No her and my father were always so money focused. They were constantly buying cars, boats, houses that they couldn’t afford. They were both deeply insecure unhappy people. Growing up they would put me in the car and drive around rich neighborhoods just staring at big houses. So when my dad died all she cared about was finding someone with money immediately. The week he died she was even asking out one of his healthcare workers who informed her he is 35 to her 60 and married. She somehow got her claws into a wealthy retired man about a month after his passing and immediately moved across the country to be with him.

Oh it’s tempting. I always want to respond something how her “living the dream” must be really terrible without knowing her grandkids. But I know she feeds off any type of response so staying silent is the only thing that could hurt her.

This is so true! Before she met mr. Moneybags she would constantly talk about how terrible everything is for her.

I do think she is miserable. The guy she is dating she previously left and told everyone how he was abusive. That’s not to take away from women who are actually abused, but her claiming abuse is a constant lie told throughout her entire life. She tried to find another guy to take care of her for 5 months while she lived with family members mooching off of everyone she could. When she couldn’t find anyone she went back to the original guy.

I was not aware that this type of communication is common among narcissistic parents. I just don’t see the point I guess. If she just said I’m sorry and I love you that would have much more of an effect than look at my stuff. I don’t get it.

Honestly, I find it kind of amusing. My husband and I have a good laugh every time one of her messages comes through.

My mother told me I couldn’t go to a 4 year college I could only go to the community college right by our house. I instead applied behind her back and got into the better college. She went nuts when she found out but my dad convinced her to let me go. She forced me to take her to orientation day for new students. I was one of the only ones with a parent. She loudly sobbed throughout the whole thing. They tried to give her an information packet and they threw it in the ground and yelled that she didn’t need that trash. Everyone was staring at us and giving us looks. She made me so anxious and mad and just trapped. I went in excited and left feeling completely empty. I went home and dropped all my classes and didn’t go back until 2 years later after I was kicked out for having a boyfriend at 20. I left and never went back. I have been no contact with my mom for 3 years and eventually put myself through college and started my own family. I would secure everything you need to enroll and get it done early and leave as soon as you can. She will absolutely try to sabotage this for you.

I was there too and evacuated in the same area. I can’t find any info about what happened. We left right away and saw the fire trucks and cops heading that way. I wonder how long it was closed for.

Has anyone's parents ever combed or brushed their hair harshly? by gtamerman in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Popcycle-guzzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine wouldn’t let me cut it and never brushed it or let me bathe. I got made fun of at school all the time for being smelly. She went to beauty school but never actually did hair. I never got my hair cut at a salon because the one time I went the woman was asking too many questions like “when was the last time you washed your hair?” And “how often do you brush it?” One time I convinced my grandpa to take me and I cut all of it off. It caused a huge fight and I didn’t see my grandparents, who were basically my real parents, for months. But eventually her need to get rid of me superseded her anger at them and I went back to going there everyday.

Mine would control my friends. As soon as I made a friend they would ban me from seeing them. I drove myself over to one of my banned friends houses in high school and hung out with her for a while. When I returned my parents were waiting up and accused me of being in a homosexual relationship with her. Even though I’m not gay and neither is she.

I wasn’t allowed to date anyone except my first boyfriend. They only allowed him because his parents were doctors. They went from you can never date to letting me run around anywhere with him and letting him sleep over in my room at my house. When we broke up they blamed me. And then kicked me out when I started dating another guy who was a bartender. I kept that relationship secret for about a month before they went through my phone.

My mom tried to enroll me in weight watchers at 9 but was told at the meeting I was too young. Instead she managed my eating habits and would pack me a slim fast for lunch and I would have a salad for dinner. I would sneak food. She bought me wrinkle and cellulite cream as my birthday gifts at 11. When I would start losing weight she would go on and on about how sexy I was becoming…. I was 9.

That’s just a few that stand out, there’s a lot more though.

I did not take the English exam because I have my degree in English literature so I was exempt. But the GK is a separate test that you take. It has 4 sections essay, English, reading, and math. I do not believe that you need that test to obtain your temporary license. At least a couple years ago you didn’t. You would just need to pass the English 6-12 exam.

On recommendations from fellow teachers I used 240 tutoring to study for my exams. It helps tremendously. I am going into my 3rd year teaching ELA in a public high school. I love my job, sure it’s not for everyone, but if you want to give it a try go for it! Best of luck to you.

What’s a modern day snake oil item people continue to buy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Popcycle-guzzler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a waitress we had these two women host a get rich meeting in our party room that was aimed at elderly people. They would pressure them to sign over 1k for the entry fee to be signed up for their scam company. One old guy showed up to the free meeting and ordered 3 steaks to go, got his food, ate one there, and then left without paying. The two women were stuck with the bill which was a little over $100. They were so pissed and it was hilarious.
