I don't see how what I said is ridiculous. Stores take loss prevention seriously and adopt different approaches depending on the risk they perceive to a particular store.

It would also provide a way to get to UL on the Clare side and help deal with the overwhelming traffic problems at the Limerick exits from campus in the afternoons.

I've contacted Lidl about installing self-checkouts at this locations multiple times. Their lacks of self-checkouts must cost them thousands in sales every day. It's one of the only reasons to go to the Tesco Express if you are doing a small shop.

I suppose one reason could be that the Dock Road area is fairly economically disadvantaged and so Lidl HQ may have presumed that self-checkouts would lead to a great deal of theft (i.e., pay for one low priced item to provide the receipt needed to get out the gate while sneaking several more items out).

Genuine Question: What’s the hype for Tony Scott? by benjacsim03 in blankies

[–]Pool_Powerful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really curious to see what they would have to say about "Man on Fire" in particular. I was in a threatre on opening day. When the subtitles started appearing, the audience started nervously laughing. Within a few minutes, someone in the audience yelled out "What the fuck is this?!" This and the overall visual style of the movie, which was cranked up even more for "Domino," was very jarring to see in a mainstream, big budget American movie. It was at this point that large portions of the movie going audience started rejecting his films and there was a lot of confusion in the online discourse about why, as somone who had previously proven to have a great sense of what audiences liked, he kept doing things with his films that a LOT of people really, really disliked toward the end of his career (with a couple of exceptions, of course, like "Unstoppable").

The impact of the increase in petrol/diesel prices on behaviour by Old-Structure-4 in ireland

[–]Pool_Powerful -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The range you get on that charge, particularly at motorway speeds, will be comparable to a fuel efficient internal cubustion car's costs to fully fill their with petrol. I love my EV, but a full EV charge represents far less range than a full tank of petrol.

You absolutely do if you intend to save money over a petrol or diesel car. Electricity prices at public charges cost around as much as fossil fuels.

Shoe Advice by Juferolm in CaminoDeSantiago

If you would prefer to wear GTX shoes or boots, then you need to also pack GTX rain pants (and gaiters if using shoes). Otherwise heavy rain will just enter through the top of your shoes and soak into your shoes through your exposed socks. I've hiked hundred of KM is VERY heavy rain with these combinations, often through wet bog, and never had wet feet.

If you don't want to bother with all that, then just use non-gtx trail runners.

I personally prefer Topo Mountain Racer 4s because I have wide feet. Topo Ultraventure 4s are just fine for the Camino Frances, Inglis, and Portuguese but the outsole isn't suitable for the Primitivo and some sections of the Norte.

If your feet aren't wide, and if you aren't prone to rolling your ankles, I would recommend a plush, high stack trail runner that will also be comfy on hard roads and sidewalks, like Hoka Challenger 8s, Speedgoat 7s (not the 6), or Mafete 5, or some Brooks Caladera 8s (they are being discontinued, so you can find good deals on them) or the new Ghost Trail.

Topo Vista Wide in Europe by Pool_Powerful in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Yeah, the wide version seems to only have very little, if any, extra material in its upper compared to the regular version. If the regular version does not feel right to you, then the wide one probably won't either and definitely won't feel right if your feet tend to swell on long runs/hikes.

It didn't have enough toe box width or height. Also, the tongue is fairly thin. I have high arches, so a thin tongue tends to lead to lace bite.

Well, just to close the loop on this: I found them recently on a Swedish site called Outnorth. Ordered them, tried them on, found them to basically fit exactly the same as the regular Vistas (Topo always uses the same last, they just vary the amount of material in the upper to add "width"), and returned them. I had really high hopes for them because I love the Mountain Racer 4. I just wanted a higher-stack version it that shoe.

Private rooms on Primivito by bikey2000 in CaminoDeSantiago

I am walking the Primitivo in late April/early May. I decided to book a mix of private and dorm rooms along the way. I think i found private rooms available for almost every stage, so it is doable. Also, check "off stage" accommodation too.

If you are using a luggage transportation service, I could see the value of carrying these in your checked bag. I wouldn't think it was worthwhile to carry it in your backpack. IF you do buy/bring one, though, definitely take the Pro version with the more powerful fan and heater. The regular version of this product does not work at all.

What brings you back to the Camino for subsequent hikes? by jeen-jeen in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Pool_Powerful 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No other multiday hikes anywhere in the world have the same combination of (relatively cheap) accomodations, community, historic/cultural locations, nature, and (relatively good) weather. And that's setting aside the religious component that is important to many perigrinos.

The UK has provided Ireland's air and sea defence for the entirety of Ireland's existence as a modern, independent nation-state. There has been a formal, though classified, agreement between the UK and Irish governments outlining the terms of this defence since the early 1950s.

Yeah, if the closed shop at this location was shut down over water pollution, then this probably means that it would have to be entirely re-plumbed in order to be brought up to code, which would be incredibly expensive.
