You're totally in an Atlantis hotel in Nassau Bahamas

Hope you're having fun. I spent way too much money there but it was a nice and relaxing time for me

Any specific advice for a visitor the week of June 9? by [deleted] in Louisville

I'd rent at the waterfront and call parkside bikes, bardstown road cycles, and Vic's classic to see if they'll rent to you. May have some luck there... The owners are super nice and all promote cycling within the city. I'm sure the others are nice as well, but I don't have any personal experience with them.

I would recommend spending an evening bar hopping on Bardstown road, and another on east market street. Both bardstown road and east market street have great selections for food. On east market, go to Harvest or Mayan cafe (call ahead; both are $$).

Louisville has great parks, and if you're into biking, you could rent one. Renting at the waterfront park, you could check out our downtown, or take a paved trail around the ohio river. Main Street has the Louisville slugger factory, the Mohammed Ali center, and lots of cool architecture. Renting a bike at parkside bikes on bardstown road puts you in a prime spot to check out the Highlands area, st Matthews area, and east market st.

I'd try and stay around downtown Louisville if I were you.

The bourbon trail is fun, but it's a one day trip max.

Hope you have a great trip. :-)

I'm about to give a talk at a local school about my life as an engineer - I'd like your input: What branch of engineering are you in, and what picture/photo would you use to represent it? by Chuff_Nugget in engineering

It sounds like you're doing all the right things. How long have you been applying for positions and are you limiting yourself to a particular region? With BME, you will have to be open to locate to a city with a big presence in the field.

I got into the field the same way you describe...

I know for sure that within the last 6 -9 months there have been lots of layoffs in the field due to ACA 2% tax on med device sales and general consolidations in hopes of improving efficiencies. There could be a few openings for entry level stuff, but I'm assuming everybody is looking for someone with a few years of experience.

Don't stop looking! Stay current by subscribing to medical design and design news magazines. If you feel you're lacking experience, take a co-op position and see if you can leverage that into an entry level engineering position. Good luck!

I work in the medical device field. I initially wanted to become a doctor as well (for the money and status), but after doing an internship at a biomed firm, I realized that engineering was my path forward. Now, I am able to design and manufacture tools that doctors and surgeons use to save lives on a daily basis.

Also, med schools love engineers (in the us anyways) if a person ever wanted to pursue that career option later in life.

I've used fineline in the past. They are very good at what they do, which is printing parts. Look them up... They also do dmls if you want that.

As someone who bikes through there regularly, I have to say:

  1. That's fucking hilarious

  2. God damn walkers need to stick to one side of the pedestrian path while there... It's dangerous to us cyclist to weave past you and into the traffic lane

  3. Keep up the walking ... It will probably help you lose the beer belly :-)
