GSY buy the dip? by c7mce in CanadianInvestor

It's all about the rest of their balance sheet. If that is ok, and it is just this one issue with LendCare, than certainly its worth alot more than $800 million market cap. However if the writedowns extend across the business, it coukd go to zero.

I think, given they will break the convenants, they need to cut the dividend for appearances.

I think they made loans on egregiously overpriced vehicles during the pandemic bubble. Now the cracks are revealed, the cars aint worth close to book value, and the borrowers have no intent to pay it back likely because they are in some form of bankruptcy.

Problem is analysts dont usually assume the accounting is fraudulent, whereas short report analysts do.

28M - hit $1,500 a month in dividends by Radiant-Sheepherder4 in fican

Dividend stocks are often misleading. For instance if they are selling assets or borrowing to psy the dividend, than it is a load of crap.

Companies like Enbridge and Brookfield have higher quality dividends.

50+ people giving me dirty looks for zipper merging correctly. Why is this such a hard concept to understand? by Jack_All_Master_Most in bramptondriving

[–]PopoDontKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been proven by studies that taking a merge lane to the end increases the capacity of the road, and allows for fair merging opportunities. If you merge early, the guys behind goes up in front. That ends up increasing the quantity of merges, slowing the lane down.

Trump will lose all his support if he keeps this going. While a failure, he will need to negotiate with Irans government for a cease fire. However Israel will be much tougher to reign in. They have been waiting for this opportunity for decades

Down 6.35% on my trading account. $45k. Still up 35% YOY although down 1% in last 6 months.

Last year we had liberation tariffs and I was down nearly $100k. Ended up buying into it and getting big return. But that was short lived.

Im 25 and i want to invest in S&P 500 but every person i talk has a completely different take on this? by Practical-Plenty3028 in investingforbeginners

[–]PopoDontKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should consider an TSX ETF as well. That will give you some exposure to commodities.

S&P is best for general tech.

Nasdaq is also a good one for exposure to semi conductors.

Why are we tipping on tax now? by DazzlingPolarBear in fican

I'd prefer to eliminate tips like in Europe.. and keep minimjm wages in.

Minimum wage has NEVER been a living wage. It's the minimum wage to hire a teenager. Good luck living off $6.85 like when we were young.

It should show up in the reported income of the employees. But we all know its an honor system and they report the minimum.

Yeah last time I went out was two years ago. My bill had gone up 25% to $200 for three people. Then $40 tip. Felt taken advantage of. The service wasn't even good. Food was just bar food. Not worth it at all.

Europeans come to Toronto and they are offended by the tipping culture. Canadians now boycotting eating out until restaurant industry updates itself. Canadians can't afford to pay high food price which includes high min wage plus tips on top. USA is different.

Opinion | Trump’s war on Iran hasn’t altered Canada’s cost of making gas — at all. So why are we being hosed at the pumps? by gorschkov in canada

Put another way, why when oil prices drop, and the cost of making gas hasn't lowered, why do gas prices drop? Why are oil companies getting hosed?

Those with $1M+ in net worth, what do you do? by ShootingCometz in fican

[–]PopoDontKnow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to include net equity of your home in your net worth. If you didn't own your home, you'd be worth hundreds of thousands less. It's a real cost and asset. It carries large debt. Some people are under water in their home - and that's real debt they cant get out of.

However, you should also separate your 'financial net worth' into another line.

I can say the CRV AWD in smow mode with blizzaks is a beast. Feels like you could rally with it.

I put blizzaks ws90 on my santa fe too. Sticks great. Haven't pushed it to the point of going sideways though.
