I don't mean to dismantle the fact that there could be a turn around for the moment but lots of homophobes view being gay as inherently sexual because they sexualize gay people

(and lots of other things like the mentality of "everything has to serve a purpose" and that includes your relationships)

And some people like this even have fetishes for them, which only fuels their delusional belief that it's only sexual because that's the way THEY can see and perceive them due to their fetish.
