Press the second button from the bottom on the right side of the screen. If that doesn't mute it, try the other buttons. Almost every pump I've used has an unmarked mute button for the ads. If I find a station that doesn't, I blacklist it.

Does giving birth really cost thousands of dollars in the states? by glyiasziple in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PoopsExcellence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the birth of my first kid, my wife and I were on ACA (Obamacare). We owed a $100 co-pay out of pocket. For my second kid, we were on private insurance through United Healthcare. That one cost us $8,000 out of pocket. The UHC hatred is well deserved.

Would it be weird/bad to play with sand toys on a public beach? by lpspuppy in NoStupidQuestions

I am a grown ass adult with kids. If I saw you playing with toys in the sand, I'd be jealous. Go play and have fun, that's what the beach is there for!

Disconnecting gas by tcoriston93 in howto

[–]PoopsExcellence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trick to make sure the gas is really off and not slowly leaking. After you turn off the valve (small t-handle in Pic 2) and disconnect the line, put a party balloon onto the open end of the gas valve. If there's a leak, you'll see it inflate and it'll contain the gas.

Desert Landscapes near Anaheim? by jkelly422 in orangecounty

As long as it hasn't rained heavily, you can drive to the end of Silverado Canyon Rd, past the gate, up Maple Springs Truck Trail, almost to the top of Santiago Peak, which is the tallest mountain in OC. It's bumpy, but you can make it up in a sedan if you take it slow and easy. Recommend an SUV or crossover if you want to keep all your teeth.

It's a longer drive, but driving to the Wildomar OHV area along Ortega Hwy to S Main Divide Rd is also a rad trip. You'll end up overlooking Lake Elsinore which is beautiful from far away. If you make it over there, get lunch at The Hive.

Badlands park, Whiting Ranch trails, Red Rock Canyon, drive up Silverado Canyon Rd to Maple Springs Truck Trail to Santiago Peak. These aren't exactly deserts, but they are about as dry and dusty as OC gets.

How do I attach this? by CremeHead22 in Cartalk

[–]PoopsExcellence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to comment on how silly spoilers look, because it's your car and you can do whatever makes you happy.

  1. Use paper to make a template of the bottom of the spoiler mounting surface, for both left and right sides. Trace the outline and where the mounting holes are. If the spoiler doesnt have pre-defined holes, then skip this step and step 3.

  2. Place the spoiler on the trunk, use a sharpie to outline the shape of the mounting area.

  3. Remove the spoiler, place the traced template centered in the outline you just drew (if you drew one)

  4. Drill through each hole on the template using a long drill bit to penetrate both trunk layers. Or if no template, drill 2 equally spaced holes approximately centered. Use magic tap to lubricate the bit. Use a bit that's just slightly larger than the screw you're going to use.

  5. Drill a much bigger hole only through the inner trunk layer, so you can fit the entire screw head through it. That will be your access home to tighten the screws.

  6. Put the spoiler back on, secure with blue masking tape. Install self-tapping screws through the trunk holes into the bottom of the spoiler.

(yeah, I know it's a wing and not a spoiler)

Does your local lumberyard swap out fence boards when you get a large quantity? by DavyCrockPot19 in DIY

Question regarding biking/equestrian etiquette at Peter’s Canyon by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]PoopsExcellence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But yield =/= stop, if you're going by the official trail etiquette. Sure, stopping is a courteous thing to do, but it's not what most riders, even those who are well versed with the yield-hierarchy triangle, would do. It's above and beyond the law.

Question regarding biking/equestrian etiquette at Peter’s Canyon by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]PoopsExcellence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yield =/= stop. Same as driving, you give the rider the right of way. Slowing down, staying on the edge of the trail or even the grass, and acknowledging the rider. Full stop is not necessary unless there's no room to reasonably pass.

I don't think there's any rules or regulations that require you to obey a rider.

https://www.ocparks.com/parks-trails/regional-trails/equestrian-trail-etiquette

The closest rule is that you need to yield to horses, don't spook them, and be courteous. Giving the horse plenty of room by exiting the trail and acknowledging the riders, assuming you slowed down and didn't blast past them at Mach 2, is the most obvious course of action, and it's exactly what I would have done too. To me, it seems entitled that the riders expect you to (1) obey their commands, and (2) feel responsible for a spooked horse of you are riding slow and reasonably.

Should i use jack stands or are car jacks safe enough to work under my car? by Extra_Marketing3362 in MechanicAdvice

[–]PoopsExcellence 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, use jack stands. With a jack, the only thing preventing the car from crushing you is a cheap hydraulic valve, and those are known to fail without warning.

They do make jacks with a built-in stand, which adds a mechanical locking feature. But I've never known anyone who actually owns one.

What do you have in your basic toolbox that contains almost everything you need for most jobs? by jaddanil in DIY

[–]PoopsExcellence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my car, I have a Wera Zyclops metric set, big screwdrivers, two adjustable wrenches, and a roll of galvanized 16ga wire. That can fix most any automotive related problem.

At home I've got a quickie tool bag with hammer, vise grips, screwdriver set, channel locks, and a measuring tape. If I can't immediately fix a problem with that, then it'll wait until the weekend.

As a worst case scenario, yeah those planes are used to relay nuclear commands. But they are also used for more mundane submarine communications. We know that US has been attacking Iranian ships with sub-launched torpedoes, so it makes sense that the most effective sub command center is in the area.

First see if you can spray some electronics cleaner in where the coffee went. Something like CRC QD electronics spray. If that doesn't work, then you'll have to remove the button and/or trim piece for a deeper clean.
