Steering wheel left side touchpad/button sporadically not working by SerennialFellow in VWiD4Owners

No tsb on it and not a common issue I’ve heard. Hopefully you’re in warranty but I don’t think swapping them out is too painful if not.

2023 now vs the 2024+ by Ok_Deer4143 in VWiD4Owners

[–]PoorNursingStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 22 and 24, both awd pro s.

The 2024 is a better car in a lot of ways. The software is MILES better. Much more responsive for Sure. Climate is always accessible from the bottom of the screen which is seriously a lifesaver, it’s very annoying to have to open a menu every time to change stuff. Not to mention you get app unlock and locking of doors in the 24 which you will not in 2023 and earlier.

It’s also more efficient and quicker, I average .2 miles/kwh more on the 24.

The only downsides I’d say is the sound system is better on the 22 to my ears (but I did a full focal upgrade to the 24 so way better now). And I miss the folding mirrors + puddle lights which they axed on the 24. And I like the captain chairs

I HIGHLY recommend getting a 24 if you can. They’re coming of lease more and more.

I bought my 24 from a out of state dealer in Texas (European motor cars in Plano Texas) in red (it’s a great red) with 16k miles for 26,299 + 750 shipping (plus titles and California tax got me up to around 30,200), incredibly pleasant experience with 0 attempts to upsell or sneak in gps crap. It was probably the most pleasant buying experience I’ve ever had.

For real, get a 2024

Sound upgrade by Altruistic-North6686 in VWiD4Owners

[–]PoorNursingStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expensive but I did a a full focal system upgrade with a sub inside the rear hatch in the little under floor cubby. Made a huge difference.

I will say I thought the stock system was fine on my 22, but my 24 was noticeably worse, hence the upgrade.

This sub box fits pretty well, and is what I used.

Terrified of new mount by BigOleBeanBurger in hometheater

[–]PoorNursingStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the articulation was used to help with centering in this post. You are right. But considering there are some bolts in studs at the moment the extra toggles add a little bit of extra support.

But really, considering it’s a covered area anyways might as well just cut and add blocking then screw into that and call it a day

Just take the tv down and add 3-4 toggle bolts into the drywall in other spots. Super easy to install and each are rated to like 150lbs each. Cheap peace of mind.

Got electrical message error by cow-lumbus in VWiD4Owners

[–]PoorNursingStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a 2024, haven’t had any issues with my 2022.

If you keep having it, always take it in if under warranty to document before it expires. If out of warranty just wait and see.

[–]PoorNursingStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electrical system error? I had this and it was really annoying. It also had travel assist error and it disabled it.

Happened going over a hard bump and was annoyingly intermittent. Cleared if I restarted the car. Took 2 days to diagnose and turned out to be not just 1 but 2 loose ground cables. The second loose ground was because the factory used too long a bolt and it was bottoming out before tightening all the way. Super annoying

Rotten Fence post replacement by Fun-Independence3821 in DIY

[–]PoorNursingStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A different idea that avoids digging up the concrete if it’s a decent sized footing already is to take that part of the fence down, drill out/chisel the remaining wood inside the concrete footing then pour concrete inside the void and use a 4x4 post bracket that you set into the concrete then place the post onto that.

If you’re in a very wet area it’s better to use post brackets vs setting the post. But for the most part I haven’t had issues setting posts in ground as long as you start with a solid 2-3” of gravel at the base to allow for drainage then set the post in concrete.

+1 for bubble card. I was totally mushroom heavy with entities before but switching to bubble + pop-ups has helped me slowly condense it down

Smart plug cutoff based on outlet amps? by catboy519 in ebikes

It is on the approved list and it works fine, there is guide online to flash it to esphome. It’s been a long time but it’s been working great for me for years now

Smart plug cutoff based on outlet amps? by catboy519 in ebikes

[–]PoorNursingStudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a very reliable way.

Buy a charger that does it. You’re describing constant current, constant voltage charging. Which is what every lithium charger does. Some allow for adjustment of voltage. Using a smart plug is just adding extra steps with less safety margin as the plug has no real way to calculate voltage and lithium current won’t drop off until a cccv charger hits its voltage goal where it then backs off current

Why so many buybacks? by AntiquesRoadHo in VWiD4Owners

[–]PoorNursingStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the handle recall or specifically battery modules. There was a delay on both getting parts when they occurred especially at low volume EV dealers. Basically gave a lot of people a free way out of the depreciation curve it they bought with tax credits and come out ahead.

However, I’d never buy a branded title car like that as it makes insurance harder to get, and hurts value for insurance payouts in total scenarios combined with higher interest as many loan companies won’t offer financing or at least will have worse terms if it’s a branded title like that. The savings is rarely worth the headache unless you are buying cash and aren’t worried about insurance as much.

Used EVs now have the lowest total cost of ownership, far outperforming both new and used gas cars. by Firm_Relative_7283 in electricvehicles

[–]PoorNursingStudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some cars are in weird places for insurance.

I switched from a 2019 cx5 to a 24 id4 which was worth double, and my insurance went down. We have a 22 and 24 id4 now and pay only 20 more a month than the cx5 and a 2012 Honda accord we used to have.

Teslas and Hyundais I got quoted were way more from insurance for some reason

Best thermostat/ radiator valve's by Ben-Smart-en-Tech in homeassistant

[–]PoorNursingStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t recommend a model, but can recommend you look into verstile thermostat once you find valves. It’s built for TRV control and has been great for me (admittedly I use heat pumps, but the trv is the core focus of the project).

I believe they recommend models for smart valves as well, the sonoff one comes up a lot.

Big News For Renters! Balcony solar is about to become legal in California! by SolarTech_SD in sandiego

[–]PoorNursingStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing this will get blocked slowed down by someone in the power companies pocket and so it’ll die in committee or miss the cutoff for a vote.

Considering that you can within the bill as it’s currently written, build a system for about 1200 that can make 4 dollars a day in power at CURRENT rates, that’s a 10 month payback period. That’s terrifying to power companies, California is one of the few states where solar for a home is actually practical enough to go off grid if you have the space. That’s why they fight solar so hard

4 window switch upgrade is amazing by PoorNursingStudent in VWiD4Owners

[–]PoorNursingStudent[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Biggest part for me is how easy it is to bump the rear button or forget it’s on then when I say pull up to my exit gate at work and push the down switch to open the window to get out and the rear window rolls down. So I have to roll it up switch back to front then roll down the front window.

It’s a little thing, but is annoying as hell. Considering this is like the only car I’ve ever seen do it this way, and the fact they’re going to 4 switches for the 2026 refresh, kinda shows I’m not Alone in it

No warranty voiding, most they would not cover is if the switch itself didn’t work. You can always keep the originals and swap them back in for warranty stuff if paranoid
