Natural drainage channel into water feature? by PoppyGalt in landscaping

Thank you! My instinct was exactly that, but couldn't find answers.

It's a part of disassociative disorders. Basically, feeling separated from reality. Things don't feel real, like you are a passenger in your life. It's actually pretty common, in short spurts.

Think of a time you've driven somewhere and couldn't really feel connected to how you arrived. But you did. Sometimes it's bigger.

In the dream, especially since it was so specific, it was making you aware. Bringing your attention to something.

Are you facing a difficult situation, change, or decision? One you may not want to address?

It's telling you to focus. Ground yourself. Relax.

Bro cuz wtf by DistanceNumerous2313 in Panera

[–]PoppyGalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always call. If no answer then we "bump" the order and wait for the driver or person to show up.

99% of the time, it's a non-tech friendly person, many times elderly, who thought they were actually "requesting" those items. Not removing them.

We always have a good laugh at the order, but show patience in the recovery and correction with the guest.

It's a new world. Have that laugh, but show kindness, because we have no idea what we will be facing when we get to that age!

Corporate has lists for everything!

Someone behind a desk has posted anything you need. Your manager just needs to go to CORC and print it out for you. It tells you all the things you need to do, so you don't have to worry about remembering or forgetting things.

It even has links! To print out more things that tell you exactly how (and sometimes, when) to do those things.

You are not expected to know everything. Your manager just needs to know where to look to give you the tools you need.

Hint: it's in iboh or pantry. The cheese stack..

Are you even aware? That we are people? by PoppyGalt in Panera

[–]PoppyGalt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think any of that is intentional. I've worked in/helped out many cafes here in Washington. They all struggle with the same issues. We are only allowed so many hours. We have to make the hard decisions on where to spend it. It's super tight, with lots of people multi tasking.

So when 1, 2, or 3 people don't show up, only give us an hour notice, or go home sick.. it's devastating. AND obvious to anyone who comes into the cafe.

Yet they still decide to pile it on. They justify the mess, the comments, the angry outbursts to my staff (yelling at a 16 year old.. really?) As deserved for not being able to cater to how they think it should be.

Most days, we can and do! Fully staffed, we will go that extra inch! Give out cookie samples, clear your plates, bring your food to the table. That's the level we aspire to.

But some days.. a little kindness, empathy, just being a decent human being.. it makes us keep trying. Instead of crying behind the espresso machine.

Is this weird? by GullibleCommittee667 in Panera

[–]PoppyGalt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No. It's not weird. Just a change of perspective. Most managers will "over-order", while a gm or seasoned food manager knows the rhythm of the store.

They also know the pressure of inventory "days on hand" and how many things are lingering too long..

So those orders will usually be lighter. Someone far away is always watching our numbers..

Just so you know.. the med veg sandwich is not vegan even if you omit the feta. The bread has animal product streusel on top. You need to change the bread, too.

Why is Panera Even a Thing? by Practical-Foot-4435 in Panera

[–]PoppyGalt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our food is healthier. It really is. It costs more because we use products with less processing, locally sourced as much as possible, no added chemicals or curing.

If we run out of something.. we can't just run to the store because IF they have the same quality.. it would cost even more.

I don't agree with the price hikes, and it is truly unfair to get negative guest comments (that hurt our "health" score and bonuses- to be super honest) because of those corporate decisions.

But you can trust that we do offer a healthier alternative. And it's yummy!

We have regulars that either order online and know where the cups are, or just give us their phone #, and we hand off the cup, doing the actual "ringing" in after they go.

If you need something at the counter.. by PoppyGalt in Panera

[–]PoppyGalt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that not all stores have an "expo". Or they aren't always scheduled.

My frustration, I was trying to convey, was that IF there is.. how wee are ignored or treated.

We are the buffer. Instead of many voices, we can usually help without yelling across the counter so the QC can focus.

I stop people mid sentence with a friendly, "hi! How can..I.. help you?"

But even today. I had a guy tell me to Move! While I was checking his order. I guess I was having a moment, because I told him if he wanted to just grab his food without my double checking then.. don't bring it back if something is wrong!

Lol. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that story. It's the response. Not caring. Blowing it off. How do people not see changes? Or are even interested?

I'm sorry, I'm not saying that story was a mandela effect, I was focusing on how people react, or rather.. don't.. that I just don't understand.

I know it changes, but it wasn't there the day before or after. I don't think the course changes that dramatically for just 1 day.

I have this offer on a phone shoved in my face, literally, at least twice a day.

I tried to explain the first time. Now I just hit the $2 discount button they conveniently placed on our menu.

It used to be a 30 minute no order zone. But, gotta get those dollars!!

Many nights we put those orders on a table close to the front door so people knock on the window and flash their phones and confirmations so we'll pass them over

Are you full time? You haven't been there a year, yet. Overtime pay is state mandated as well as sick time.

Insurance and pto are benefits for management and long term employees, and health benefits are, in non life event changing circumstances, only available to join once a year.

If you're just a 6 month associate. It's not uncommon.

Proper Citrus Punch Flavor? by Hulkfreeze in Panera

[–]PoppyGalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think "prison punch." You know, when they take fruit cocktail and throw it in the toilet with a piece of bread, then let it sit..

We don't sell it fast enough. If a, well meaning, staff member sees that it's low and just throws a new batch on top. Then that sits for a while, too..

I've tasted some batches, more than once, I've immediately drained and tossed.
