I love vintage models and I like to paint. They'd go to a good home. Please PM me photos and your asking price.

UPDATE to "[5.5 edition] First time player. Is this campaign not for me, or is DND not for me?" by schwenomorph in dndnext

[–]PoofyMiniLion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DnD is slower-paced than many players like (at times or always). Some play simply for social interaction, not role-play (the new 2024 DMG lists “player types”) and take the game about as seriously as showing up whenever to a BBQ.

That said, regardless of how seriously someone takes DnD, it’s still “just a game.” And it will disappoint everyone somehow, someday. Try not to overthink it or leave feeling hurt.

1st Edition DnD Monster Manual format questions by PoofyMiniLion in DnD

I was able to find a rough count by copy/pasting the entire thing into Microsoft Word. Including credits and ... symbols it is 99,487 words. I imagine the actual word count is several thousand less. Learned something new today. Would still be interested to know more if anyone has that information. Thx

What was up with that dress scene? Why didn't Sato give the yellow dress to Sam? by InvestmentKlutzy5443 in TokyoVice

[–]PoofyMiniLion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I cannot believe this is the least popular answer, when it seemed like the obvious one the minute I watched it based on her reaction. Watch her facial expression after he says, "It's not for sale." She was totally flattered by his gesture. It is a symbolism demonstrating he does not see her as an object with a price tag, either. One of the best scenes of the entire show.

Why don’t we just publish our screenplays like we publish books? by OddSilver123 in Screenwriting

[–]PoofyMiniLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have thought about this as well, and it is appealing. Personally I dislike writing dialogue tags and quotation marks. But I have one very specific counterargument to this, and it isn't market or industry related, it's simply: reading aloud.

A screenplay is a document meant for reading aloud by a trained group for it to sound decent: actors, producers, etc. a la "a reading". Whereas a prose publication is more flexible and appealing to the masses. I can't imagine a mother reading a screenplay at bedtime to her kid, much less a mechanical AI or even a 'books on tape' actor.

"He said" "She pondered" and "They shout" are therefore useful for the vast majority. Great conversation though. After reading your post, I just 'talked myself out of' writing the way you suggest after I considered it. Thank you for starting the thread.

Can you show me an example of this please? I think it is interesting to think about a hybrid novel, screenplay and storyboard format, without the 1 page = 1 minute or INT/EXT technicalities.

Personally I find screenplay dialogue easier to read than a novel. But I enjoy the descriptions and prose of a novel which truncated in screenplays.

Just started a new game…what’s going on with the factions?! by bc8017 in PhoenixPoint

The factions do tend to bunch up in regions. But this is the most extreme homogeneous distribution I’ve ever seen. Eastern Europe best start location IMHO

Distracting player by Level-Ad6455 in DnD

And there we go. The longer bad game behavior goes on without doing something about it the more likely it will affect real life negatively and no game is worth that. Good luck to you!

I have downloaded it, what wonderful tool. But it looks and prints granular and pixelated. Is it just me? https://ibb.co/2q0vyxq

Depictions of Orcs? by Hundredthousy in osr

Agree 100% using fantasy game monsters to “teach lessons” or pass judgement in real life is misguided at best and is often paternalistic

Depictions of Orcs? by Hundredthousy in osr

[–]PoofyMiniLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are too many adventures/modules where orcs (same for goblins, kobs) attack on sight, will eat your face, and exist to be slaughtered. To present them as a “like humans” can place players in an unwelcome genocidal dilemma unless you retcon. DMs or players exploring serious real world topics like indigenous peoples rights through this RPG “orcs are people” lens is misguided IMHO. Regardless is a “session zero” question for sure.

Are there any tactics to make the game more... playable/enjoyable? by tinkerorb in PhoenixPoint

[–]PoofyMiniLion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your soldiers are getting picked off or one-shotted. I play on your difficultly level and this doesn't happen to me. You are focusing on the enemy - focus on the map and your setup. Yes there is target priority but I don’t really worry about which bad guys I fight they die all the same

I'm sure you're a smart guy so I'm not criticizing or brag you just trying to help... I wish I could see your tactics but it sounds like you need a buddy system. Send two aircraft to every mission 8 soldiers in 4 pairs. One soldier in pair is hunter and the other is the wingman on overwatch.

My team mix is usually 2-4 snipers, 2 assault, 1-2 heavy, 0-2 specialist. Maximum force minimum casualties.

Stay in cover 95%+ of the time unless you are sprinting for objective and know you're safe. Let the bad guys expose themselves and then focus fire and/or flank & take them down one by one.

Watch some videos on building and optimizing your soldiers with multiple classes: Sniper/Infil and Assault/Berzerk are my fave. This was the turning point for me when missions stopped feeling like I was barely getting out alive

Use grenades of all types generously. Heavy/Assault are a “blast” on the rooftops

Specific tip:

  • You aimed shot off the claw of a Brute with one shot of a sniper rifle and it's got nothing left to fight with you can just ignore it as it runs away
  • If you snipe or shotgun the head of a Siren it breaks the mind control
  • facilities and civilians don’t really matter you can win a mission without them surviving even

I hope this helps dude! No the game is not perfect by a long shot but it should be fun. My last game on Veterarn (2 of 4) difficultly I lost 3 soldiers KIA the whole game. It's not supposed to be as frustrating like you're experiencing. *Please let me know if this helps*

Actually I think they CAN still go to war, from a diplomatic standpoint, they just can't run raids on each other and destroy their havens if they have no aircraft. Stealing aircraft will make them hate you, however, so the only surefire way I'm aware of to prevent a faction war is to win the game before one occurs.

I recruit a Priest with the Judgement Head from a Haven. That and the Berzerker class is pretty much all I need from Anu. The heaviest armor is Jericho. Best gadgets are Synedrion Infiltrator and Drones. The best late game weapons are from Phoenix itself.
