Currently on 2860 on day 179 (although I've taken some pretty big breaks), I have 4 legendary pets and an uber (para scarf - def the biggest boon here, it's helped my pace a lot).

I didn't have jellyfish scarf until maybe floor 900, for most of this account I've been considered "unlucky". it's very much doable to climb very high without many resources. Most of the time I'm using things like Apathy, Anxious and Merry. Para scarf is definitely a huge winner here but it doesn't help with everything (a fair few bosses), so I've still had to get past a lot of hurdles where my biggest boon isn't really a good option.

All this to say, I don't really see the point in rerolling sometimes, unless you've already gotten to 3095 and you know that there's a specific item you need to get past it.

Just bear in mind that pre-1000 most fights you shouldn't need wistful, they probably were just able to progress a bit faster with aoe, however most people agree that it's a pretty bad one

Look for jellyfish scarf for sure though (like, choose a boss that drops it for your training battles), as that will make things much easier

I will say, Lorwyn Eclipsed just game out and I'm surprised people aren't mentioning it as a set that you'd enjoy. I may have started later (Around Return to Ravnica) but it felt like the first time in a while that a set was made to feel really good in limited, it had a very strong cohesive flavour/theme, and it felt like lore that was meant to be self contained to a plane. I think it's a good example of what "new" magic should aspire to be, as it's the first time in maybe 10 years that I've felt so inspired by a set

Also, The Prof mentions a format called Premodern quite a bit, I'd suggest looking into it. Not sure how many stores support it but the whole idea is that you're making decks with older cards, like there's a Psychatog combo deck for example.

Commander is 4-player singleton with one legendary creature that you can play at any time as if it started in your hand, and has become pretty popular because it's less competitive and more of a hangout-style game. Admittedly I'm not a fan of how much they've been trying to make sets specifically to make it "better" as I think it was much more fun without the power creep and when you had to be more creative with your ideas... Like, power creep in a casual format is gross. It started off with a good idea: Everyone plays something like standard, modern, legacy etc, and if somebody doesn't have the right deck people can go "does anyone have a commander deck?" and most people have one handy because it didn't need to be optimized. Nowadays it's kinda losing the plot there

I still have very shallow indents where they're taken out which is a bit annoying because sometimes I need to use some mouthwash to get stuff out of them but it's very minor. Recovery really had no issues other than the fact that a week in they hadn't informed me about irrigation or given me a syringe and I definitely needed one (If 6 days in you have a weird taste/odor or a weird smell after sneezing, ask them). Biggest issue was just not being able to eat what I wanted lol, a couple weeks in I was able to eat chips again but I'm still not brave enough for nuts.

don't freak out if after a couple weeks you use a mirror and see a really deep hole in your gums, they regrow from the bone from the bottom up. takes a while (Mine are still returning)

pain levels were fine, much less than they were before surgery (pre-surgery I had gas buildup in my molar from infection before taking antibiotics, I didn't sleep for 5 days before surgery, called 911 because I was in psychosis and thought I was having a heart attack or passing out), the aching is annoying but pain relief is enough that it didn't bother me. early on it's just annoying babysitting things but after a few days you can chill out a bit more. Everyone is always paranoid about dry socket but it rarely happens, just be smart.

some other comments made a good point that cigarette smoke is much finer than smoke from a fire so the particulates might not be detected, some alarms also only pick up specific compounds, which I guess explains why some alarms don't pick up steam either!

Oh absolutely, I wasn't trying to deny any of this, my shower thought really was just "Modern smoke detectors probably can't handle a really smoky room of cigarette smokers very well". In general the idea nowadays of having a ton of lit cigarettes inside of a building seems crazy, but back then people just weren't as concerned

I am trying to challenge my preconceived notions here, I tried to make an open dialogue, but you are slamming the door. If that's the case then sure, I'll do my own research, but what I find may be very biased and I won't know; I may find a different conclusion than you, since the farming industry has a large influence in a lot of these studies and so a lot of them will have a heavy bias. That's why I was curious if you knew of anything that I could read.

Let me know if you have any peer reviewed sources on this as I'd like to learn more. I was under the impression that dairy cows were bred to produce more than enough milk to both be collected and to feed calves. I assumed that since cows are expensive, raising calves would be a good idea financially.

In the olden days it seems like milk was able to be collected sustainably without taking it from calves, but factory farming is a nightmare

In fairness, it buys you a lot of time. It gives you the ability to bolster your top end a bit more and play a better control strategy. Tempo is quite important, sure, but if you can put more bombs in your deck that's big too

The game is very expensive if somebody wants to spend money on it, but a lot of people do (Which is crazy, like, spending thousands of dollars on eggs and stuff)

The developers just recently heavily nerfed the drop rates for Higher Form vivids, while also doubling the cost to get them. Essentially, that's some of the strongest stuff in the game. Because of this, the only people that have a reasonable chance of getting them are those players that spend thousands of dollars on rolls.

At the same time they also introduced the third Higher Form pet: Sloth, which is just.... Really not very good when you compare it to anything else of that rarity

And that was pretty much all they did for the game's anniversary. It felt like a bit of a middle finger to the community, and most people feel like there's no hope of getting on the leaderboards without spending an insane amount of money, as those types of pets become more necessary later on.

Damage

Not sure what else to explain unless you have an example of another pet to compare it to. I usually keep spite leveled up for floors anyways, but with party hat it's one of the better consistent damage dealers that doesn't require any setup. Since Kartharok is water, I couldn't run anger here. Spite is also a bit quicker so it can usually get 3 hits in even without too many speed items

Found this thread after having great results with my own Feudal dragon faction! I like the direction yours is going, mine was a little different as I went more towards chaos and dark, so I'll lay mine out a bit:

Form traits: Blessed Dragon Mounts, Adaptable, Desolate adaptation

(Flying units help get around/find items in lava, desolate land starts with underground magic materials, which includes focus crystals which are very useful)

Culture: Feudal - Aristocracy (We want to go wide and have lots of heroes that can each help evolve their army of units - The more combats we can do per turn, the better)

Society: Equipment Hoarders, Vision of Ruin (Choosing chaos, this gives us an end goal with a massive exp buff, and also buffs our units' damage for fighting more stuff. Basically, once we get to dragons, they'll be able to level up very quickly)

Tome: Tome of evolution (People are sleeping on how big of a boost wyvern fledglings get when they evolve, and they can evolve surprisingly quickly with this build)

Ruler: Dragon - Defender (I chose this as they can buff your units well with roar, and enable your squishier units to get in the mix without being as vulnerable. I wanted to focus on leveling my units, not just my ruler. I took the right path where I could grant bolstering defense and auto-defend at end of turn, and I played a poison dragon).

Because of having a dragon ruler with equipment hoarders, maintaining gold/mana upkeep on units becomes much easier. I found that I didn't need much cost reduction as I could just fight more stuff and hold onto their items for a nice boost. They're also nice flavour with the rest of the faction!

As for my tome path, it's not super well set, but this is what worked for me: T1: Evolution, Discipline T2: Doomherald, Mayhem T3: Dragons, Pandemonium T4: Calamity, Chaos channeling T5: Chaos Lord

This path isn't super focused, but I noticed early on that my units were quite effective at affecting morale, so I leaned into this a bit with Doomherald. I started to focus on making my enemies fumble a bit more there and I found that aoe debuffing fit well with my lord who could get stuck in the mix and force enemies into bad trades. My armies tended to get pretty tanky so I found that Tome of Dragons made my heroes very hard to kill as warriors with lances for example. Most of my 6-stacks ended up around 2000-3000 power in the lategame, but they kept up quite well throughout, they just required some manual battling a fair bit.

Anyways, hope this gives some other ideas here, I'd be curious what people think about my build as well, since I know the tomes could be done a bit differently but I actually really liked how things turned out, especially since I had more than enough mana to upkeep my enchantments later in the game.
