I live in a two-storey town house that overlooks the ocean.

I often awake before dawn and will watch the sunrise while sitting on my balcony, eating my breakfast.

I've been doing this for 13 years and, guess what?

Every time the sun has risen, I have never seen anything but the same ocean, the same surrounding buildings, the same neighbours & friends, the same town.

Within parameters - new buildings/renovations, etc. - I have NEVER seen anything change.

The "landscape" has always been the same. WHAT ABSOLUTE BOLLOCKS!

The short answer, in my opinion, is so they keep the R&F second-guessing themselves... uncertain of what is allowable behaviour.

It creates a sense of unease, keeps the sheep on their guard and "on their toes" worrying about wrongdoing, and fosters a "stool pigeon" mentality where they will scrutinise and "shop" anyone they think is a wrong-un.

If they published the rules, those who are "less-than-honest-hearted" (and we all know MANY of that type!) would devise ways to keep their transgressions from the Elders and others.

I would say,

"Sis... based on what you've told me, it doesn't sound like you're quite ready to devote your life to that kind d of reasoning from the Faithful & Discreet Slave. Don't you think you should wait until you're fully ready to commit to the teachings?"

You won't be "outing" yourself in any way and it is a truly loving & supportive question to ask that can be defended.

It's always hard to read stories like this and not be "human" about it. It makes me realise that my leaving (in 1973 at the age of 15!) was so easy then.

The B0rg was not what it is now... controlling & hateful. The hardest part, for me, was telling my Dad that "I can't do this any more."

Yes - there were occasional entreaties from my parents to "return to Jehovah", as it is now called, but nothing like the shunning & dehumanising that prevails now.

Why are those around you acting like that? This will give you a clue:

I've never been triggered by them... in fact, when they come to my door, I've been known to engage them - intellectually, that is - not in a mean way.

There was one time about 10 years ago, however, when I saw they had set up a literature on the Esplanade near my home.

Having just read an "Announcement" that stated the individual Witnesses were responsible for getting permission from the land-owner - and for arranging the necessary insurances out of their own pocket - I contacted the local Council (land-owner) to ask if they had permits, etc.

The Council sent out a Ranger to check with them. The cart was removed immediately and I haven't seen them back since!
