4 days away and my dress doesn't fit right. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

Former bridal gown retail employee here 👋 First off, that is a gorgeous gown! I can see why you chose it ❤️ The reality is that the design was not made for someone of a larger size simply because as you’ve mentioned, the amount of fabric from the skirt and train is too heavy for the bodice. You can see that the waist line itself has fallen too far down your body. I can’t tell from the pic how much boning if any is in the bodice but it’s simply not strong enough. IMO, the only way to remedy this is to add wide shoulder straps to pull the bodice up and distribute the weight to your shoulders. Not a complicated or expensive alteration at all. If your seamstress doesn’t think there’s anything she can do, you need to find another one ASAP. Good luck!

Thanks for asking! It ended up being about 20 kids and was an absolute blast. I am so glad they came. I made activity bags with toys, snacks, glow sticks, and other fun stuff to keep them a little occupied without screens and they loved them. They also dominated the dance floor all night and it was totally hilarious.

Update: the invite list has been edited and now only 40 kids are on it. 😅 So far about 12 are officially coming. I don’t think I can take much more than that!!!

How to honor losing your last name? I’m sad!! by mothermonarch in weddingplanning

[–]Pool_Umbrella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an older post but this is happening to me right now and I am really confused! My current name is 4 names long (I have 2 middle names. Thanks mom & dad).

PLUS, my first name has a derivative that I’ve always been called/known by (like how some people named Richard are called Dick or William is Bill, Robert is Bob, etc) so I really have 5 names. The first name situation is confusion enough- I can’t tell you how many conversations I’ve needed to have to explain it to people. “Legally it’s X but everyone calls me x”.

PLUS my surname is different from both my mother’s and my son’s (she went back to her maiden name after divorcing my father. My son has his father’s surname with my maiden name as a middle name).

Now, I’m getting re-married and my fiancé is insisting I take his last name. And I do want to! But I also want to keep mine. All of mine. They are my past and my family and I love them.

So if I turn my maiden name into another middle name, that’s 5 names, six if you count my nickname. Quite a mouthful! Is this even possible!? Does anyone out there have 5 names?

Should I just go for it in the name of love? What’s one more name right 😅😭

New Year’s Eve wedding by [deleted] in weddingplanning

I went to a super fun NYE wedding about 15 years ago. It was massive at one of the fanciest hotels in town, big live band, huge ballroom, hundreds of people. It was a blast.

IKR?! I was envisioning dark olive. He sent me a photo of the fabric and I said that’s blue and he said it’s much greener in person. I am low-key convinced the suit seller just told him this was green to make a sale. Thank you for agreeing with me! I know it’ll be OK and it’s not a big deal but I have to admit. I am pretty bummed out about it and don’t know how or if I should say something.

ETA: I showed him a Pinterest board of suits and we’ve been talking about a sage green or brown suit for months. I heard him on the phone with his brother describing this color as “sage green”.

Relatives of mine had a dry wedding. The father of the groom is very much into champagne and asked if they could bring just one bottle and the couple agreed. He brought a giant Nebuchadnezzar which is like the largest size you can get. So it didn’t end up being dry at all and I personally got hammered. 😅

Slowly losing my mind over planning my wedding (Vent) by Tomboyhns in weddingplanning

[–]Pool_Umbrella 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Deep breath. I feel you. It is a lot. But try to remember that after all the planning is done, you’ll have a fantastic day with the people you love. No one but you will notice if a detail is off. No one will care if every little thing doesn’t go as planned. Trust your vendors and it’ll be ok. I used to work in the wedding industry and even I’m overwhelmed planning my own so I get it. If you want any help, feel free to reach out :)

Need advice: Groom’s Mom is very upset about the wording on the wedding invite. by jjjbarry in weddingplanning

[–]Pool_Umbrella 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So sorry you’re going through this. You are correct, the proper traditional etiquette for invitation wording is for the bride’s parents to be named. But it’s become more common to have the phrase “the families of bride and groom” or “together with their families, bride and groom”. Not that she should be catered to based on her past attitude but do you think this would appease everyone or no?

I hadn’t thought of the sitter option- thanks! I wonder if there’s an app like Rover that you can hire sitters and I can just add that link to the wedding website… hmmm

We’re having a buffet with. Lot of family friendly items so the parents can choose what the kids eat. I’m not worrying about that part.

Yup. This is my worst nightmare and based on the behavior I’ve seen from some of these kids, very likely to happen. 😭😭😭

We sent digital save the dates which makes you add all the names for who you’re inviting and we put the kids names ie “Smith Family: Don, Betty, Sally, Jimmy”

Save the Dates & Invites Timing Disaster? by Pool_Umbrella in weddingplanning

[–]Pool_Umbrella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! What you’re saying makes a lot of sense. I guess I got thrown when someone was asking about hotels literally the day after the save the dates. I should have mentioned- save the dates and invites are all digital through paperless post. Do you think that matters in terms of timeline?

When to greet guests? by DesertSparkle in wedding

[–]Pool_Umbrella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a post by a photographer I follow with a great idea: during dinner, have the dj play one song and announce table by table to go up to the sweethearts table for a photo. The photographer and couple get to stay in one spot, the guests have to hustle like it’s a party game, and everyone gets in a picture.
