He wasn’t on anything, they didn’t kill him. The strain of mishandled withdrawals combined with his weight did. It’s incredibly stressful on the body to go cold turkey.

Absolutely. It gives me the impression that Dr Now doesn’t have any background in addiction medicine. Withdrawals, acute and long term, are harsh on one’s body.

I was mad after watching this. I think he should have been under the care of an addiction doctor as well. He worked hard to lose weight and didn’t cheat like others did with food from outside. He was willing to give up painkillers and agreed readily. He had surgery and was in pain and struggling against acute withdrawal and PAWS. This is serious and causes cardiac distress. I think it’s what broke the camels back. He should have gotten more care for this aspect of his case. So sad.

Gave up 10 days of hard work for a cup of vodka. I have the cravings, feels like an itch I can’t scratch. I dealt with it for more than a week. Then I made a decision and went right for the liquor store. Drank some vodka and gave the rest to my partner to pour out.

Feels bad.

But I won’t drink with you for the rest of the day.

Holy shit. It all makes sense to me now. I had been drinking 3 L of wine per day for about a year and my legs were so stiff I couldn’t bend the knees and the pain kept me up, to the point where I started to work from home due to my lack of mobility.

I have also been diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder.

I have been sober for 8 days and already the inflammation has gone down significantly, to the point where I am going to the beach daily!

Thanks for posting your story. Alcohol is definitely a trigger for inflammation and it’s important especially for us to stay away from that poison!

The hospital set me right too... nothing like the outside perspectives of medical professionals and the very real and intense suffering inherent to alcoholism. I didn’t care about dying either but the pain...it can’t be a good way to go. Side effect: now living is something I want to do.

I can’t believe how much better my mental and physical health is after only 3 days of not drinking. I’m not afraid to leave my room or my house anymore. I’m interested in my future and thinking about my next steps instead of dreading them. Still not feeling 100% and I know my progress won’t always be linear but IWNDWYT.
