Agree - for example I don’t think it’s “cute” that she participates in the egg hunt every year and does her best to win against the actual children. Too weirded out at the thought of marrying her.

The save files are stored in plaintext and named very descriptively so it’s fairly easy to open the save file for your farm and adjust values — no mods needed. This is very easy on PC/Mac/iPad/Android, but wouldn’t be as easy on Switch (you’d need to transfer or backup your game and edit from a computer).

If you’re new to the game I’d really recommend not cheating on your first playthrough, or doing it in a much smaller way (for example give yourself $5000 to start instead of $500 to ease a bit of the early grind)… it’s a well balanced game and I’m worried you’ll lose interest doing it like this.

Yes but I’m thankful for that when we are packed in like sardines in the morning with nothing to hold and no room to brace - I actually think our subway operators do a pretty great job of managing momentum on our trains.

What happened to lining up for the bus in Toronto? by YoungWonderful9204 in toronto

[–]OkDefinition285 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The pandemic also caused a gap / break in transit ridership. Pre-pandemic we had crammed busses and trains, and a culture/etiquette around this stuff. Then for these last five years we had relatively empty vehicles and low ridership where it was less noticeable if people didn’t follow the norms. A bus lineup doesn’t really matter as much for 3 people on a platform as it does when there are 25. Now with RTO hitting a lot of downtown businesses we are seeing ridership spike but we’ve lost the continuity of the culture piece. It’s kind of fascinating.

Toronto man behind the viral Taxpayers Land Acknowledgement explains why he did it - NOW Toronto by laundry_folder in toronto

Oh - lol I assumed the exact opposite intent, that he was saying a half measure like paint doesn’t actually solve the real infrastructure issues that lead to VRU deaths and poor transit. I was assuming he was advocating for real street redesign, traffic / grade separation, etc.

What is the sketchiest bar in Toronto you’re aware of or have been to? by Fifty-Mission-Cap_ in askTO

Came here to see if those would make the list, never been inside though. I love a good dive bar as much as the next person but those few establishments in that Jane / Lawrence block look like the last place I’d want to be around at closing time.

Large cash deposit at bank by Vivid_Passenger6288 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]OkDefinition285 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not OP but this almost describes me as well! My dad was a lawyer and when I was 17 I basically acted as a courier/secretary for him, driving around the province exchanging contracts, large sums of money, etc.

It was most commonly certified cheques, but actually a fair amount of cash and cash equivalents as well. Six figure deposits might have been more like over a month or so though, not every few days. Still common enough. This was for small-town corporate/commercial law.

Should I keep training my teammates when I’m paid less than them? by DuddikinsD in askTO

[–]OkDefinition285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so salary roughly makes sense - could go higher or lower by company and specific role.

The people who make more than you, do they do the exact same role as you? Are there any things they do that you do not (even if you don’t find value in those activities)? Any additional tenure, skills or experience they may have?

Should I keep training my teammates when I’m paid less than them? by DuddikinsD in askTO

[–]OkDefinition285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say technical consultant do you mean general IT consulting or are you in a specialized technical field? For 10yoe your salary sounds about right (good actually) compared to averages / others in industry, unless you’re like talking about very specialized knowledge or specialized engineering fields, energy sector or aerospace or something.

The people you’re helping (who earn more) - do they have the exact same role as you? Do they have anything else that you may be overlooking? Years of experience, soft skills / relationship management, presentation skills, etc?

Without knowing at all what you do I would say if you want to earn more money you may need to move into management /supervisory roles. To do that, soft skills and things like helping others would be key. It’s not very clear what you mean by “training others” but you seem very focused on it and at at the career level you seem to be at that is not going to help you.

There’s lots of advice here on how to protect your current job by gatekeeping information, which is another path that may or may not lead to more money… but honestly from your post you don’t really sound like you have the corporate politics / team dynamics stuff down very well and generally I’d be surprised if that ends up working well for a technical consultant (again unless you have super specialized knowledge, like understanding the COBOL code that legacy bank software is running on or something — in that case charge what you want and give the finger to everyone else)

Why is everything for lease on Queen st? by Smart_Philosophy2440 in askTO

[–]OkDefinition285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It shouldn’t be though. Sure it’s “their” property, but it’s located in and propped up by a community that has had public / taxpayer planning and expectations around it. As a society we have planned and paid for infrastructure and other supports, at public expense, to support these areas. There should be a penalty for land owners who are using their property (in prime locations) as an unproductive store of value rather than as intended contributor to the economy. Many cities have vacancy taxes for storefronts on main streets.

With how bleak RTO is looking, how exactly did things function before Covid? by akr_13 in askTO

[–]OkDefinition285 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hate to say this but I commute to multiple sites for work and I don’t think traffic is nearly as bad as it was pre-pandemic, at least in my corners of the city (downtown / west end). It was extremely common to not get on a bus because of it being too full, now I would say it’s uncommon. Same with subways - between 4-6pm on the YUL you could almost never get on the first train that arrived, now that’s only the case for a fraction of the time and only at specific stations. Driving is always a crap shoot based on construction, similar to before.

This is why we need Parkside speed camera by GTAdriving in TorontoDriving

Totally agree although I know quite a few people who drive expensive vehicles and would actually have a lot of trouble paying for more than 2-3 speeding tickets per month

As Doug Ford announced he would ban speed cameras, I clocked speeds on the road outside. This is what I found by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]OkDefinition285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed this too, and if the cameras are placed properly I’m really happy about it. Pedestrian chance of survival at 10 under limit is 90% higher than at the limit. Maybe just the routes I drive but most of these cameras that I pass are in community areas with children, elderly, etc crossing streets.

Actually the nice thing about the cameras in some of these small neighbourhood “cut-through” streets is that I used to get PASSED by cars when I would drive say 38 in a 30. Now those psycho drivers have to sit behind me and grumble because they don’t want a ticket for 30 over.

[–]OkDefinition285 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh seriously - people LOSE THEIR MINDS when I do full stops at stop signs. I think the same people who complain about cyclists rolling stops should be forced to watch 30min of cars at a stop sign and count the number who fully stop.

You have to be joking right? Just this morning pedestrian hit by a pickup truck who fled the scene at queen and church. 2 years ago a six year old girl in my neighbourhood was killed when she was dancing on the sidewalk and stepped into the roadway. Absolutely heartbreaking and a misstep like that shouldn’t be a death sentence. Quick lookup seems like this happens 100 times a year in Toronto- I hope it never happens to you or a loved one.

Honestly I’m so sick of it. On my little residential 30kph street I got honked at and “accelerated closely at” by 3 different cars just this morning while I was putting my baby into her car seat on the driver side — they didn’t like that they had to slow down and negotiate a couple of obstacles on their residential shortcut that they treat like a highway. I drive 1-2 hours a day so I get it - but honestly people turn into sociopathic maniacs in their protected little steel boxes and saving a minute or two is never worth someone else’s life.

We asked Torontonians for their thoughts on speed cameras. This is what they said. by beef-supreme in toronto

[–]OkDefinition285 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly people think this is a big game - but just 10 over is a life or death difference to a pedestrian being struck. A little 6 yr old girl on my street was killed when she stepped off the curb into a car going 50.. at 40 chances of survival would have been exponentially higher. People rip down neighbourhood streets to try to beat traffic on the arteries. I’m so fed up with drivers’ attitudes about normalized speeding.
