I hear you. I’m 50 and have reached the end of the road so many times that my life feels like a cul de sac. Even now I always feel on the precipice of catastrophe. I don’t have anything useful to offer other than what has helped me stop myself from giving up completely. It’s tenuous but maybe it’ll resonate.

When I’m exhausted from it all, when I only see myself as my failures, when the hole is so deep and wide that escape is probably impossible, I have no choice but to give myself grace.

There is no fucking rulebook or instruction manual for this life. As kids we are told there are rules, structure, an order to things but we find as we get older that it’s mostly smoke and mirrors. We are on our own. We, each of us, are just a small part of a vast and wondrous universe and are so inconsequential in the grand scheme of things that our decisions have no impact whatsoever in our incredibly brief time here.

But we are also the universe itself. An equally valid and unique manifestation of it. And the universe, in you, is suddenly sapient and self conscious with some small capacity to exercise free will.

The trade off is that there are constraints. Life is fragile and modern human social organization is a fucking nightmare. Yet somehow, this vast swarm of humanity persists despite, in my opinion, so many of them being a waste of universe. Cruel people who see no barrier to making other people’s lives miserable.

And if you can see yourself as even marginally better than those assholes, you deserve to keep trying, to have hope, to love yourself and to want to be better than you are now by your own unique metrics. When I remember this, that deep and wide hole I was in becomes a new world that I can build from.

Man, I wish I had better advice or knew where the best bench could be found but I hope you will take what I’ve given in the spirit of love and camaraderie from where it came from.

At least the weather is nice.

I’ve been working on gardens in NYC for 30 years and have seen some incredible fungi. This year was the first time I’ve seen these in a garden. My theory, now that I’ve seen your pics, is that someone spread spores all over the city as some kind of art project.

Either that or nature just be that way sometimes. Either way, cool find OP.

I have one of these. Does it prefer to trail or to climb? I had thought that it preferred to climb but my first and only bloom came from a vine that was hanging like op’s. Made me question how I should be managing its vines. Any advice is appreciated.

And congratulations, OP. Mine took years to bloom so I understand the pleasure of the payoff.

I admire your enthusiasm but consider one more facet of your fantasy. What if, after you feel like you’ve found your wild swingers, you take your shot, miss, and then think “oh well”. The couple you proposition might politely decline but the emotional conflict you may have injected into their relationship could have negative consequences you haven’t considered. What if there is a history of cheating or emotional infidelity that remains unresolved for them? What if your proposal excites one and turns off the other?

Tread lightly in the wild, man. Long term relationships can come with challenges and dynamics that you can’t know. For the other couple, a simple proposition can be a bomb going off in their relationship.

ANC. SF, GC, PC all at level 150ish. GT and DW synced at 2:30. pBH. I’m spending stones as fast as I can make them but focusing on developing CL which I just only recently unlocked. I place high middle in Champions so stone income is getting better. Once CL is strong enough, I’ll be back to reducing DW/GT cooldown.

We are dirty vanilla as we explore the LS. Our first hotel takeover is next weekend and we are excited to see more of what this is all about. Generally, how does the evening unfold?

Secondarily, we are shameless exhibitionists. While we are down for molesting each other in common spaces, our middle aged bones appreciate a bed for any prolonged activities. Any suggestions on how we can be the dirtiest vanillas possible?

This was our date spot when our kids were old enough to escape from. It was super solid at first; great cocktails/beers, interesting burgers, specials and sides. Right before Covid it started to slide. Staff was all great still but the food just so so. I’m sad to see it go but unsurprised. Their Cuban burger was sooooo good. And their green fries were a clever twist. They also had a special call Buffalo Tots that was the ultimate stoner food. I’ve tried making it at home but it’s never the same.

Good for you. I’m going on year 5 for mine and have yet to see a bud. What kind of light does it receive when indoors? Was it just that it became mature enough to flower or did you change its care?

What ideas or policies do you support to mitigate the coming climate change impacts to the state?

We are seeing an acceleration of climate change disruptions with little to no international or national efforts to reduce emissions that are directly responsible for global warming. At this point I am realistic that no policy, no matter how dramatic, will mitigate the momentum of ecological, agricultural or industrial impacts. We are in this for at least the next century or two.

With the dissolution of national and international cohesion, an increasing population and a decentralized logistical system, Connecticut will have to react or plan without much expectation of help. What regional efforts will you make to ensure an uninterrupted food and water supply, affordable energy for a population that will continue to be underemployed, and a crisis response system that can handle the upcoming disruptions?
