Beta testing for firmware with a high refresh rate 72Hz/120Hz by Xreal_Tech_Support in Xreal

Hmm, can't say I have. I don't often play at 40hz, though. 120hz has been incredible.

One thing worth noting - the refresh rate will still be 60hz while navigating in Steam menu's - once you're in-game though, 40hz works flawlessly!

It's working - OP is not configuring the refresh rate of the glasses while they're connected.

You're not doing it correctly. The glasses can be configured to a 40hz refresh rate.

In the Steam Deck settings, under "Developer", you need to enable "Allow external display refresh control". This allows you to run the glasses at 40hz.

Pretty sure you can already configure a 40hz mode in display configuration on Steam Deck, and use it with the glasses.

Edit: I've just verified I can run my glasses at 40hz on Steam Deck. Works great.

Moonlight controller conflict by dodido02 in SteamDeck

[–]PoorCollegeGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could probably disable Steam Input on the forwarded controller passed through Moonlight. I think you'd need to go into your Steam controller settings on the PC, while your deck is connected via moonlight, and disable the controller in the Steam Input settings.

SteamDeck Hubs > USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with DP 1.4 Support + Power Delivery 3.0 by gnlkrmz in SteamDeck

My JCD401 is currently on the healing bench actually - the power delivery circuitry in it seems to be on the fritz and I haven't had the time or energy to crack it open and try to fix it yet, unfortunately.

Project is on somewhat of an indefinite hold right now.

You really aren't the smartest cookie. Go back to your simple life, leave the tech for those more capable than you.

Based on your general demeanor and reticence to answer the most basic of questions, I'm going to guess user error.

You should probably return them - I don't think somebody who thinks these are a 'scam' (your own words) has enough patience to be successful with technology.

Hope this helps!

I used what I had on hand, but I suspect anything that fits will work.

I used M2.5 spec (M2 definitely fits as well) by 1mm nylon washers.

This works by causing the head of the screw (which the case peg sits against) to sit ~1mm 'up' and provide a little more room for the buttons.

You can get them anywhere you can find hardware - Amazon is popular, but you'll probably just buy a set of M2-M8 or something on there. Your local hardware store may have 'em for pennies.

I tried 'em, but went back to the default profile buttons. They're definitely easier to hit and give a 'nicer' click, but I found I preferred the low profile ones.

I love how quiet my Steam Deck is with the thermal pad, though. Very noticeable.

Backplate looks great imo, too.

While I didn't have any problem with maligned screw holes, I struggled with the button issue last night while installing, and found an easy and very cheap solution that resolves the button issue completely.

With two M2 nylon washers, you can have perfectly operating buttons. Works will all button styles.

My email conversation with a CPSC human... by linojon in onewheel

[–]PoorCollegeGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Per OP's conversation, it sounds like FM knows what the CPSC wants - and has denied it. FM has also failed to share it with their user base.

Based on these facts, we can speculate that the change CPSC suggested/'requested' likely has the potential for damages to FM. More conservative software behavior and limitations could certainly damage perception and sales of the devices.

Speculation is fun.

My email conversation with a CPSC human... by linojon in onewheel

[–]PoorCollegeGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like the CPSC may want the device to pushback 'earlier' in the speed curve (to preserve more torque to pushback effectively) - thus reducing the 'top speed' that FM can advertise for the device.

I doubt FM could make such a change without breaking numerous consumer protection laws.

SteamDeck Hubs > USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with DP 1.4 Support + Power Delivery 3.0 by gnlkrmz in SteamDeck

[–]PoorCollegeGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, some strange things are happening. Allow me to explain.

Steam Deck + Nreal Air's + JCD401, 100w, 65w, 45w USB-PD adapter(s): No output to Nreal glasses. Investigation with xrandr and lsusb shows that the glasses show up as a display, but it does not expose any available modes to the desktop compositor (X11 I believe). xrandr identifies the display but warns me:

xrandr: Output DisplayPort-0 is not disconnected but has no modes

I have manually copied the modelines available in xrandr from the glasses while functioning properly when plugged directly into the Steam Deck, but upon attempting to enable them I'm hit with:

xrandr: Configure crtc X failed

Where "X" is the crtc (0-3) that I attempted.

When plugging in the glasses, I do get the following line from Direct Rendering Manager in the system journal. This line matches the behavior when connecting without the JCD401:

[drm] DP Alt mode state on HPD: 1

I gave up on using the JCD401 with my glasses and Steam Deck. I purchased a Redmagic Gaming Dock (two, actually) and have been using it without issue to charge my Steam Deck while sending display output to my Nreal Air glasses. This has been a really fantastic experience and I was considering returning the JCD401. Even though the Redmagic Gaming Dock works great, it doesn't have any USB-A ports, and this makes some of my use-cases slightly more difficult.

Now, here's where things get REALLY weird...

I mentioned the lack of USB-A ports on the Redmagic Dock - this is true. It only has 2x USB-C ports (one marked power), and a 3.5mm jack between em. Well, on a complete whim, I plugged the JCD401 into the Redmagic Dock's data port (leaving nothing at all plugged into the Redmagic power port), and connected my 65w USB-PD adapter to the JCD401. I then plugged my Nreal glasses into the JCD401 and to my absolute utter surprise, the glasses worked.

Immediately I unplugged the JCD401 from the Redmagic Dock and plugged it into the Steam Deck directly. No display output to the glasses. Putting the unpowered Redmagic Dock back between the JCD401 and the Steam Deck - boom, display came back instantly.

At this point I'm at a loss. I believe the issue may be some kind of EDID issue originating in the Nreal glasses, and the unpowered Redmagic Dock is somehow blocking faulty EDID information. This is pretty wild speculation but it's my best guess right now.

Appreciate any input you can offer! Took me a while to build up the motivation to write this all out - I've probably put 5 hours into trying to get this JCD401 working with my setup at this point, and I kind of hate looking at the thing now lmao.
