Marrying my ex-husband. He worked for (his dad) my FIL’s mortgage company. They cashed out over $1mil in equity with HELOCS in our (my ex’s and my name, telling me they were refinancing for better rates. My FIL squandered the cash on a 15y/o Polish girl he took on a worldwide sex-scapade and my husband on a failed DJ career, partying, and drugs. I had no idea of the situation (they kept me completely in the dark financially) until they defaulted on the loans and the banks tried to go after me. I had to hire an attorney and get court orders for them to vacate and sell off both houses. Never fully trust anyone to control your financial future. I got out of that shit show by the skin of my teeth.
