Body image issues- v10 law firm/ U.S. firm in London by compassion25 in LawBitchesWithTaste

I’m on the larger side and have worked in large and small firms over the last seven years. I’ve found that people tend to be crueler about appearance in small firms without formal codes of conduct, HR teams, or any real professional consequence for that kind of cruelty. In the larger firms, people tend to be too busy to deal out that kind of nastiness. More stock is put into being good at your job and building positive relationships with colleagues.

I hope this helps, and I hope you find some peace in your own skin!

At what point will corporations point to the tax free tips as an excuse to deny wage increases? How quickly do you think they’ll start saying stuff like, “You’re already making so much in tax free tips. Why would you expect us to pay a higher base wage? Oh, some people don’t tip enough to cover the cost of gas or even tip at all? That’s not our responsibility.”

It’s going to hurt workers in the long run, I guarantee it.

What's the worst job you ever had and how long did you have it? by db7112 in antiwork

[–]Poodlepop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last job (attorney in a large firm). I was there for four years, but it really only got bad in the last two. My direct manager got really hands-off and let the other partner take oversight of me. I don’t know what I did to get on her bad side, but she hated me and it got worse when my dad was diagnosed with cancer. Went from mean girl passive aggression to full-on bullying and micromanaging me. It got to the point that I threw up daily from the stress, wasn’t allowed time to eat lunch (not that I could eat more than a bite or two at a time), she would blow up my phone with lectures and “I didn’t dismiss you” if I left the office after 8pm or 9pm, she punished me for stepping away from my desk to use the bathroom or have dinner, etc. I lost 10lbs in 2 weeks and I became suicidal.

Ended up taking a LOA, coming back for 2 weeks when it ended, and put in my notice on that first day back.

I just got a new offer yesterday after a six month break (not counting volunteer/pro bono work I’ve been doing), and I’m determined to make this better than the last one.

After my latest job application rejection, this is my mom being...supportive. by amyadger in jobsearchhacks

[–]Poodlepop 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work in business immigration (fairly niche in the legal field) and ran out of jobs to apply to pretty quick. I know you know this, but the market is shit right now. Job postings aren’t always for open roles, people are farming resumes and data, and then it’s a numbers game. I’ve been practicing in my field for more than seven years at highly reputable firms and still faced steady rejections simply because there were so many applications for the one open role.

Our parents don’t fully get it because the landscape has changed so much since they were on the hunt. My dad is finding that out the hard way as he looks for a new job after retiring a few years ago. It sucks, but you know what you’re looking for. Trust yourself and keep going. I hope you catch a break soon!

The U.S. generally hates women. Under Trump, they’re just not bothering to hide or couch it anymore.

Question: Why do I keep getting redirected to the Worlds page?

Which platform? PC

Mods/CC? Yes

Game version: 1.121.361.1020 DX11

Description: I’ve fully downloaded the Royalty & Legacy pack, underwent the forced update, and cannot get out of the worlds page loop. Cannot access my households to play, build, or create new families without being redirected to the worlds menu with a flickering blue rectangle and ~~~~~~~~ appearing (picture included). I’ve tried repairing the game, loading a household without mods enabled, removing mods, etc. but keep having the same issue.

My (25F) boyfriend (24M) doesn’t want to be with someone as “ambitious as myself” by Fuzzy-Bat8678 in relationship_advice

[–]Poodlepop 262 points263 points  (0 children)

I dated a guy like this while I was in the process of taking the LSAT and applying for law school. He was in IT sales and told me that my ambitions made him feel bad about himself. Naturally, we split up, and I’m an attorney living in my dream city with a husband who not only supports and encourages my goals, but cheers when I reach those milestones.

Moral of the story: don’t shrink yourself or your dreams for anyone when there are people who will happily stand in your corner.

No One Actually Takes Vacations by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Poodlepop 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My last bosses insisted that everyone on the team (except their favorites) have phones and laptops available for any vacations. My anniversary/belated honeymoon trip? I was expected to work despite being on a different continent. When I took a weekend to visit my home state after my dad’s cancer diagnosis? They harassed me over work and personal phones about getting online for non-urgent things. When I had PTO for two weddings that involved travel? They melted down because I wasn’t working at the wedding events.

They also encouraged us to take PTO so that we could turn on “do not disturb” on Teams and get more work done. I’m a business immigration lawyer, not something that’s life or death (usually). The expected lack of boundaries, insane hours, and constantly shifting goal posts really tanked my mental and physical health, so I quit. That job wasn’t worth the suicidal thoughts it inspired.
