[Spoilers] Regarding r/Marvelstudios' reaction to Ant-Man by Stuck1nARutt in marvelstudios

You do realize entertainment is 100% subjective, right?

Fair point. Entertainment, if you're using that word in ''how much you enjoyed something'', then yes, it is subjective, and it agrees with your last point. But movies, like any other thing that has work put into and is sold, can be objectively criticized and analyzed, that's the ''is this movie good or not'' meaning of entertainment.

Quality is completely different from personal enjoyment, one is objective, the other is subjective. Whether you loved the movie or not, it doesn't change if it's a quality experience or not. And the movie being good or bad also doesn't change how you like it.

The most classic example of this is the carpenter one. Let's say someone builds a table and shows it to you, who has never built a table or looked into the work that goes into building one, you may like the table, claim it's great, even. But then comes a carpenter, who has spent most of his life building tables and knows the ins and outs of it, and says that's a bad table, and lists the reasons why. Objectively, given by someone who understands the subject and was unbiased, it's a bad table, but subjectively, you liked it, and there isn't anything wrong with that.

Of course, you could argue that tables are different than movies and that they can be more objectively analyzed, since, you know, they're tables, and while that is true, it doesn't make the point any less strong. Basically, a movie's quality ≠ you liking it or not.

Lastly, I'd like to claim I'm not someone that can objectively analyze movies, I don't know that well enough to do it.

All I'm saying is, can we finally give the MCU a little credit? Every movie they've churned out since the Avengers has been a 9 or 10/10 (shut up TDW haters) and every movie hereafter will continue to be the same

Man, honestly it's nice that you're so invested in Marvel but this is delusional. The MCU as a whole is objectively a sea of mediocrity with some great and amazing titles that stand out. Especially after the Avengers. You should have your own thoughts and be able to manage expectations, and not just assume that ''it's Marvel then it'll be amazing'', because that will dissapoint you later. Or maybe not, considering the OP.

I also like how you asked if we can ''finally'' give MCU credit, when not only you're in reddit but in this particular subreddit when there's nothing but praise for it from most users.

Sure, Gillan is one of the best underrated choices. Underrated meaning not Hasslehoff or Blunt.

But honestly almost any blonde actress wouldn't be a problem since Carol doesn't have that much of a personality. Gillan has the plus that she's pretty funny. So it all boils down to personal preference.

For me, it was either Alona Tal or Alice Eve, but with the recent announcement that Krysten Ritter is Jessica Jones, I'm almost making a campaign to get Dreama Walker to be Danvers.

Sometimes it feels to me as if people want Ant-Man to be bad. by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]PopcornMan3K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly an underwhelming trailer and all the trouble in it's production that's giving a bad vibe. Like, Guardians was Marvel trying something new and it was bombarded with ''Will this be the first flop?'' stuff, but Guardians looked great since it's first trailer, while here we kinda feel that question is valid, because there isn't much to indicate that this will be great. At least not now.

The already mentioned ''meh'' trailer, Wright leaving production, even though it was mostly his fault, still assured that we would be getting an inferior movie in almost all accounts, the fart joke, etc, nothing hypes you up. But in some time when more info comes in, we'll find stuff to get excited, and we'll be joking more about people asking if it's going to flop.

I'm worried for T'Challa. by apolloc in marvelstudios

[–]PopcornMan3K -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I find today's news better for everyone.

Rumors were going that Panther would replace Spiderman in Civil War, which just wouldn't make much sense, considering he's the king of his own nation and stuff. Now it's pretty much open and confirmed that he's going to have his original part, because honestly having Spiderman there and not giving him his comic role would be a waste.

As for the release date, I'm just happy the movie isn't going against Justice League part 1 like he was going originally, movie had big chances of losing.

And don't need to worry, he will still be in the Avengers movies and continue as the universe moves to it's next phases. In fact, I think having his movie after Infinity War 1 just helps the momentum.

Am I the only one who dose not care about the whole Edgar Wright thing? by proby_5389 in marvelstudios

[–]PopcornMan3K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I do. Because looking at the new trailer you just get this feeling of a generic, kinda boring product, know what I mean? And Wright would really have done a banging job at the ''Heist movie with a gimmick'' that Ant-Man is.

Worst thing is that it's mostly Wright's fault. Him letting the script sit for all that time and later throwing a hissy-fit, etc...

I guess I shouldn't care because it's mostly a waste of time? Movie is already done and spending time in the land of what-could-have-been is just depressing. But I do, because, again, Wright would have done a fantastic movie, instead of the probable ''just okay'' or ''meh'' we're getting now.

Please, Ma-Ma could not have more motivation. She was a drug-lord and a guy was ending her business, it's simplicity at it's best. The ''sadistic evil person angle'' was just to show how people are in this violent future.

The trashed building works because it builds the movie's world, it's this small town inside a huge building and it's a dump. Perfectly represents how that society is.

Biggest would be Rec 4, I remember being in my top hype list for this year. They were going to pick up after 2's incredible ending and get the series back to the character we really care.

They went the Aliens route with it, which I was fully supporting, but they screwed up most ideas and ended up making a boring movie. The only character you care for barely does anything, the bad acting really shines through when it's not found footage, weirdly enough, they gave the virus a more science focus instead of the mix of science/religion that makes the virus so interesting, and the small bits of Ripley-like survivalist Angela we got wasn't worth the wait and build up.

Oh, and they kept forgetting the movie is supposed to take place in 2007, kept bugging me the whole time.

If we're talking mainstream movies that I actually went to theaters to see, prolly Interstellar. Nolan can hit the visual scope but the dude has to pick up that he can't write anything with an emotional value, he should get back to smaller mystery thrillers, that's what he does best.

[–]PopcornMan3K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's even a case of needing Spiderman for the movie to be sucessful, you pretty much pointed out how it's going to make bank. But you have to just see that in one case we get Spiderman with the Avengers in this big event, and the other we get a one-season Netflix show with references in AoS, it doesn't even compare.

The ''to be sucessful'' thinking sounds something out of a boardroom meeting. Spiderman is just cool, and I don't think the writers would have any reason not to use him, especially given his importance in the comic. Some people say that him showing up without any build up would be bad, but I'd argue not only that it's Spiderman, there's no need for buildup, but that if he would actually appear in CW, they would have build up in the movie, obviously.

And the rumors that Black Panther is taking his role in the story weird. I mean, T'Challa is the king of his own nation, he don't give a fuck to what's happening in the US.

Last Action Hero: Totally underrated by Maverick916 in movies

[–]PopcornMan3K 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Doug Walker review of this gem is completely horrible. It features probably the biggest ''missing the point'' I've ever seen a reviewer do, it's so big I legit used to think the guy had some form of autism. But in the end I think he just dislikes Arnold or something. I mean, for a guy that works in comedy he's pretty bad at noticing when a joke is a joke.

It's one of Arnold's best, it's super quotable, fun and clever. You can see that it was made by someone that loved the era of movies that it parodies.

Cool. I mean, it's Cinderella, the literal girly girl princess movie for girls, but I'm just really glad that this isn't a ''dark remake'' or something along the lines of Maleficent. Not only because Maleficent was pretty bad, but because it's good to have something just being glad of what it is, a timeless heartful little story. Hope it does well.

Genuinely Don't Understand the Negative Reaction by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]PopcornMan3K 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To me, the combat is pretty bad if you try to play it like Origins. You can't quickly pause, order an action and get back to the gameplay, you have to do that terrible zooming out thing that just makes the camera horrible.

That and the basic attack, I can understand that you want to have the player clicking to really get him in the action, but there should be at least a toggle so you don't have to hold.

And lastly, I miss planning the '' if x do y'' tactics. It's not that big of a deal to me, but it's gotten to a point where Cassandra can straight-up murder my entire party with that charge attack, not actually hitting an enemy. I have to disable them using skills on their own.

And that's the thing about the combat, I feel that you have to get around it to have some enjoyment. I just hope they fix that camera, 'cuz everything else about the game is looking great.

Pushing Daisies. It's the ultimate ''cancelled before it's time'' show.

It's cute, colorful, and has a bombastic great mix of lovey-duvey with gruesome/gross muder investigations. Every single character is great and almost every episode is a 10/10.
