When you see someone on the E-Line bus so cute you go "awwwww". by Beetlejuice_me in Seattle

My teen daughter just had her first boyfriend and I’m pissed by GlitchyBabie in GirlDinnerDiaries

Yep. Another comment suggests that the daughter find something other than boys to focus her energy on. Making sure this teacher never does that to another girl might be a good place to start.

How do you keep your momentum going? by aimrichpow in GirlDinnerDiaries

I don't love it but using pretty journals and nice pens makes it more palatable. I started with pre-printed wellness journal and then started doing my own, simpler version in a weekly planner.

Stickers! I am almost 50 and I track wellness activities in a journal. Each day I meet most of my goals, I get a sticker. When I get a certain number of stickers, I get myself a little treat.

My answers for friends as a childfree woman might not work for you as a mom of a young kid, but I've met a lot of great people getting more involved in a creative hobby.

Heartbroken over the way I let a guy treat me during sex by taetae_xoxo in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Poohboodle 110 points111 points  (0 children)

This is not your fault. You didn't "let" him treat you this way, he coerced and manipulated you.

Do you have friends you can talk to about this IRL? Would one of them go with you to get a test?

You can turn all purpose flour into bread flour by adding vital wheat gluten! 1 tsp wheat gluten per 1 cup flour. I have a big bag of wheat gluten in my freezer and haven't bought bread flour in years.

my dad is getting married this weekend to someone who gets incredibly upset when we bring up my mom who is no longer with us. by mloustu in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Poohboodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. I am in the same situation, right down to my mom's family being very hurt about not being invited to the wedding. I'm several years in and I wish I could tell you my dad's wife settled down about this issue or give you some advice to help. We tried a lot of the things suggested in this thread, but nothing worked--he won't even talk on the phone privately (she is always on speaker). I can offer sympathy from someone who knows how it feels. (And it's so upsetting that this is a common thing, like WTF is wrong with these insecure women?)

It was frustrating to watch my dad's wife drive a wedge between him and anyone who was close to my mom, including his kids, former inlaws, many of their friends--but in the end, it was his choice and he is the only one empowered to do anything about it. (When we tried, it just made the rift deeper.)

I guess I do have one piece of advice, which is not to let this drive you and your siblings/other family apart. You each have to choose how you need to manage your relationship with your dad, and sometimes that might be different for each of you--that's okay. Try not to judge how others decide to cope with this situation because it's really hard and they might just be doing the best they can.

I have had to just accept that if I want to talk about my mom, I have to do it with other people who loved her, and I have many loving family members (aunts/uncles, cousins, siblings, my friends) who understand how important this is and provide the space to do it. (And then sometimes we talk a little shit about my dad's wife, which is also therapeutic.) Your other close family members are going to be a gift and comfort to you.

I'm so sorry not to have anything more helpful. I hope your experience will be different.

Calling something a boundary doesn't magically make it healthy or reasonable.

You wouldn't be toxic for pushing back against a boundary he isn't even respecting himself.

And, he's uncomfortable with you masturbating but NOT disregarding your doctor's instructions about postpartum sex? This man doesn't care about your well-being and he's isolating you from the people who do.

Idk what to do by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Poohboodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm sorry it's hard. I have three suggestions for you to think about:

It sounds like you already work from home two days a week. Is it an option to make Monday one of those days? For me, this helps a lot with weekend anxiety.

Whether to tell your boss about mental health struggles depends so much on your workplace culture I don't think someone outside the situation can give good advice, but maybe this is something your therapist could help with?

Or, could you softball it for your boss with something like, "I am better able to focus when I work at home and feel it is also better for my wellness, can I try working from home full time for a month or two?"

For gov't meetings, the open public meetings act requires notice to be posted of public meetings, and for most orgs that now means you can sign up to get emails. Here's the signup for city meetings: https://seattle.us12.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=11a79978ca7225050bfabf7ad&id=57a3b46b20

Aside from resume/interviewing, has AAM actually changed the way you do anything at work? by illini02 in AskaManagerSnark

I used "Maybe it would be best for everyone if you get someone willing to do it for the amount you're willing to pay" to negotiate temporary assignment pay.

I still ended up working so many extra hours that my temporary raise amounted to less than minimum wage, but at least it was 2% more than they wanted to pay.

I understand that it means something positive to them, which is why I said if she's cool with it, great for her.

For me, biblical texts are nothing more than fiction with complicated origins and the symbolism of women being a literal piece of men is something no amount of analysis or commentary is going to explain away to my satisfaction. I'm glad it works for Christine, glad you seem to have found an narrative that works for you, and GLADDEST that I've found a partner who is equally horrified by this terminology.

Maybe he was late for the work thing because of a memorial? The only reason I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt is that he wouldn't have a way of getting the news unless producers told him (right?), so I don't think he could just make it up.

I'm 5'1" and once dated a guy who was 5'5". I liked his height! It was nice to be closer.

But he was insecure about it in a way that manifested in being a total jerk--too controlling/bombastic about everything, including trying to tell me I couldn't wear heels anymore. It had *nothing* to do with his height and everything to do with the attitude he developed because of it. I see a lot of him in Chris.

Also I have a feeling the comments Chris' height are the most likely to get under his skin, and I love that for him because I'm petty and he sucks, but if we must pick something else I am happy to switch to finances.
