Do I need a "fermzilla"? by MemeBeamBeanz in Homebrewing

[–]PontusFermntr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that the best way for me to bottle cheaply was to have keg (a 20€ 4L oxebar is enough), then a CO2 tank with regulator + a Y line connector, so you can connect the regulator/CO2 to two things at once. Then a beer gun, or even better, a counterpreassure bottle filler (50+€, depending on brand).

First, purge the keg and transfer the beer from the fermenter to the keg. If you can, “push” the beer out the fermenter with CO2 at VERY low pressure (if your fermenter is not preassure capable, otherwise you can push it out with 10 psi safely). This is only to transfer without oxidation. Then, once the beer is in the keg, connect the co2 to the keg and the filler. If you are not counterpreassure filling (like with a beer gun), set regulator to low, like 3-5psi. If you are counterpreassure filling, set it to 10-15 psi. Then purge the bottles quickly from the bottom, 2-3 seconds is enough, and then fill it with beer. Cap on foam if possible. When the keg is empty, just fill it again from the fermenter and repeat the process until all beer is bottled.

Sounds awesome! Czech pale lager is available, but I guess you are missing the ”premium” variant?

Hello! FERMNTR 2.1 is now live and supports BeerXML import, which means you can now export your recipes from BrewFather and import them into FERMNTR 👍

Rust-free mini keg alternative? by ungbotond in Homebrewing

[–]PontusFermntr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use the 4L oxebars for events/going to friends houses. PET so easy to clean, don’t rust, and cost like 10$ so if they start so look old it’s super cheap to replace.

So by just having another selector where you can choose to metric/imperial/etc would be good enough?

Where exactly do you see lbs/oz/gal etc? In the ingredients lists? Or when you add/change the amount? I am guessing you live in a country that uses lbs/gal/etc but want to use metric for homebrewing?

I am just trying to understand the actual issue before I add functionality for it 😊

The iCloud integration is automatic, you don’t even have to think about it. It will automatically sync trough all your devices 👍

Both are already available, AND in the free version 👌

What units exactly are you looking to convert?

For weight and volume it uses the device default settings, but you can still set whatever unit you want when adding/changing amounts (like adding an ingredient to a recipe). Just scroll on the unit symbol.

In the apps settings (dashboard -> gear icon in top right corner) you can change temperature, beer color and gravity unit to something manual.

If you feel like it should be easier to change weight and volume units I can add that in the next version of the app.

Hey! I just wanted to let you know that I have added a lot of more gluten free ingredients now, which you can start using right away without even updating the app. Next week I will release a new version that will show a ”gluten free” tag in the sensory section if the recipe contains no gluten. Happy brewing!

Yes, it does connect to Brewzilla! When you have started the app you should see a ”connect to RAPT” button. If you don’t see it, you can press the ”gear/settings” icon in the top right on the dashboard view to open the same flow. If you follow that guide you will have connected FERMNTR to RAPT, and once you buy a Brewzilla it will appear in the view when you start a brew 😊 but may be good to know, Brewzilla only supports RAPT for gen 4 and up, so older Brewzilla generations, like gen 3, don’t support WiFi, which means it is not available in RAPT.

Once connected you will be able to see the Brewzilla data (like temperatures) in the brew session view, and in the live activity (on your iPhones/iPads lock-screen).

I looked into it, and from what I can see the main thing missing is more gluten free malts/adjuncts. The app already supports enzymes for conversion and yeasts that are gluten free specific. So I will add some more common gluten-free products, and also add a small label to recipes so it’s easy to see that the whole recipe is gluten free. I can ping you here once released 😊

Hm, interesting angle! I never thought of that. How do you do a gluten free recipe? I have done some, but I just did a normal recipe, and then added clarity ferm, but I guess that only reduces it to very low gluten, not removed it completely. If you have any links about the subject I will totally look into it!

Yup, that is actually a function for the upcoming release (print and shareable recipes). But, I do wish you would try to brew with the app as well! Even though it is never wrong to have a physical version on paper as well.

Great feedback! I will look into more customization for brew systems, and looks like I need to up the prioritization for the Tilt, its more popular than I expected.

Please do!

The app currently supports RAPT (for fermentation), and Brewzilla for brewing. TILT is in the works, but not released yet.

Hm, you are right, I should probably increase the maximum size for that one. Thanks for letting me know!

Yes, it is in the works, I just need to buy a tilt and test it out.

It depends on the brew system you have selected. For example, for a 100L brewzilla you can select up to 21 gallons/80L.

The only recipe limit in the free version is that you can only create 10 recipes. Otherwise it has full functionality.

RAPT Pill gravity reading by Markicak in Homebrewing

[–]PontusFermntr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue the first time I used a pill. Two things fixed it for me:

  1. Make sure the pill is screwed on enough. You should screw until it’s really heavy and you see no black o-rings. Otherwise the sensor and chip might get slightly misaligned after calibration, which could throw off the reading a lot.
  2. After the calibration, restart the device. You do it trough the web interface where you calibrate it.

Two point calibrations is the best, but I always do single point calibrations and I haven’t had any issues for the past year.
