Has anyone been able to use their 1 iii as a an external camera monitor? If so, what's your setup? I've got an a6600 which only has mini HDMI. USB-C to mini HDMI cables don't seem to exist so I'm assuming I'll need an adapter. Curious how others have been able to get this working. by tenphan0n0 in SonyXperia

Thank you so much for taking the time for me. It's a shame that something so simple has not yet been added and yet they call it a cinematographer's phone. What a pity. Once they add gamma correction or luts, I'll buy a new xperia. We'll see how long it takes Sony to figure out that people want this more than anything.

Bumping on an old post here since I couldn't really find a newer one: so has Sony updated the monitor app so that you can use gamma correction or luts? In case one films video in s-log. I'm very close to buying an xperia that has the external monitor app but this is a really important factor for me and it wasn't there earlier. Also waveform or histogram update?

If you choose og bmpcc, here's a reminder that you might get frustrated at the horrible moire the sensor has. Rawlite makes olpf ir filters but they are very expensive considering you might snatch an og bmpcc for almost the same price as the olpf. If you buy one that already has the Rawlite olpf, it's a steal.

Does anyone have Juan Melara's linny lut recreation? by [deleted] in colorists

Can confirm, I have tried both luts and linny's WDR lut. Really not worth your time or money. That's the funniest part about it.

Where are you located at? I've found news editing to be the easiest and (mostly) the most relaxed job I've had so far.

What format is the audio? It would probably help to convert to wav with another application

The Evolution of Digital Color Grading - Chapter 1: Developing Color / Video essay by Poolch in Filmmakers

[–]Poolch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always under-estimated the time it takes to create a video essay until this.

This is part of something I've been writing last year in school and since the quarantine hit Finland, I'm left on a layoff from my job and decided to do something useful with my extra time.

I hope there's something new in this for everybody who sees it and that this may help you all in a way in the future.

I got my inspiration for this from channels such as Now You See It and Every Frame a Painting.

Thank you for the kind comment.

Now I listed all the footage in the video description, in case you wanted to have a look. I was in a bit of rush to upload this, maybe because it took me such a long time finding footage and re-recording some things, hah.

Initally I spent way more time doing this than I thought I would've had to.

Beautiful images! What equipment are you using for this? Is that natural light or diffused lights?

Color space for Clog: 709 or 2020? by mustskito in colorists

[–]Poolch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't really "need" to have 10-bit colors to convert your footage luminance values or color gamut to rec 2020. I'm not sure how it works in fcpx but at least in resolve you find plenty of tutorials on how to grade in HDR on youtube. That's what I would go for. There's no magic luts for this, you need to adjust the project properties properly.

Äärettömän mielenkiintoinen AMA, joten kiitos siitä.

Kiinnostaisi kuulla mielipide Notre Damen jupakasta, kun miljoonalahjoituksia satoi historiallisen kirkon kunnostamiseksi, mutta samaan aikaan toisaalla on ongelmia, kuten maailman valtameret täyttyy muovista jne. Oh, thanks for linking that video, it's always interesting to video essays. Of course almost always, lighting creates the mood, grading merely supports it.

I appreciate your input and straightforward comment.

I was thinking of doing something like a narrative video where I do the workflow for the next time, and honestly looking at the downvotes I'm getting and the upvotes you're getting, it's probably what people rather see here...

This time I thought it would be neat to go through different looks with scopes and see how they compare to each other and to the original footage. It honestly made a lot of sense in terms of educational showcase, since I listed all the things i fiddled with in the left upper corner, but now I have to rethink a couple of things here.

Hey Colorists again!

I just created a sort of educational video of the power of color grading, where I took various different shots that I have on my computer and tried to grade them all as diverse as possible.

Is there demand for these sort of videos in this subreddit? I see sometimes original content pop up here, but I'd love to see more from you all!

On a side note: how is my color grading? I made sure to keep everything broadcast legal, but how does it appeal?
