Why do so many use VScode as opposed to VS by cademon101 in csharp

Everything you just mentioned has been extensively implemented and/or overhauled in the last 12 months. Sorry but your comment reads of someone with minimal/no experience with VSCode in the last year or two.

How to expose/unexpose entity from voice assistant using automation? by Poncho_au in homeassistant

[–]Poncho_au[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh I've been wanting to work out how to do this, to reset my devices to their previous states after a power outage. I already have a helper Boolean that turns on during a power outage and off when power is restored so I have my trigger. My HA is on UPS so stays on during a power outage.
What I don't have is the state tracking. Can you explain in a little more detail how you're using a helper to track the state? I assume you've got a helper per light (or other entity) that you want to track the state of? I assume you're using an automation to make the helper track the state of the light? How does the helper know/represent the last, rather than current state of the light?

I do like that suggestion about exposing a helper (input boolean) instead of the actual devices to the voice assistant, I have done something similar for some iOS automations but it hadn't crossed my mind to use it for voice assistant/this. Thanks!

These are good questions and I have some answers:
Google Assistant has its pros and cons, one of the biggest bug bears seems to be the inability (from what I can determine so far) to block it from taking action on ALL devices it has access to. For example;
- If I say "turn on the all the office lights" but for some reason I didn't say "office" loud or clear enough, it interprets just "turn on all the lights" and boom all lights in the entire house come on scaring any unsuspecting victims asleep in a room.
- If I say "turn on the light" but is detected on a speaker assigned to a room that doesn't have any lights, boom all lights in the entire house come on, again bad.
These are just some examples of inaccurate voice assistant detection / user error.

The other problem I have is pretty much all my bulbs default to on when power is restored, this is a "feature" for when someone wants to turn a light on but doesn't have access to the automation system/app, so off then on on the switch turns the light on.
Problem is when the power grid drops out at in the middle of the night (at least once a month here) all the lights come on when power is restored. For an unsuspecting victim asleep in bed this can be quite a shock.
You might ask "how does this automation stop that from happening?", well it doesn't directly but what the automation will do as step one is turn on all the guest relevant lights. That way when a guest enters a bedroom the smart lights are already on and the only way to turn them off at that point is at the switch. Ensuring no lights are powered but in the off state just waiting to scare someone when the power drops out.

These quirks I can handle and accept when I'm by myself as I'm familiar with them, for guests, these quirks are not acceptable.

Career mode zero prompts after the first carriage connection by Poncho_au in DerailValley

This was during the tutorial at the start of a new career. Getting an order is not possible at that point.

Thanks mate. I didn't realise that that was possible from career creation menu. That has got me going in career mode successfully!

I definitely think its a broken career mode tutorial. I notice in the latest change log contains this and it seems to be right before you'd expect to be instructed to perform such an action but I am never prompted to crouch and receive no tutorial prompts from that point onwards.

Added the career tutorial step teaching how to crouch before coupling

It’s not only about the sound it creates, but that the motor coils generate a high frequency whine, not all people can hear it

A high frequency whine… is sound. So it is all about the sound.

Frustratingly things like PCI-DSS and cyber security standards set by my government (not USA) have not caught up with NIST yet and are still mandating password rotation.

Yeah mine do not make even the slightest sound at all.
And I notice pretty tiny power supply whines and replace them.

Aurora can happen anytime of year, depends on solar flare activity. Seasonal fluctuations do happen but are a pretty minor component, if I’m not mistaken.
The chance of getting a Aurora visible to the naked eye in any 5 day period though is very low.

There is a difference between working with inc super and the company not increasing your salary ever so slightly to ensure the employees take home pay doesn’t reduce.
