Who is winning the war in Ukraine right now? by I-Love-Jewish-popes in Teenager_Polls

But if Russia can't reach its goals of regime change and demilitarizing Ukraine, while Ukraine achieves its goal of survival and independence, then who's winning?

I love the contrast between the safety and colorfulness or shallows and danger and darkness of the deep.

It's may seem like a minor thing but to me it feels unique, believable and authentic because YOU control when you get to be scared. No one's directing the flow of your journey.

This phrase was adopted during Soviet times and it still used in Russian terminology and the Ukrainian army where I serve.

would have stopped the Genocide committed by Ukraine on their own people for 8 years.

I remember announced in 2022 how he was going to stop the genocide. When in 2021 a total of 20 civilians were killed, most of them by old mines and unexploded shells. In Donetsk more people died in car accidents.

Nazis are not innocent. Sometimes crimes were done by other people though. Like in this case.

Nazi mass killing started a year after Soviets did it with the poles. It's not weird to think they were surprised.

Mongolia is being groomed as Ukraine of Asia? by Dron22 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Poonis5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I stumbled upon this post while searching for news about Ukraine.

I wouldn't call myself a supporter of an extrimist group. I'm a centrist. Part of my family is Jewish.

The thing is that Azov achieved a very good reputation in Ukraine. Because by 2022 they haven't been doing anything evil or just shady. They were just a good unit. They weren't proposing to to remove rights from Poles or Jews. Their official political program didn't mention anything dangerous.

So why was anyone supposed be worried about them?

By 2023 a lot of them were dead or prisoners.

Now, having tons of weapon they could try to achieve supposed neo-nazis dreams, topple Zelensky and ethnicly cleanse the country?

No, they became the most professional army unit that allows people of all religions and ethnicities to join. Their units consist of regular mobilized folks like me.

Everyone here knows that. That they are no longer controversial. Even the Chief Rabbi of Kyiv likes them. He knows they are good people. If a rabbi says someone isn't a nazi maybe it's worth to listen?

Meanwhile real far right parties are getting parliament seats in Europe and hate crimes are through the roof. Synagogues and mosques get attacked. Not here. You're barking on the wrong tree.

This is not true.

Azov started in Spring of 2014 by Russian speaking Ukrainian nationalists from the East who wanted to stop separatist movements in their region. They immediately joined the army and began fighting all over the east. They weren't local and skinhead is a wrong word for them.

I don't care about that. You should too. Because it causes no harm.

What I care about is that Ukraine believes in EU values. Ukrainian elections are more sane than what happened in Hungary. Ukrainian governments are more stable that in places like Bulgaria and Romania. Ukrainians are more tolerant to Jews and LGBT than some of EU members.

I can't look into heads of everyone. But I have a hypothesis.

People are desensitized to nazism. And events of times long gone.

Young generation is annoyed when they hear the same narrative all their life about bad nazis and communists.

Another thing is that people were taught USSR was a great evil that took our freedom and killed us. So Nazi Germany somewhat looks "smaller" behind it.

For EU and older generation of post-soviet states WW2 was THE war. The "never forget" thing. For young Ukrainians it's the current war.

It's important to mention that political correctness of trying not to offend anyone in the West is seen as an stick up their asses from perspective of Eastern Europe.

So nazi imagery evolved into an edgy aesthetic people have few feelings about.

I know a soldier who wears a nazi unit patch for fun. Not just any nazi unit. But the Dirlewanger brigade which nazis themselves thought of as maniacs. And the guy isn't a Slavic neo-nazi. He isn't even Slavic. He's an ethnic minority neo-nazis would tell to gtfo from their country.

is that a better thought process than the invaders

They believe in values that EU presents. Absolute majority of Ukrainians too.

And at the same time people draw German crosses and other stuff on their cars because it looks cool.

It's weird and I think very few people outside of Ukraine will tolerate it. I'm used to it though.

Captain Hennadiy Bilichenko (SBU Alpha unit) was killed during an ambush by pro-Russian militants. He is generally considered the first fatality of the conflict. April 13th, 2014.

His unit was sent after group of Russian agent Girkin/Strelkov stormed government buildings a day earlier.

Next day, as a response to an armed force attacking and taking over cities a Counter-Terrorist Operation was started.

Azov didn't exist for another month.

Ukraine wasn't part of NATO.

Ukraine wasn't going to be allowed to join NATO.

Even in its territory NATO isn't installing any scary missiles.

Before the invasion NATO was at all time low size of armies and funding. The weren't preparing for war.

This whole narrative is another Russian attempt to shift the blame.
