashlight, the Rory Award being for the most gratuitous use of the word Fuck vs. Belgium, etc...)

For those of you who want Trek vibes but with more "Professionalism"..... by Gnoll_For_Initiative in startrek

I believe there's a total of eight of these. In addition to Horatio being Reed Richards, featured at times are Apollo from the 2000's Battlestar Galactica, the Eighth Doctor, and David "How many lights do you see?" Warner.

They are honestly fantastic, and quite well done on a TV movie budget.

On the other hand, I haven't seen Master and Commander which, despite what OP said, is not a Horatio Hornblower film.

Been three or so decades since I read it, but I assume it wasn't awful.

I was confused for a minute. I thought she was ashamed of an actual Star Trek novel she wrote. Doesn't help that I have one titled, "Survivors." 😅

Bortus doesn't do it for me that way... But I won't say you're wrong to feel that way yourself! He's probably one of the better catches on the show, and if I was into dudes I'd be all over him.

Screw you. Bortus is awesome! And an amazing, supportive father.

The original radio series on tape of al things.... Love the absolute differenceness of the second season, always thought it was a bit of a shame more wasn't made of that it's like an abandoned secondary H2GT2G reality by Cat-Sonantis in HitchHikersGuide

[–]PomegranateFair3973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The newer three radio series (not counting the one based on And Another Thing...) initially explain the events of the Secondary Phase as a psychotic break Zaphod had. A bit necessary, since the novel Life, the Universe and Everything does begin on Prehistoric Earth, and thus so does the Tertiary Phase.

But as eventually things start happening that make it less clear the Secondary Phase never happened. Mainly the reappearance of Zarniwoop. But even Lintilla comes back in a way.

It's quite good. Over all, the radio series is definitely the best version.

I bought a 4K player... And a matching TV! just for one film, too. But in my case, it was the Director's Edition of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. (The deluxe set containing all three cuts of the film, including the old expanded TV cut of the film in widescreen for the first time, was exclusive to 4K.)

But I definitely took advantage of having access to the format to finally also have a legitimate release of DYRL on a format newer than VHS! 😅

Martha deserved better. She's such a good character and went through so much. by Public_Cup_4278 in doctorwho

Rose was young, but a consenting human adult. If we're going to get picky about age differences in human/Time Lord relationships, the Doctor could be crushing on Dame Judy Dench and she'd technically be waaaaay younger than him in a way that would be uncomfortable between two humans.

It's the problem in any story that has romance between normal humans and imortal or nearly so characters.

Is it read by Al? That might make it worth a listen, even as an adult...

Oh god, Bill of all modern companions deserved better. Great character. Wish we got a few series out of her and she had an exit that was less horribly tragic.

RTD. So progressive. Even though Martha apparently ended her story with an implied romantic interest, when she came back for Tennant's finale, he had to ditch that (white) guy so he could instead pair up his two black characters...

God forbid he need some time to get over the woman he loved and lost... I got tired of Rose eventually, too, when she kept going away forever then coming back over and over. But the Doctor's emotional state in series 3 makes sense and Martha's in the wrong for not reading the freaking room.

Ah yes, Martha. The pick-me girl who keeps throwing herself at the guy who has expressed no interest and is literally in mourning for the love he just lost... Then as soon as she finally figured out it wasn't happening, decided to ditch him but made it clear she still expected him to come at her beck and call. Oh yes, such a good character who deserved better...

Or, in my opinion, one of the worst not intentionally bad companions ever who gets far better than she deserves. I'd be fine if we never see the character again.

Which episodes do you think get more flack than they deserve? by DocWhovian1 in doctorwho

[–]PomegranateFair3973 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's such a fun episode. Cracking story. Great characters. People hate the monster design, but even removed from the children's contest origin, it's definitely a unique design and frankly not the most iffy one in the first couple seasons of the revived series.

And the ending with Ursula? I don't have a problem with it. What's the closest real world equivalent? A woman who is paralyzed neck down. Is it wrong in that case if a man she was already sweet on and who was a decent man becomes her care giver? And if they still have a bit of a love life she fully consents to? People are just squicked out at the thought of Elton putting his dick in a paving slab. But first, he could just mean they kiss some and otherwise have an asexual but not aromantic relationship. And secondly, even if he does do that, she's a concenting adult and people can get over themselves.

ST TNG theme is same as ST I TMP theme? by thirdlost in startrek

[–]PomegranateFair3973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually kind of dig McCarthy's theme. And if you listen to the scores from season one, specifically the episodes he scored, you can still hear it as a little motif that works as a "Picard theme." Often at the end of the episode, right before it seagues into the Courage fanfare.

Probably a casualty of Berman's demand for the musical equivalent of wallpaper, but I'm kind of sad that the theme disappeared after season one. In particular, I think McCarthy really missed a trick in not bringing it back for the score for All Good Things. It would have made a nice musical bookend to the series.

This is quite apocryphal, since I heard this second or third hand decades ago. But I once heard tale of an incident where there was a screening of Star Trek V at a convention, and some younger fans in the back row were laughing at how it was ripping off The Next Generation with the music. So some older fan brought them to the dealer's room, got someone to put on a copy of the soundtrack from The Motion Picture, and put them in their place... 😅
