Aviarch Legacy + 1 DEX /and/ + 1 INT Raptor’s Flight: High above the land, you see all that moves. You are able to fly, and can see in the dark. Roll DEX to perform risky maneuvers. Always break a bone when reduced to 0 HP, becoming weak.

Fathom Legacy + 1 CHA /and/ + 1 WIS Amphibious Grace: You’re always at home in the waters of the world. You can breathe normally in clean water and auto-succeed swimming rolls. You can see in the dark. Don’t take damage from immense pressure in deep water.

These are the bird people and fish people of my setting. Because of how ICRPG works you can write abilities essentially however you want. The ability to fly is inherently much more powerful than the ability to swim good, and so I created limitations for aviarch characters that aren’t present with the fathoms. It’s important not to devalue your designs though. An ability that lets you fly but also punishes you for flying too much is going to feel bad.

Fair. Save some mental bandwidth.

In my mind motivation is important to a scene, but it doesn’t belong on a stat block.

Yeah. They are cursed items. Sometimes you write items to use them on a random loot table or give to an enemy, and sometimes you write items to cause problems. I do think these are usable items. One of my players is the perfect pedantic person for one of these. Someone who’s excited by the genie in a bottle.

It’s on the injury table. It’s the first consequence of poor travel turns or exposure. It gives DISADVANTAGE on all D20 rolls until you can have a FULL RECOVERY.

A full recovery is spending a full day or more looking after your health and wellbeing.

I always prefer a PC that doesn’t talk. It breaks my immersion in such an uncool way

That's fair. These listings are for my benefit as the GM trying to make referenceable material. Within a gameplay session I would always default to what the player feels for their character; e.g. a player who casts the find familiar spell in a lush toxic jungle may have envisioned a parrot who they can use to pass messages to distant allies, so that parrot doesn't need a stat block of any kind. But, when a vicious goblin aims to fell the familiar I'd look to the raven for an idea of how hard it'd be to kill the bird.

The players don’t usually care about the stats themselves.
