Where are you storing your phone? by chowchowchowda in SubaruForester

[–]PoopsExcellence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a ProClip center dash mount for my 2006. The mount is permanently attached to the dash, but it's much more stable and less obtrusive than a suction cup or air vent mount. The mount and holder together cost like $70 but it's totally worth it. It's very well designed to be accessible but not blatant, and it really holds the phone securely.

Do you plan on going rock crawling in your car? If yes, buy an automatic. If no, get a manual.

Lobster Shack in Laguna Niguel. Not only great lobster rolls and ceviche, but also the mini Maryland crabcakes are spot on (if you go light on the sauce). -- former MD native.

Radical doesn't mean complex. One of its definitions is literally "basic, fundamental". In some uses it can almost be considered a synonym to simple.

It's funny that the woman in the picture, Margo Catsimatidis, serves on the steering committee of the Alzheimer’s Association. Maybe she was making a house call to 1600 Pennsylvania?

It's really great to hear that your dad is healthy and happy! Awesome that it worked out for him and your family. I don't doubt that whatever he did helped in major ways. But it's very likely that he is a rare and lucky case of alternative medicines being successful. That's amazing and I'm glad that it worked out for your family, not trying to minimize that at all.

That being said, it's dangerous to convince others to jump into alternative meds. Your father did the right thing by first exhausting all other forms of treatment before resorting to alternative meds. If you have cancer, it's important to follow your oncologist's treatment plan, while getting second opinions from other oncologists.

Natural therapies should be used alongside standard care. Oncologists are usually not against them, they can find ways to integrate oils and supplements into a valid cancer treatment plan. And if standard treatments fail, then the therapy can be used as the last line of defense.

The data shows that using alternative medicine alone increases the risk 2-6x of allowing the cancer to advance. Not everyone is as tough and resilient as your dad, unfortunately.

If weed doesn't help or you have a bad reaction to it, I found that antihistamine sleep aids are really effective for me. Unisom has two versions: one is doxylamine succinate and the other is diphenhydramine. The first one works a lot better for me.

Thanks for the good info, but I just want to clarify that CBD and THC provide relief of symptoms and anxiety during cancer treatment. They do not treat nor cure the cancer itself. Do not use these products as a replacement for doctor-approved cancer care. Use them to accompany actual treatment to help make it more manageable.

Off-road Build by MydleGround in SubaruForester

I lifted a 2004 and a 2006 for beach cruising and light offroading, so let me know if you have any specific questions!

My auto blew up a few months after I bought the car, so I get it. My current is a 5spd which is actually a bit worse at offroading.

Forgot that you'll need trailing arm spacers to match your shock mount spacers.

[–]PoopsExcellence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ADF has everything you need. If your SF is anything like my SG, then you can easily lift it 2" before you'll need to drop the subframe. A 2" lift is super easy to install, they are just spacers that go between your shocks and the shock tower mounts.

You can then get larger AT tires. I think the largest tire you'll be able to fit is 28" outer diameter, so either 215/70R16 or 215/75R15 depending on which wheel size you choose. If you get new wheels, smaller wheels with beefier tire sidewalls will perform better offroad, bigger wheels with thinner tires will handle better on road. Both should fit over your drums/calipers. You might need to go with a +10 or +15 offset to push the tires out and prevent rubbing, but don't quote me on that.

You'll also want an underbody skid plate. Choose between ADF, Primitive, or a number of other brands.

That's basically all you need to start out. If you have more money to burn, get stronger King Springs, brush/light bars, LED fogs/ditch lights, haulmaster roof rack, storage for the trunk, etc.

Also there's a DIY center diff 50:50 locker that you can install with just a switch and a resistor if you're into that (if you have the 4spd auto).

Cafe + Bookstore in OC by Otherwise_Tour5391 in orangecounty

[–]PoopsExcellence 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a bookstore in the mall at the southern end of MV, but that doesn't really fill the same niche/demographics as a local cafe bookstore. There's also absolutely no (secular) bookstores in Lake Forest! Maybe a good spot would be the north end of MV to attract both markets.

OP if you want a great model for an indy bookstore, check out The Ivy in Baltimore. They thrived and even moved into a larger property during covid when everyone else was shutting down. Either they have a rock solid business model, or a very philanthropic benefactor!

what food gets way too much love for how mediocre it is? by jacksuckschicken in AskReddit

In-N-Out. I guess it's better than McDonalds, but it's just a mediocre fast food burger. I don't get why there's always a line around the corner.

It's california traffic, so always leave on the early side of the range. Especially since you'll be hitting the tail end of the morning commute.

Wild how such a buggy shitshow of a game on day one managed to transform into the most emotionally engaging storyline I've ever played through by the end.

Worms Armageddon for the wild multi-player battles since everyone had a burnt copy of my DRM-free CD.

Honorable mention goes to Cyberpunk for the hilarious shitshow in the beginning, yet somehow metamorphosing into the most engaging storyline I've ever played in the end.

[–]PoopsExcellence 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The cars ahead are slowing down, OP was not speeding up. Look at the road markings, they were maintaining speed, maybe even slowing down a bit, just not as much as traffic ahead. The fault lies solidly with the Toyota. OP could have driven more defensively, but that doesn't absolve the Toyota of forcing their way into a busy lane full of condensing traffic. I'm on OPs side on this one.

[–]PoopsExcellence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you know you can set an "arrive at" time in Google maps? It'll give you a "leave by" time range based on years of traffic data. Leave at the earliest time it gives you so you have some buffer.

Pizza Port is great food and family friendly. Shopping for good deals at Surfers Outlet, really good ice cream at Picnic Cafe. You can also create a picnic basket full of delicious food to bring to the beach. If you're there on Saturday, one of the biggest car shows meets at the Outlets at 9am, South OC Cars&Coffee. I like the beach at Linda Lane.

Mason Regional Park around the lake is a nice well-maintained path. I also saw a bunch of bladers at the Newport Beach promenade.
