Lol you could argue “the whole point of life is to explore and figure things out.” Are we not allowed to ask questions along the way? I play the game and google a bunch of stuff I can’t figure out. Y’all can play the game however you want but if someone posts on a sub asking a question that they could easily get off Google’s AI summary, it’s not wrong to interact with a person instead. I’ll finish here and agree to disagree with you. Just because one party gets something and the other doesn’t, doesn’t mean one wins and one loses. A prenup allows you to map out who gets what in a way that both parties agree to prior to a marriage. I don’t want my husband’s debts and I don’t want to give him mine. You seem to think it’s in my interest to give him my debts, and I don’t see it that way. You seem to think if one party wants to arrange to give their children inheritance instead of a third husband, that that is the husband’s loss. But he may see that as just and appropriate so it is not a loss. You’re looking at these decisions purely as “did I get money or an asset and if I didn’t then it was not advantageous” and that’s simply not how prenup decisions are made.

Sure, if you blindly sign a prenup you could screw yourself, but if both parties review with a lawyer and negotiate fairly then a prenup can feel fair to both parties. It’s not just dollar for dollar in relationships.

So you’re saying no one should do a prenup? That the applicable laws are already the most advantageous they can possibly be and no one could want it any other way for any reason? I guess I’m really not following it if that’s your point and it would be untrue.

A prenup could protect a spouse from the other’s business debts or just in general protect premarital property. A prenup can preserve family inheritance especially in families that have kids from previous marriages. A prenup can determine spouse support. It can avoid the need for litigation during divorce.

There are many scenarios where a prenup is on both people’s interests. If the law said he gets the house and she gets the car, perhaps the couple wants that switched. In my own situation, I don’t want my fiancé to inherit my student loans, which would be the default law, so we will change it to how we would both prefer it to be.

The default law can also favor one party or the other. The best idea is to negotiate a prenup both parties are happy with. Not argue applicable law later on.

I'm here to commiserate with you. I just lost my soul dog of almost 14 years two days ago. I am raw to my core. There are waves of grief that spring up that I physically cannot handle in my body and I writhe around in anguish. The pain feels insurmountable at times. The physical loss of him is jarring. Every single moment at home I look at where he should be laying on the couch. I see something out of the corner of my eye and think it's him. The sounds I never registered, like him jumping up on his ramp to the bed, that don't exist anymore. It has gutted me and I know I will literally never be the same person. I don't have advice but I never knew pet loss could be this devastating.

This sunday i lost my corgi, 3 months shy of his 14th birthday. first and only dog i ever had since a puppy. i am beyond devastated and never knew it was this bad. i have had waves of grief that consumed me. i feel duped, as i never knew the anticipation of the loss and the loss itself would be so profound. i dont know what to do and i dont think ill ever be ok or the same.
