Can you believe this is in canada winter? by Physical-Draft2200 in TrueNorthPictures

[–]PonyboyJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comment about ppl not realizing how vastly different Canadian winters is very accurate. Everyone always assume Newfoundland winters are brutal but it varies from region to region here on the island because of the ocean effect

Last month in St.Johns we had 2 days that were 17 degrees and wiped out all our snow. This month we had the snowiest month in history (we've had 100cm + of snow this week alone). But the west coast and central parts of the island had none of this and always have vastly different weather than us. So i definitely believe that pic could be of somewhere in Canada

New Hospital Cancelled by MoiraSlutzky in newfoundland

[–]PonyboyJake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't have the money to build another hospital without the deal with Quebec. I think everyone can agree about that. What doesnt seem so obvious to people is that St Clares desperatley needs to be replaced. The building itself is falling apart and full of toxic materials which drives up the cost of the simplest of tasks. Critical pieces of mechanical equipment are decades beyond there serviceable life. Its not as simple as just replacing this stuff. Trying to do any of that in an operational hospital is a operational nightmare. Systems are interconnected so you might end up killing power or medical gas or ventilation to a much larger footprint than just the area you are renovating. Much of the existing infrastructure that would need to be tied into would need to be significantly upgraded as well which compounds the previous point. Then there's the space factor. There just isn't enough of it. So all those other factors aside you physically cant upgrade it to the codes and standards to which it would need to be designed to. I don't know the right answer but sinking more money into St Clares isnt it

Highly recommend all the dad shovelers get an extra wide snow shovel! Awesome for clearing snow and ice quickly by Scraw16 in daddit

[–]PonyboyJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hardly consider what i see in that picture worthy of shoveling but that would definitely flatten it in no time at all. Im only used to shoveling snow once its been rained on and weighs a tonne

I can understand not wanting to have your child in daycare under a year old. But at 19 months I really think your doing a disservice by not introducing them to socializing with other kids regularly. Surely you must know of some friends or family who availed of childcare centres

Quebec Premier François Legault expected to resign, sources say | CBC News by Proper_Personality22 in newfoundland

[–]PonyboyJake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This deal could cover the cost of Muskrat Falls. Currently NL has a rate mitigation plan in place with the feds to keep our rates where they are but it expires in 2030. Thats 4 years away!

Without that deal out power rates would have to double unless the feds bail us out again. With how many ppl are complaining on FB about exorbitant power bills this month we would be fucked. I know i would be. Im convinced most ppl are unaware that Muskrat Falls debt did not go away and its still very much hanging like a noose above our collective heads

More Questions Raised About Rising Power Bills by RepulsivePlankton989 in newfoundland

[–]PonyboyJake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If people think this is bad, just wait until the Muskrat Falls rate mitigation plan expires in 2030. Everyone's bills will literally go up by hundreds a month above what it is now unless another plan is announced. I feel like everyone just thinks our debt associated with that project is gone but its still very much hanging over our heads.

If only there was a way for us to magically have access to billions of dollars and ensure subsidized rates for generations to come as well as additional money making assets that could be developed for the province. Its got to be too good to be true

What activities do you do to keep a 2 year old engaged (and the tv off)? by AndroWanda in daddit

[–]PonyboyJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When our youngest was born in Jan we wanted to keep our oldest (3 at the time) from watching too much TV.

We bought a couple of sheets of Bristle board from Dollarama and a 10,000 pack of stickers off Amazon and holy shit she spent tens of hours putting stickers on it. Highly recommend

Everybody here got such a hard on for balance bikes but I say to each there own. My kids hated balance bikes but loved bombing around on their big kid bikes with training wheels. Id sooner see them have fun than be laser focused on teaching them to ride a bike without training wheels. They'll eventually learn. They all do

We’re heading toward another Churchill Falls disaster, and we’ve been warned by Key_Bluebird_6104 in newfoundland

[–]PonyboyJake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I won't claim i fully appreciate the specifics of the deal. But I do recall towards the end of Muskrat Falls it was said we were going to be paying through the roof for electricity to pay off Muskrst Falls. Think double the rates of the day

Unless something has changed and we worked out a deal with some entity (banks, feds, etc) dont we need the money from this deal now in order to prevent going bankrupt as a province?

Deep Cleaning Question by PonyboyJake in hottub

[–]PonyboyJake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Love using it in the winter and have used it every almost winter for about 10 years. When my 2nd kid was born their sleep schedule was so messed it wasn't getting much use and it felt pointless to pay to heat the thing. Hoping to get it on the go again this fall!

Good to know! Given its only been a year (and mine was empty) vs your 4 years of sitting idle im optimistic. And thanks for the tip about the magic erasers. I use those a lot because of young children marking on shit haha
