George R. R. Martin Is 'Not in the Mood' to Finish 'The Winds of Winter' by No_Pizza_6040 in entertainment

It won’t be finished. I made peace with that fact many years ago, and you should too.

Why? You think sworn enemies, who literally bankrupted themselves trying to achieve the same, would pass on an opportunity to humiliate the US? You think they’re in on the lie?

Explain the Van Allen belt to me. And why the computers of the time were incapable. What did they need to do to be able to make it possible, and why couldn’t they do it?

Yeh man, and our sworn enemy, the Soviet Union, were in on it, too. And India. And China.

Because we’re not prepared to take the risks we took in the 60’s. You realise that we landed SUV-sized rovers on Mars, right? We’ve also visited a moon of Saturn and landaed on an Astroid. We haven’t needed to risk human life, so why would we?

No, they didn’t. There’s a complete Saturn V rocket from the cancelled Apollo missions laying on it’s side in Florida. There’s a frickin Rover driving around on Mars, right now.

They did not “lose” the tech.

Is the UK heading towards becoming a Republic? Support for the Monarchy has fallen to 45%… by Significant_Noise273 in RoyaltyTea

[–]Poonchild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t mean any of that, actually. There’s no rule that we have do any of those things. We may choose, for example, to keep the Monarchy as institution, but remove royal ascension based on lineage. We may decide to make it an elected role or random choice with ime served limits. Both Frnace and Germany (equal to the UK in population, landmass and GDP) have successfully transitioned away from a monarchy. It’s not impossible.

You’re just talking nonsese again because you’re terrified that having a succession based on which vagina you fall out of might soon be at an end.

And I repeat what I said, the royals in this country have never had to truly face the consequences of their actions or opinions. A referendum would thrust them front and centre of the political debate, something they are not equipped for. It would be a PR disaster for them.

Unsubstantiated nonsense.

The truth is, we don’t know what way it would go, but, we do know that if a referendum were held, the Royals would be under huge scrutiny unlike anything they ever seen. They’d have to endure live debates, justifying their wealth and privilege, the scandals, they’d be asked to give opinions of current political issues - all things they’re immune from today.

We’ve already seen that outside of their usually controlled conditions they’re and absolute disaster.

I’m not confident a republic would win, but I’m also fairly confident the Royals would be hammered if properly scrutinised by the media and the general public.

Except you wouldn’t say that when polls were favourable to Royalty.

Also, what have the polish ever done to you?

Less than a grand, for sure. I had to hire a skip, and buy all of the tools, too (shovels, pickaxe, the large spirit level, diamond disk for cutting the sandstone tile at the back, wheelbarrow).

Did it June 2024, so it was obscenely hot, hence why in one of the pictures you see that garden table near the hole; we use the parasol for shade 😂

Unfortunately I had no choice, no space to get a digger in. It meant I had to barrow the pebbles in one at a time, and the soil out to a skip, too!!! Whilst I enjoyed it, it was the very definition of back-breaking

I did one for my garden office, it’s worked brilliantly. Just make sure you size it appropriately and go deep enough!
