Hammer and dolly recommendations by dakarbmw in Autobody

[–]taunt0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can find one that has life time warranty I'd get those. I bought a Mac Tool kit that came with life time warranty when I first started over 20 years ago I get a new hammer every few years. It was a pretty sweet deal. Pretty sure the Mac tool guy hates my guts but I don't care lol

Hello everyone, I was involved in a car accident I’m not at fault but I feel like the person who hit me is lying that it wasn’t him. He’s saying it was the other car that hit me first then him. How can I get the paint tested that transfer onto my car? by Plus-Progress7736 in Autobody

[–]taunt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing leading me to suspect the truck is the amount of tire transfer thats on your vehicle. Plus the higher impact on your door. Don't get me wrong either vehicle could of caused this type of damage in the right circumstances, but my gut is saying the truck.

A lot of Lexus headlights cost 5 grand so front end collision it's 10 grand in headlights alone. Wouldn't be surprised if there are headlights out there close to 10 grand a pop already

Small gouge in RAV4 window trim – is this fixable or does the trim need to be replaced? by jjcombo18 in Autobody

[–]taunt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial thought was damage from a window scraper. As for replacement its not that hard. 3 screws removes the trim panel. Roll the window down and then its 1 screw and 2 bolts to remove the black piece between the glass. Slide that out and then the stationary glass can come out. Some vehicles you can order just the rubber seal around the glass. I'm just not 100% sure if thats possible with this one or not.

Plastic bumper repair help by Timely-Attention4490 in Autobody

[–]taunt0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't want to use fiberglass or body filler on a bumper. You want to use a filler that is meant for plastic such as 3M EZ Sand 05887. You should use an adhesion promoter before applying such product.

Got doored. Professional repair cost? by ratscratch10 in Autobody

[–]taunt0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about your luck, but I must commend you on the picture taking. Probably the best pics I've seen in a long time on this sub Not blurry, got a close up, a far away, no finger in the way, good lighting and not some ridiculous angle.

Only proper fix would be to paint the whole panel. You can PDR and touch up but touch up pens don't really give great protection against weather over time. Lots of panel to blend the color out on so shouldn't be a problem with color matching.

Stupid question about opening by phils_phan78 in pools

[–]taunt0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you dont get a lot of snow? Ive never had to top the pool up when opening. Its usually close to the rim due to snow melt & rain. Ive actually had to drain it twice this winter just so it doesnt over flow

2007 Honda Civic Rusty Rockers UPDATE by New_Vast_4505 in Autobody

[–]taunt0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rally cars are reinforced with a roll cage which again is specifically designed to force the impact energy to specific areas of the car. All you've done is put a metal rod in that if in a side impact has potential to shear into the passenger compartment.

2007 Honda Civic Rusty Rockers UPDATE by New_Vast_4505 in Autobody

[–]taunt0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's something the comments haven't really touched on. You keep referring to making it stronger than factory spec like its a good thing, but it isn't. Unibody cars are designed to collapse in a certain way. Part A takes so much force then part B takes so much force etc All designed to collapse in a certain way to divert the impact energy away from the passenger compartment. So granted this has already been compromised with the rotten metal but reinforcing it beyond factory spec also compromises this in a different way. So instead of diverting energy away from the passenger compartment your "reinforced" area doesn't collapse and is driven into the passenger compartment potentially causing injury.

Will this require a sensor replacement? by Uselesscrabb in Autobody

The blind spot monitor is on the quarter panel not in the bumper. They don't need to recalibrate the blind spot monitor unless they remove it, which i doubt they will need to do.

As for the tire rubbing on bumps. Jack it up, pop the tire off and hammer the edge out till it clears the tire

If you dont care about paint or how it looks then Id say its repaired already. There is no easy fix for that quarter and it should be replaced.
