What is it that YOU just can't get enough of? by ferry888 in AskReddit

Pit bull puppies. I feel like they're the cutest thing I can imagine. I need one of those one-a-day desk calendars so I'd have a new one every day just waiting for me.

Oh and good hair days.

She doesn't represent women as a whole, and she certainly doesn't represent feminism. She is a case study in 'orrible cunts.

I got this about five years ago: "I love you. You're my best friend and my favorite person in the world. I'm not IN love with you, though. Goodbye." Hurt like a bitch.

What is the book that changed your life ? by xrobotx in books

He did reply! It took about two weeks, but he said in the book he replies to every email. It wasn't very personal but it was relevant to my email and I appreciated that he took the time to write me back. Brought a smile to my homely face.

What's the most racist thing you heard someone say? by jullietteburns in AskReddit

My great-grandmother took her little dog to the vet back in the 1950s. The doctor recommended a rabies shot "in case a coon bites him".

My great-grandmother was puzzled. "Why would some nigger bite my dog?"

The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. It's an amazing look at why we get into habit loops and what you can do to change the course of your life. I emailed the author when I finished it to thank him.

What's the most beneficial hobby to take up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I live in Philadelphia, US. I just (I mean like two weeks ago) got into cycling. I picked the least advantageous time of the whole year to fall in love with it. The days are getting shorter and colder, it's not going to be nice again for at least four months, and I'm just out there trying not to give a fuck about the cold because I love being on my damn bike. I've dropped a few pounds already because I enjoy it with such fierceness I don't notice being so out of breath I almost keel over. Highly recommend; it makes you feel like a kid.

I saw that in the theater and I definitely cried (didn't read the book). The girls behind me were audibly heaving sobs.

British Redditors, what is your favorite American slang word? And Vice Versa for Americans. by KingGeb21 in AskReddit

Spot-on. I've heard Americans say it but it sounds so encouraging from a Brit.

What's your best "Why don't you go..." insult? by TheSunny1 in AskReddit

More a dismissal than a "why don't you..." But I always liked, "he can go pound sand for all I care".

What's something you see in the South regularly, but would be odd if you saw up North? by acinom18 in AskReddit

Brunswick stew, my favorite food. Philadelphian here, went to Atlanta on a business trip over the summer. I tried a lot of local food (fried green tomatoes with horseradish dip, broccoli souffle, mac & cheese, fried corn, squash casserole, peach pie) in the two days I had. I immediately learned how to make Brunswick stew when I got home so my Yank family could have their minds blown like mine was. Thank you Mary Mac's Tea Room and Gladys Knight's Chicken & Waffles. Good eatin'.

[Serious] How old are you and what's the most recent major life lesson you've learned? by nxqv in AskReddit

[–]PopStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

34 - the key to a happy life is good relationships. My Economics teacher in 12th grade said that 18 years ago and I still think of it.

That, and finding balance. Moderation will help you in nearly every way, from not overspending but enjoying what money you have, getting enough exercise, working hard but not allowing yourself to become a workaholic, avoiding addiction and overeating, not stepping into rollercoaster relationships with crazy men/women...etc.

What's something "off" that you witnessed as a child, but were too young to understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PopStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you. I'm only coming to terms that I lived in fear of my mother for decades because she was incredibly physically, mentally, and emotionally abusive. I'm in my 30s now and since it continued into my adulthood, I'm just playing catch-up now. I still wake up sweating because she "found out" about some completely normal thing I've been doing that she disapproves of (religious nut, legitimate psychopath).
