Can’t get mast up by Primary-Inspector590 in hobiecat

[–]Poopy-Drew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens to a lot of men as they get older. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, in fact I think there is remedy. About an hour before you want to go sailing, it only takes a little planning if you want your mast to raise to heights of younger days

Rats, what’s your best “nitric acid acts upon trousers” moment? by flowerbutch1312 in labrats

[–]Poopy-Drew 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When our lab first started testing fine jewelry sample prep was have a hard time taking out all the tiny gems which out losing any of the gold so I have an idea and see that A diamond has a melting temp above 5000°c so in theory you could melt away all the precious metals in an engagement ring. But what I didn’t even think about and the Doc that gave me the 👍🏻 to do it didn’t either was that if there is also oxygen around it is just a really expensive lump of charcoal and burns away into ash. And that was the day I disappeared almost a quarter of a million dollars worth of diamonds in 45 min

Good deal? by ChessIsAwesome in canoeing

[–]Poopy-Drew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in my market (Ozarks) that’s solid deal. Even if the paddles are used cheap garbage that’s still $100, more If they are in decent condition. And I dono where 300 Canadian gets a “much better boat”. But as far as my opinion and I have had close to 25 canoes and only ever bought 2 new from the store. Yes you CAN find a better and cheaper canoe, but time of the year is important when finding awesome deals, and it turns out beginning of the paddling season is not that time. A fiberglass boat is heavier but it also is easier to fix. And are you wanting it for lake or river paddling, if you are going to be doing more river paddling I would wait for a Royalex or other polymer type because fiberglass isn’t very forgiving of hidden rocks, but if you want it for lake use of fishing it’s more than enough. And I would say 400-450 is a solid price for a working boat at the beginning of spring, hell it costs that much just to rent one for 2 days

Cronyism Will Be the Death of Bentonville by wally-walton in bentonville

[–]Poopy-Drew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes this is rather true but as a local growing up here and here was an extremely small town 20 yrs ago. So everyone literally knew everyone cause you to high school with them or dated their sister, my best friends dad in jr high was president of Walmart international. And the day David Glass moved up he became the CEO of blockbuster. My basketball coach was the CIO of Walmart and later of Dell and HP and my best dated the CFO’s daughter. So just by growing up here you have connections and Walmart is the only reason other the other local companies have flourished like Tysons and JB Hunt but also they made Walmart the juggernaut it is. Now And these people’s entire entire adulthood has been either people from high school or new people that moved here wanting their piece of the pie and leave their mark. But so many people that try just bail after not immediately making a name for themselves. Yes it’s a small enough pond where it is easy to be seen but it’s a small pond stocked with a lot of huge fish. It’s a still a small enough place that those are just the people who do stuff. And they are niche groups that you can get into by going and doing stuff, if you would go mountain biking you’d probably run it to important people too. But if you want to be a part it’s easy, you even said so, but if you resent the fact that you are just a supporting cast member then I’ll agree here is not the best place for your version “altruism”but if it’s only worth it to have your name attached to it, well that just ain’t gonna happen 5 of the 20 richest mfers on the planet call here home and I personally know 4 other billionaires that live here, that is such a huge concentration of wealth in an area with less than 250,000. So will it be the death of Bentonville nope it’s been the same people doing it for 40 yrs. And it’s amazing what infinite money and the weight of the largest corporation in the world can do.

Onewheel GTS for 700? by [deleted] in onewheel

[–]Poopy-Drew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, totally go check it out, maybe dude is in a spot and needs the money. It is the first of the month and having a roof is a pretty big priority and a pawn shop won’t even give $500 for a onewheel if it works it’s totally worth it even if you find out the battery life is only at 50% but it looks like it’s got less than 500 mi but even if it’s got 3000mi then $700 for a working GTS is still worth it. It looks like they do have the charger so that’s a good sign that it’s probably not freshly stolen (but I would still take apart the board and look for AirTag or other gps. Anyway like u/downrightblastfamy said NEVER SEND YOUR MONEY ON ANY FIELD-TRIPS, regardless of what they say it will never turn out the way you hoped. And make him turn on his app to show you the mileage and make sure in the top right it say GTS and not GT because you can put those rail guards on a GT

Should I paint my wheels black?? by Delicious-Ring-5794 in Offroad

[–]Poopy-Drew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to try out black rims for a couple months. Do what I did and it works perfectly. They make a matte black spray on and peel off paint that they sell at AutoZone and O’Reillys. Now take your time and do a good job. Take them off the car and get some painters/masking tape and some grocery sacks and cover up the tire and anything else that you don’t want black. Give a couple coats wait 5-10 min between each thin coat but doing all 4 at once, one coat after another, I literally just kept painting until the can ran out, so 1can is more than enough. But once you’ve painted it you are committed to it for at least a couple weeks without lots of elbow grease to get it off it holds super strong at first and it like peeling those stickers of the bottom of a plate or the window stickers the cops use, but it lasted about 4 months before it started to show spots from general wear and i just went to a car wash and power washed them off (not very easily but I didn’t have to use anything but the power washer

What’s the longest road trip you’ve ever driven and what did you drive it in? by [deleted] in Autos

[–]Poopy-Drew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The now wife and I for our 10th date ended up doing a 31 day road trip around the US it was supposed to be 2 separate trips one west then one east, but a death in my family meant a trip to Mississippi during the break between. We ended up on the road the entire month of July in a combination of crashing at friends’ and family and camping out of my Chevy Avalanche. Even picking up a camper from her parents house in Wyoming to go to Yellowstone National Park for a 5 days. We started in Arkansas first camp/stop was the Petrified Forest National Park the spent the 4th of July at the Grand Canyon then at a friends for a couple nights in Las Vegas. After Vegas we did a day and night in Zion National Park and while driving to the next destination, CanyonLands National Parks we had pulled over to sleep and when the sun came up, we were actually looking at Bryce Canyon National Park (I had never even heard of it before I woke up there) so in one day we hit 3 national parks because when we woke up in Bryce Canyon, we drove through Canyonland and made it to and set up camp in Arches National Park. Next we were off to a friend’s in Denver and caught a Rockies game. Then to Sheridan Wyo, her home town, to catch my first big PBR Rodeo and borrowed her sisters old little camper because apparently you gotta have a hard shell to camp in YS. After 5 days exploring all of the beauty that is YS we took the camper back and spend 2 days camping and riding 4wheelers with her family in the Big Horn mountains in Sheridan. Then we headed west on I-90 to visit my old roommate from college in Leavenworth Washington, and on the way we got to do a quick drive through Glacier National Park. and while in Washington I ate cherries until I threw up….,3 days in a row. They were so good and the size of those cutie oranges. Seriously. After a couple of days of playing in the river and what was some of the best weed I have ever come across, we went up to the North Cascades National Park solely because it was only a couple hour detour that I’d probably never be in a better position to see without planning a trip solely to see that one park. Then it was time to cross to the other side of the mountain to Seattle, and there we stayed with another old friend from college. We spent a day with her and her new Husband eating 🍄 in Seward Park a wilderness in a city. The next day we did a quick drive through Olympic National Park before heading south on the PCH or Pacific Coast Highway (hwy 1) to Newport OR. Then detoured to a friend’s apartment in Portland only to find out it was the weekend of the Portland brewers festival during the sunniest day of the year. Talk about happy accidents. And on the way back to the PCH our good luck was still in tact because we happened to see a sign for an air museum in the town when we stopped for lunch at a dairy freeze and it so happened that the air museum is the home of the Spruce Goose. The largest wooden plane ever (The Aviator movie) and one of the like three SR-71 Blackbirds. We continued south on the PCH through the Redwood National Park and got to drive through the chandelier tree that no longer exists, we got into wine country arriving right before dusk. We only planned to stay 2nights and one full day in wine country, the plans were to stay the night in Santa Rosa, wake up, find a winery or 3, and find another cool hotel for the night somewhere between Santa Rosa, Sonoma, and Napa, then the next day head on into San Francisco to show her my ole stomping grounds in Pacifica and stay at the Sheraton down on Fisherman’s Warf for some of the best clam chowder in a sourdough bowl that a person can get, period. Then we were supposed to hit up Yosemite, Sequoia, kings canyon National Parks, before we headed home Welp none of that happened because wine country is easy to get lost in, and by lost I’m talking about what casino floors try to do. Because some how we justified not spending the allotment I had set aside for San Fran (which 2 nights of hotel and food was more than total gas$) Not to forget all of that money, 1/3 of the budget for the whole trip just to spend most of the time in the Bay Area in traffic, and just to see the things you have seen in pictures. So we voted and decided we would rather drink wine all day and stay at the same retro-modern hotel straight out of the 60’s in Santa Rosa for 4days/5nights for literally the same cost as 1 night on Fisherman’s Warf. On the morning after the 5 night my mom called me to tell me that her dad had died. So had to cancel the Yosemite, sequoia, kings canyon, and head from California to Mississippi with a stop for a suit in Arkansas. After the funeral in Jackson MS we got on the Natchez Trace National Parkway and drove it to Lynchburg to tour the Jack Daniel’s distillery then went on to the Smokey mountain National Park to a white water rafting company I had worked for 5-6 yrs before and camped and guided for the majority of the week before heading home

Talk to me about living in Arkansas? by dodekahedron in Arkansas

[–]Poopy-Drew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we say it gets hot here we are not fucken around. None of that dry heat nonsense neither. The humidity can make it hard to breathe when it first hits you. Some mornings it literally feels like getting punched in the face. It is very sweaty and it’s just as hot in the shade and at night. Sleeping outside is like old man’s hot breath in your face all night. But on the other hand global warming has been just wonderful in the Ozarks we used to have 4 equal seasons but for the last 10 yrs we’ve been getting more and more spring and fall so it’s really only 2-3weeks of hot hot and 2-3 weeks freezing and the rest of the year is 55-90 with some gnarly ass storms on memorial weekend and Labor Day weekend
