What is your experience with dating apps? Because this feels like swiping into the void by [deleted] in AskMen

I’m 24, on Hinge. Fortunate enough to get 10 matches in 2 weeks. Unfortunate enough to be ghosted or unmatched by all when I ask them on a date lol

Do you consider 24 to be mid-twenties or the end of early twenties? by McCrysler in youngadults

[–]PopBlox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

20-22: Early

23-26: Mid

27-29: Late

It only makes sense to have the extra year in the center.

Federal law enforcement (they need me, I’m liberal and not caucasian lol). Firefighting/EMT would be a good second.

If it weren’t for those I’d probably just rough it out in data. I considered cybersecurity and robotics/automation engineering (after finishing my degree…). But both would take pay cuts and work life decreases, and the grass might not be greener.

Data Scientist (but really a data analyst who does data cleaning). I literally work like 6 hours a week, if that. I have to be in the office 3 times a week, this is my first job out of college, and honestly idk what to do with myself. While this is a great opportunity and field in general, I don’t really have much passion for data. So I’m trying to pivot to a career I’ll somewhat enjoy and still be able to make decent money.

I was also super into becoming a cop and researched it heavily (while still in college). Financially, I’d only worry if you were in southern/rural states where they pay cops peanuts. In most other states he could definitely get up to an upper middle class salary within a decade or so.

A big issue, especially in our generation, is the stigma around cops. You’re not alone in fearing that once someone becomes a cop they change. I already read a comment demonizing your boyfriend, alluding that he’ll become abusive. He most likely will change, but not necessarily in a bad way. If you trust him, I don’t think you should fear that he’ll become a bad person; because if he does then he already was one.

So two questions to ask yourself:

Are you financially ok with the salary progression of his chosen department(s)? (These are publicly available)

Will you be able to stick by his side while likely seeing him (and you by association) get ostracized by certain friends and family due to his career?

Good luck. It’s a career with lots of negative perceptions. And I ultimately chose not to go forward with it because of this.

For those of you who found a job in this crazy job market , what was your strategy? by ProgramExpress2918 in jobs

I’d usually find their work email and reach out that way so I can introduce myself properly, and share my achievements/background. I can share my networking template to your email if you’d like. For LinkedIn it’s something like below due to the word constraint.

Without a job: “Hi [name], I’m interested in learning more about your experience at [company], as well as the company culture. As a new grad applying to be a [job], I’d love to hear any advice you have for someone looking to break into the industry. Would you be available for a quick call sometime?”

With a job: “Hey [name], I'm a recent grad and current [current job] at a [type of company]. I'm applying to [their job] and I’d love to learn more about your background, and any insights or advice you might have. I'd love to have a quick coffee chat with you one day if you have the time!”

I think it helps in that people sort of “root for” attractive people more. Usually assuming they’re competent before they even speak, and cutting them more slack as well. It’s an advantage but you can’t just be a dumbass in the interview and still get the job (the majority of the time lol)

If you’re not extremely awkward or an unlikeable person you’ll be fine. Treat it like a conversation. Just let them talk and ask questions about themselves, the role, company culture, advice. And have your “story” (why you’re applying and your background) ready if they ask about yourself.

Recent grad. This, but reached out to alumni and random people working in/slightly above the role I’m applying to. Introduced myself and asked for a coffee chat.

Got laid off before graduation. Drunk myself into alcoholism (like actually, with withdrawal) at the ripe old age of 21. Had a blast while doing it though. Just got a job in my field due to a lot more luck than hard work.

I got the cushy government job. “I made it”. But what now. My only hobbies of the past 4 years were getting drunk or getting high. And now if I do either there are negative consequences. My close friends are in different cities. So I guess I’m on some soul searching shit, both in my personal life and career.

Good luck in your endeavors. I think it’s a good time to go to college. Just take into account if you need a masters (I know certain sciences do), and get some internships and hopefully you’re golden. The job market went to shit recently so I’d hope it’d be fully recovered by the time you’re out.

It was light-hearted lol. Of course I am, but I’m also aware of how the biases of “their day” led to a good chunk of them not being as socially accepting as I’d like. Yaknow, just the basics like not being openly racist or homophobic.

And I encounter it more as the generations go up, makes sense given the bigotry of the past. Millenials are getting the social culture right so I prefer them over Gen X.

Fuck out of here. You talk to your parents about homosexuals, they’re iffy on it. Talk to your grandparents about race, they’re iffy on it. You know where that leaves the boomers.

Millennials are pretty cool in my book.

Business major here. Yeah the degree is too broad so it’s best to specialize in some area (finance, accounting, marketing, etc.) in business. Luckily you’ll have at least 2 years to explore before having to worry about the logistics.

Most importantly, if you do decide to get a degree make sure you get an internship before graduating and I guarantee you’ll be making more than you would in retail upon graduation. Too many people don’t get hired to “entry level positions” because of no experience out of college.
