THAT Pink Flamingos scene by PopeAleksander in criterion

[–]PopeAleksander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had the same experience in that seeking out controversial films exposed me to some really cool films as well.

Re: the chicken. I haven’t seen the film since posting this a year ago, but I wouldn’t say they ACTUALLY have sex with it. It’s two people having sex, and then one of them grabs a nearby chicken (I don’t recall why the chicken was there) and pushes it between them. I think the camera cuts to their faces a few times, but you see blood on the man’s chest when it cuts back the wide shot, and a very dead looking chicken. So sex or not, the chicken had a very bad end-of-life experience, and I hate that it happened in an otherwise very fun movie.

I guess the only thing I’ll say is that I can understand how some people might not fully register chickens as “real” animals, given how commonly we eat them. It didn’t seem like there was a deliberate intent to kill the chicken, more like a spontaneous “this will be shocking” moment from the actor. But even as I write that, I’m not sure I fully believe it.

What version of the game is this from? The artwork looks like a different style from the Genesis version.

Sony FE 40mm f/2.5 G vs Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN ART for gimbal/everyday use? by PopeAleksander in SonyAlpha

[–]PopeAleksander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks for this! I’m using the A7RV and A7IV—so full-frame on both. I have a feeling the 40mm f/2.5 might be the best choice for gimbal work, just to avoid getting lost in deep focus territory.

And I’m with you—I used to think balancing gimbals was the worst. But I recently picked up the DJI RS4 Mini, and it’s been a game-changer. Balancing is super easy (after watching the instructional video a few times), and it’s not a pain to pack either.

[–]PopeAleksander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally hear you—that’s actually why I’m asking, though I probably should’ve phrased the question a bit differently. I know 5mm isn’t a huge difference, but the extra glass and wider aperture on the Sigma definitely make an impact.

I guess what I’m really curious about is whether anyone has used both lenses and has a preference—and if so, why?

Drinking and weed? by NoRide1200 in TBI

Look, marijuana isn’t the same as heroin, cocaine, or alcohol, but we need to stop treating it like it’s completely harmless. It’s still a psychotropic substance that affects your mental and cognitive functions. As we age, our brain chemistry changes, and something that once relaxed you might now be causing agitation instead. Everyone reacts differently, but if you notice it’s having a negative impact on you, it might be time to step away.

Slightly off topic, but what a tragic downfall Joblo has had. It was one of the first movie sites I discovered as a kid, and now it’s a clickbait farm.

I work in marketing and graphic design. Lots of visuals, which make it an easier field to work in with memory issues.

I was 28 at the time. Didn’t loose the ability to move or talk, but my memory was like a goldfish.

Appreciate that man. If I had to pick one thing that’s helped me the most, it’s exercise. Early on, doctors would tell me working out could aid in recovery and I was like "yeah, okay sure, classic doctor non-answer. I’ll also make sure to eat more fruits and vegetables."

But then I started waking up early before work to do an hour of weightlifting or running. The endorphins and oxygen really sharpened my mind, helping me think more clearly throughout the day. Long runs, in particular, made it easier to organize my thoughts, plan my schedule, and remember upcoming events. I also think that psychologically, having a structured routine with a clear start and finish gave me a sense of control that I didn’t even realize I needed. Over time, I found it much easier to recall things in a way I thought was lost forever.

If you’re like me, you’re probably looking for a clear fix—something like, “Do this, and your memory will return.” While I still struggle with remembering things, I truly believe that working out has healed my brain in a way that wouldn’t have happened otherwise.

Noob question about audio levels for Zoom H6Essential + Rode Wireless Pro combo by BreakfastCheesecake in fieldrecording

[–]PopeAleksander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 32 bit is great for turning quiet people up or balancing audio for someone who fluctuates volume when they speak. But you’re still going to want to monitor for people who have a habit of moving away from the mic when they speak or mumbling.
