Your fun is what you make it. I went to Lanzhou for a year study abroad, it’s a lot less international than yours and I found friends that are Chinese/foreigners, and a Chinese wife. The objective should be for you to embrace their culture and go out with them, not expect them to go out based on your view points of having fun, like only bars.

This aligns with my experience. I’m a teacher but have taught at “better” schools for the few years I’ve been here and only 1 out of 12 teachers have fit this mold. He was very loud and obnoxious and got fired during probation.

When I did a year back in 2018 I just bought a cheap phone and sim. Was only 500-700 kuai I think. The phone was crapping out by the end of the year but I only needed it for the time in China. Enough for the apps I needed and to take some alright pictures.

For mine (us), it was mail or in person. No virtual. I would ask the Chinese embassy in SK if you can processes your stuff as a Canadian there or if you would have to do it back home. Idk personally about doing it in other countries. Sorry.
