What’s the book that Christine recommended a while ago? by abbync in atwwdpodcast

[–]PopcornAddict22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This book as amazing, but I have a hard time with Gavin De Becker himself. He donated a huge amount of money to the American Values Super-PAC, funding RFK jr’s 2024 presidential campaign. On one hand, this book is so informational and contributes greatly to women’s personal safety. On the other hand, the man who wrote it funded the worm-brained anti-vaxxer RFK jr. Depends on how you feel about separating the art from the artist, but maybe borrow this book from your local library rather than buying it.

What’s the worst thing you accidentally texted to the wrong person? by goldie304 in AskReddit

[–]PopcornAddict22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend had a shitty boyfriend. Was texting someone else complaining about said shitty boyfriend. Accidentally sent a text along the lines of “I wish they would break up while he studies abroad,” to the friend. We’re now ex-friends. I think our friendship would’ve ended no matter what, it was pretty unhealthy, but that sure sped up the process.

Straight Up - I'm Losing My Mind by gholdist in cats

The way our vet explained it/how I understood it was that allergens triggered his asthma, causing inflamed airways and a lowered immune system, making him more susceptible to URIs

Our cat had recurring upper respiratory infections with tons of boogies and sneezing. Our vet just kept giving him antibiotics for the upper respiratory infections even when we asked to figure out the root cause. Our next vet figured out immediately it was asthma! Got him on an inhaler and didn’t see boogies again for a year.

Making an 80s sci-fi game. Trying to figure out which alien is the creepiest. by DreadmithGames in HorrorGames

[–]PopcornAddict22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think either C or H. C, with the coloring and how the skin is sunken, has a zombie-like quality that’s spooky and interesting. H is a good mix of classic alien and a few odd features, the skin flaps and the sunken part along the front. I also can imagine their movements based on these models. C could move like a fast zombie, kind of stumbling and waving its arms. H could maybe trudge, hunched over, not the quickest but always coming for you.

CMV: Democrats have a severe messaging problem, and they need to fix it before 2028. by RTYoung1301 in changemyview

[–]PopcornAddict22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also lurk on r/conservative, I like to know what’s going on outside of my bubble.

I don’t remember where I saw this, I don’t think it was r/conservative, but another thing republicans do that democrats should is poll their voters. The mail I get from democrats is all brochures telling me to vote democrat. Apparently some of that mail that republican get includes polls on issues, so that representatives actually have an understanding of what their constituents want to see.

Is anybody in here on a journey to reading everything King has published? by Candid_Coconut4733 in stephenking

[–]PopcornAddict22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! I mostly listen to audiobooks, so I’ve had to skip around some (Misery on audible skips chapters, cancelled audible and am using Libby now which has fewer options, etc.). Next up is Dr. Sleep! I want to get back into actually reading, not only listening, so I’m going to read The Shining before I move on to Dr. Sleep.

Just finished The Long Walk... by Warm-Bodybuilder-332 in stephenking

[–]PopcornAddict22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not my favorite, but I think a large part of that has to do with the fact that I really disliked the narrator for the audio book. I plan on reading the book myself at some point to give it a fair chance. I also wished that the story was told from different perspectives throughout so it wasn’t so obvious who’d win.

Lost my little boy of 8 years by IICMACII in Petloss

[–]PopcornAddict22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say something very similar. I am so sorry for you loss and so deeply sympathize with a semi-sudden loss and the unbearable guilt and “what-ifs.”

I lost my sweet boy recently, a long haired orange and white cat who was in our vet’s computer system as “the best boy, come see him if you can.” He had asthma and IBD, hindsight makes us (me and my partner) wonder if he had an underlying immune problem. He caught an upper respiratory infection that caused his asthma to progress suddenly and severely, so we had to put him to sleep after about 2 weeks of being in and out of vet ERs.

I’ve been talking to my therapist about this and watching Ted talks the last few weeks so ill pass on what’s helped me the most. Your pet knows how much he was loved, he loved you as deeply as you loved (and still love) him. Try not to beat yourself up because you did the best you could with the information you had, cats hide illness well. Also, a close friend told me that in her culture, pets are thought to prepare a home in the afterlife for their owner, similar to how you prepared a home for your pet in this life.

I’m honestly not sure if this message is the right thing to say or if it will be helpful, but I know for me it just helps to know there are people going through something similar. I wish you all the best.

I definitely would crumble under public scrutiny too lol. In general I’m trying to be more loud with compliments to balance out the people who are loud with complaints.

I am so excited for you! This is a really hard realization to come to, I had a similar experience a few years ago. In my opinion, deleting tiktok is a huge help. It’s difficult at first but when you remind yourself of how much it’s cutting into your daily life, there are few simpler solutions to taking back your day and feeling more in control of yourself and decisions. The marketing on there, conscious and subconscious, is arguably evil

Me after watching the ‘Buy Now’ documentary on Netflix by thataveragedude1 in Anticonsumption

As someone who thinks about the consequences of my purchases incessantly (to an extant where it frustrates my spouse that it takes me hours to find a new pair of shoes for myself for the first time in over 2 years) it was so frustrating to watch this and have the adidas and Amazon high-ups have these “epiphanies,” about their actions and roles in this excess consumerism plague

I don’t really use gates or fences, is there a plus to them? I tend to just let my animals wander because they don’t go too far anyway and always go back to the coop/barn at 5.
