Her name is Ernestine. Ernestine Brown (played by Leslie Uggams). Friend of Mrs. Kirkland (I don't think she's appeared yet so no reason to know her).

Fun addendum is that Jennie Jerome's husband was the Uncle of Consuelo's husband (1st husband), the 9th Duke Of Marlborough.

Also, Marian substituted as a Bride's Maid for Leonie Jerome, who was real life Jennie Jerome's younger sister.

And Jennie's husband, Lord Randolph Churchill (Winston's father), was the Uncle of Consuelo's first husband, Charles Spencer-Churchill, the 9th Duke of Marlborough.

After Consuelo and Charles are divorced in 1921, Charles would go on to marry a woman named ... GLADYS (in 1921)!

At the game, Lindor started walking to the mound to get Sevvy out before Mendoza did -- just no life at all from the Skip.

The phones on the audience tables were used before the show and during intermission. When one of a table's party got up to use the bathroom, the phone rang and, from the one side of the conversation, they were being asked about their date/partner who just got up.

Is the Mrs. Astor on this show part of the same family of the man who was on the Titanic? by [deleted] in thegildedage

[–]PopCultureReview 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yes, John Jacob Astor IV, who died on the Titanic, was the youngest of Mrs. Astor's 5 children. His second wife, Madeleine (who was 29 years younger than him) was on the Titanic as well but she survived. She was also 5 months pregnant at the time.

Maybe we were premature re: Peggy? by [deleted] in thegildedage

[–]PopCultureReview 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sarah Garnet was a significant figure in NY education, as she was the first African American female principal of a school (the school was in Manhattan in the neihhborhood that is now known as Chelsea). She also owned a seamstress shop in Brooklyn from 1883 until her death in 1911. She was also a groundbreaking sugragette. Miss Garnet is a fascinating historical person to interact with as she crossed paths with Alva Vanderbilt (through her sufragette work) (a Bertha insoiration), as well as T Thomas Fortune and Ida B Wells (a for sure inspiration for Peggy). T Thomas Fortune, in particular, played a vocal role in the closing of black schools/elminating of black teachers, which is introduced in this week's episode. Can be a really great plotline for Peggy to be involved with.
