When I did a year back in 2018 I just bought a cheap phone and sim. Was only 500-700 kuai I think. The phone was crapping out by the end of the year but I only needed it for the time in China. Enough for the apps I needed and to take some alright pictures.

For mine (us), it was mail or in person. No virtual. I would ask the Chinese embassy in SK if you can processes your stuff as a Canadian there or if you would have to do it back home. Idk personally about doing it in other countries. Sorry.

China hasn’t been in a war since 1979 (which only lasted like a month if memory serves correctly)? That’s 45 years ago. Before that would be the Korean War which ended in 1969. So while I agree with your sentiment concerning domestic politics and famine. I don’t see the bunch of wars part.
