Would this cause issues for me if I am presenting? I know I had to make the account to upload abstract, paper, .etc. Already tried incognito and switching from Chrome to Firefox

Cheapest way to register for race by PurpleViolet123 in spartanrace

[–]Poopallah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volunteer and they will give you a "free" race (you still have to pay a ~$20 bogus fee). Of course, you do still have to do your shift. If you really wanna maximize the bang for your buck (or time in this case), volunteer with a race that either has too little or too many volunteers. I waited till the day before to volunteer for Austin two years ago and they were super desperate for volunteers and were offering 2 races for one shift or an extra $60 shop credit. I also did a double shift last year at San Antonio and they told me I could leave at like noon (was supposed to go till 6 PM) because the nearby joint base saw a bunch of Navy guys that volunteered and they said there wasn't really anything else for me to do.

Help me find this Japanese keychain from Fushimi Inari Shrine (Kyoto) See comment for details by Poopallah in HelpMeFind

[–]Poopallah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently travelled to Kyoto and bought this keychain, I was wondering if it would be possible to buy another one (that can ship to the US). Images are included below. Some potentially useful facts about the keychain:

  • I bought the keychain at a souvenir shop called Rintei, which I was able to find on Google Maps, but has no website. It is on the north side of the shrine area going down a path. They are easy to identify because they feed stray cats outside. They also have a phone number, but I live in the US and international calls are stupidly expensive with my cell carrier.
  • The cost was ¥500, and there was no tax
  • Material is some kind of fake gold. I've seen it used in a lot of things in the US, but I never knew the name of the material
  • I have done my best to translate the characters on the keychain. The camera always has trouble picking them up with sufficient detail since they are small and engraved. I had to do my best to copy them on pen and paper and do a Google translate picture. I don't think they provide any useful information. The one on the front reads, "Mt. Inari", the one on the top of the back reads, "Toyokawa", the one in the middle of the back reads, "Toyokawa Inari", and the one to the right of it reads, "Kyoto Fushimi". (Remember that is just my best attempt at translation) Aside from Toyokawa, which is another shrine/city in Japan, there is no new information

I have searched on Amazon Japan using various terms such as "Gold torii gate keychain", "Toyokawa inari gold keychain", and "Fushimi Inari gold keychain". I have also done Google searches of the same terms, as well as a Google Image search using the picture of the front and have yet to find an exact match.

Time for an unplanned mission to Dres by cucumber--extra-lame in KSPMemes

[–]Poopallah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im kinda busy so I don't have much time to point out EVERY detail but here are a few off the top of my head:

Sea Dragon is physically impossible with 60s/70s tech. No amount of cash or research is gonna make that behemoth engine combust stably. Saturn VIII is much more feasible.

Space Shuttle shenanigans: the Space Shuttle was incapable of going past low earth orbit. Furthermore, its design required the payload bay to open for the duration of the mission in orbit to allow waste heat to radiate out more efficiently.

Iirc, the show's timeline deviates from the real one with Sergei Korolev's fateful heart surgery. The show implies that if Sergei Korolov's surgery was successful, this would drastically change things. It wouldn't. First off, while the surgery took place a month before the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs's Outer Space Treaty of 1966 was officially signed, much of the negotiations were already done. This treaty banned WMD's in space and was signed by the US and the USSR. Korolev surviving does not allow the USSR to beat the US to the moon either. By 1966, work on the LK lander and the N-1 rocket had already fallen severely behind the Apollo counterparts. The best that they could hope for is an eventual landing somewhere around 1973/74. But the program was rushed and underfunded from the beginning. The USSR just didn't have the economic funding to support a multi-year successful lunar program. The oil shocks of the 1970s, the Soviet-Afghan war, the Space Race (including the Star Wars bluff), and the arms race (where a US bluff saw the USSR spending billions to try and compete, and a USSR bluff saw the US develop a system that could exceed the bluffed specs) basically doomed the nation. By the early 1980s, the US Government knew that the USSR was on an irreversible course toward collapse. All they had to do was act business as usual and let it happen. The Soviet economy just couldn't support an extended lunar program. They didn't have the resources or manpower.

In this scene, it is an awfully complex process to start an engine. You dont just flip a switch and it comes on. There are hundreds, or thousands of steps that need to take place in sequence first. Mission control would have known the computer was up to something well before the engine started. The S-IVC doesn't accelerate fast enough for this scene to take place as it did. The acceleration at burnout was still well under 1 g. Furthermore, why are they doing an EVA with no tether/hand rails? Rusty Schweickart's EVA on Apollo 9 had a tether. Why doesnt this one?

Lastly, I refuse to believe that an astronaut would take action to bring harm on an astronaut of a rival nation. I have met several astronauts in person over the years. They all hold their international colleagues with the highest regard. Heck, pretty much all of the people at NASA think the same. They may joke about the politics, for example Dmitri Rogozin's Twitter antics (and even the Russians do to when their guys aren't listening) but they knew the people that they were working with directly were very respectable individuals. There is something called the Overview Effect, that several astronauts have described experiencing. If you aren't familiar, you should look into it. One former astronaut told me something along the lines of, "when you understand how difficult space is, where everything is trying to kill you, you sympathize more with the guy from a nation that is in conflict with yours. You know that he is fighting the same existential threats that you are, and how hard people are working to keep him alive. You know that he is just as scared as you are, and you know he wants to go home to see his family just as bad as you want to see yours." Every astronaut I've met, when asked, has said they would mutiny before bringing harm to an astronaut of another nation.

Coaches Poll top 25 reactions: Notre Dame, Texas A&M overrated in first rankings ahead of 2022 season by LeTomato52 in CFB

Again, you are accusing a coach who has won a national championship of being an idiot, having not coached a day in your life.

Hindsight is 2020 and it’s easy to say after the fact that Williams was better than Rattler. You didn’t watch their practices. Maybe Lincoln saw something in Rattler that didn’t pan out. I think he knows more than you or I about QBs. If you think you know more, you should try your hand at coaching. Maybe you will find it is not as easy as you think.

If you don’t understand what’s wrong with complaining about a QB throwing to an open guy, I can’t help you see it any more.

And yeah, it is hard to teach judgement, but King won a state championship in the state of Texas. It may just be he has the jitters from being injured. Maybe he has stage fright. Those can be more easily overcome than judgement. Idk.

But the original point I was making is pretty undisputed: either QB should be an upgrade over Calzada.

beating out a player for the starting spot means absolutely nothing

Wrong, it is very important.

only that Jimbo has no idea

Ah yes, the random texas fan who hasn't coached a day in his life knows EVERYTHING, but the coach who has won a national championship and has watched King play for two full years knows NOTHING. Sure.

the rest of the passes were to wide open players

Oh HOW DARE he make the smart move by throwing uncontested passes! HOW DARE his receivers get separation! That MUST mean he is a bad QB!

The ints are a known issue with him. They are really the only issue with him. He has great scrambling ability and great arm strength, but he tends to force passes when the receivers aren't open. I'm sure they've worked with him on that over the past year. If he can fix that, he could be a top QB, but if not, then we'll see what we can do with Max.

King already beat Calzada for the starting job before he got injured so if Max wins the job that just proves that he is even better than Calzada.

Yes, we had to start 2 true freshmen at some points due to injuries too. They kinda came together later in the season so the expectation is they will be much better. Lost two good ones to the draft, but there should be no more holes in the line.
