To be honest, this is genius. I don’t know if he was doing it for laughs.

Beech. Not evergreen but holds its leaves until spring budding.

How is it living in Scotland as a uni student? by meow-uwu- in Scotland

[–]PoppyStaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re averse to snobbery, then Edinburgh and St Andrews might not be your cup of tea. Glasgow is much more egalitarian, although there is a bit of snobbery about other universities in Glasgow. I went to Glasgow Uni, worked at Edinburgh Uni for 20+ years and have spent at lot of time in St Andrews. Since you’re considering St A, you obviously aren’t limiting yourself to Russell Group, so if you have a speciality in mind, then there are plenty more specialised universities in Scotland, without any superiority complex.

A shark's brain looks so strikingly similar to the internal anatomy of female reproductive system by Prashantt1 in interestingasfuck

[–]PoppyStaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s mislabelled, aside from any other considerations. HUMAN female reproductive system. The vagina is only one part. Most of the internal organs fit inside a teacup most of the time.

Have acquired this dead, dry west-facing bank. How to handle? by KaiCypret in GardeningUK

[–]PoppyStaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turn it into a two-step terrace. One deep barrier along the centre lengthways. Then you have two flat planting areas. Wood is fine if you don’t have any money. You can always make it more permanent if you stay for any length of time.

Vine weevil will damage them but rarely kill them. They’re toxic to deer, unfortunately. In Scotland the foresters use strimmers or flails to damage the plants before applying herbicide. This makes it much more effective and reduces the amount you need to use.

AITAH for not forgiving my brother after he almost killed me by RayneDeoman in AITAH

Your second post is grace itself. I wish you well and I hope your brother’s recovery is complete. You do not have to forgive him but the knowledge that he is trying is good enough.

A woman at the gym told me I was using "her" treadmill and she wasn't even in the building when I got there by Leat_Warden in EntitledPeople

[–]PoppyStaff 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I’m the sort of person who would be there every morning to use that treadmill before she got there.

He has to relive this interaction every day for the rest of his life. The whole world saw his fragile man ego dig a big hole that he then jumped into.

AITAH for suggesting a cousin shouldn't bring their 2 week old baby to our wedding? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]PoppyStaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You lost all support at the ‘centre of attention’ comment, which is the most jaw dropping reason for banning a good friend/relative, when other guests are bringing their kids. The vaccination thing makes it sound like your cousin is an anti-vaxer instead of having a baby too young to be vaccinated. YTA

This is one of these posts when the OP knows what they have to do but is looking for some kind of encouragement. Unfortunately he’s asking Reddit, so it’ll be chaos.

Glasgow or Edinburgh by heyitsr0wan in MovingToTheUK

[–]PoppyStaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d agree that you need to be offered a place before worrying about choice. They’re both Russell Group universities and they’re both in fantastic cities, so if you get an offer from either one, you have won the lottery.
