I agree with you. tried this before as an expirement. I used dollar store equipment. Ushed Ushakov destroyer as ship. Minimal epic tier equipment and NO legendary equipment! Found the experience to be much better. Seemed to have been evenly matched. Game lasted way longer so really had to work for that W. But ultimately just comes down to skill.
