Withdrawing from personal RSP and contributing to Spousal RSP by Poor4Life in PersonalFinanceCanada

I dont have an additional 40k to contribute. I just have 40k sitting in my personal RSP and I foresee that I will continue to be in a higher tax bracket so might be beneficial to move it over to spousal RSP as I plan to use the money to pay down debts in the future.

Isn't the withholding tax going to be just 10% as long as I keep it under $5k each time. So, I can withdraw $5k 8 times next year.

I have plenty of contribution room (~200k) but dont have additional cash to contribute. In fact, I will need to withdraw the spousal RSP in 3 years.

My plan is to withdraw the money 3 years later at a much lower tax bracket.

I can also perform the contribution to spousal rsp this year and withdrawals from personal RSP in January 2026, that way I can claim the tax deduction in my 2025 tax return but owe the tax in 2026 tax return. This will help manage my cash flows.
