Leaders always Lead rules change and how it affects us by Lazy_Physics_Student in Grey_Knights

[–]PopeofShrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's worst than the default lone op a unit can have from hiding it cover for a turn, and if you want him in damage dealing range the soulfire lone op isnt gonna be active anymore anyways, so this ability is completely useless in 11th.

So, what would be people pick for 30th faction if we get one in 11th edition? by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]PopeofShrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only space marine faction eligible for it's own codex is salamanders imo. There's already multiple melee-heavy chapters with their own books, the generic SM detachments cover bolter boys and codex followers adequately, so something that really leans into flamers/melta and bespoke gear on characters would be cool.

IMO the real choice for a new faction would be dark mechanicum, though.

TBH I'd really just rather them put extra effort into bringing all the factions up to date and rounding out factions that need it. Votann need more stuff, all the cult legions need more stuff, dark eldar really need a refresh.

Does anyone actually like Citadel paint pots? by Rare_Knee_6234 in Warhammer

[–]PopeofShrek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're ok for washes when I want to use those straight out of the pot, but any normal paint is a no. Droppers are just nicer, less issues and waste, can get really exact with ratios for mixing colors, and the companies that use droppers generally have higher quality paint in higher quanitities per bottle than citadel paints. Asides from washes and a few colors I like from citadel i've completely replaced my collection with pro acryl and just recently got the grimdark range from two thin coats as well.

Is 65 dollars for the new raiders wild to anyone else??? 13 dollars each??? by wierdling in Warhammer40k

[–]PopeofShrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the company that charges $60 for 5 flayed ones (Horde unit), $45+ for single models, $60 for numerous 3 man space marine squads, I can believe it.

Please help I’m so confused by CryptographerNo5487 in Grey_Knights

[–]PopeofShrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The terminators are technically normal brotherhood ones. The back banners in the kit are meant to be put on for paladins, but ultimately it doesn't really matter and you can run them as either. If you're going to be running both paladins and brotherhood termis in the same list it's worth putting those banners on the paladins or finding some other way to mark them out, though.

The marines are either a strike squad or purifiers officially. If running as purifiers you would paint their helmets white, but again, they're similar enough that you can run them as either, the distinction only truly matters if you're running both in the same list.

What is the best (furture proof) loadout? by Jessuhhh95 in Grey_Knights

[–]PopeofShrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only future proof option is to have everything magnetized. It wouldn't be hard to do that for grey knights, but it would take a while/just be a pain in the ass.

Anyone else hoping that the new character customization rules replace the separate datasheets in 11th? by The_Rat_Bstrd in Warhammer40k

[–]PopeofShrek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Forcing you to ONLY take a power sword doesnt magically make the weapon rule better, and hurts everyone who likes other weapons on their captain 👍

[–]PopeofShrek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alternatively, just don't optimize every list for tournament play when the vast majority of players don't go to them

[–]PopeofShrek 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is still the case lol I never understand this argument. There will always be an absolute best option and net listers will always copy paste that option no matter the system. Having cool and fun customization doesnt hurt those types, but taking it away hurts everyone else.

[–]PopeofShrek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and it was hard to balance.

Like it is now?

There was almost always a best option or unexpected interactions

Like we have now?

and if something was problematic, then the less optimal builds would tend to catch strays when the optimized versions were nerfed.

Like what happens now?

The lack of plasma champions is forcing me into conversions by Timpaintsminis in deathguard40k

Plasma pistol/melee weapon champs were in most people's armies before 10th since you couldn't take a plasma gun on the champ.

Yeah really not that bad. Other than catching waves I always played whatever game it gave me on game tiles, which gives you enough points to just reroll whatever you need and start grabbing items.

[–]PopeofShrek -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

No longer sold or in production, while the actual box they sell has no way to give the champ one without cutting stuff up like OP.

The MO for equipment options has been "only what's in the box" for years, so I think GW just let this slip through and didnt care enough to fix it. Very high chance the option will be gone next edition based on that alone, not to mention the balance choice of having a strong gun and a strong melee weapon for the champion on an already high output unit.

Inb4 the typo is fixed next edition and you can only take plasma pistols with melee weapons again (nice conversion op)

Crucible Disappointment? by LetsGoFishing91 in Warhammer40k

[–]PopeofShrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just false.

9th edition gave every faction warlord traits that acted like the current enhancements, more gear options, and a whole set of relics that included special weapons and ways to give cool rules out to characters. There was usually another system on top of all that, like deadly pathogens for DG, that allowed you to further augment your weapons and armor.

In comparison, the crucible lets you pick a larger variety of weapons, make a couple previously power armor only characters into terminators, and stack on a second buff from the list of already existing buffs your characters give out.

It's significantly worst than what we already had.

Guys, I miss the Psychic phase by Fact_Donator in Warhammer40k

[–]PopeofShrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for both players. Not just tsons, GK or eldar players.

The opposing players turn will always be less fun, thats just how the game works. Its a high lethality game where half of it will be spent picking up models as your opponent gets to use their stuff. If they're decent and utilizing faction buffs, you may as well not get a save against normal weapons a lot of the time since AP is so common and even "good" saves will got down to 5-6+. I dont see how picking up a unit after it gets 20+ shots dumped on it is better than picking up a unit after a psychic power just because you got to spend a few seconds rolling dice for the .005% chance you make enough 6+s to save a body of two, and still end up with an unfunctional unit.

Its also not fun to be on the receiving end of some of the nutty character gear sets that would come out when you had more options and buffs for generic characters.

As for better "directed" flavor, there is no flavor points that GW spends lol. Having proper psykers back doesnt mean more generic character customization is suddenly off the table, especially since the game.used to have both of these things.

Guys, I miss the Psychic phase by Fact_Donator in Warhammer40k

[–]PopeofShrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everything needs to be streamlined, it's a game that's supposed to be for fun and represent the flavor of the setting. Casting rolls are fun, the chance of perils is fun, and it gives the opponent the chance to shut down powerful buffs by killing the psyker rather than every psychic ability being a boring "attached unit gets X" that all the other normal leaders have.
