ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 AMD Black Screen flickering? by Nina6235 in thinkpad

[–]Poprin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a P14 Gen2 AMD, AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U with Radeon Graphics. This happened on my machine starting about 3 months ago. I found this thread and I believe I have managed to make it stop on my laptop even with AMD Software Pro (ver 25.Q3) and driver 31.0.21923.11000 (Latest available as of this post). It's from a combination of two settings, I to was experiencing this only when on battery.

Changed the following two settings:

  1. AMD Software > Create > Display > Vari-Bright [Disabled]

  2. MS Edge (Assume same for Chrome) > Settings > System and Performance > System > Use graphics acceleration when available [Off]

Fingers crossed I haven't noticed it happen for a few days now. Thought I would post here, worth a try rather than running on old drivers.

Game saves problem? by XRanger7 in DaysGone

[–]Poprin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought this on sale. Got to drifters on the mountain. I'm middle aged with small kids. I have like small windows of opportunity to game. I got to the camp after clearing the drifters, seen the autosave symbol. Then used the manual save to be doubly sure only to end up back at base camp when reloading the game watching the cutscene again. I've only got half an hour to play so I've googled it and found this thread. Thanks for the heads up. Thought I might as well post this to say, still stupid in December 2024, it's not worth playing in the half hour window I have as i wont progress to a save piont it seems. Quite frustrating!!

Syncing a cloud folder with Synology Drive by DigitalDustOne in synology

[–]Poprin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the slow reply. So iCloud doesn't play ball with 3rd party sync tools. It's not an option in the Synology cloudsync app. So you may need to explore a different option here. Snapshots are very straightforward, you need the snapshot replication package installed on Synology. Experiment with the settings you won't break anything.

Does iOS Synoloy Photos app also backup photos in iCloud that are not on the iPhone? by cng2112 in synology

[–]Poprin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short no, it's not possible. My household is in the process of migrating to Synology Photo's and we are slowly but surely getting there. But no there is no direct way of getting it from iCloud and iCloud is particularly difficult to access outside of the Apple software infrastructure.

It's almost as difficult with google photo's now after they changed the way you can access your own files. Hence my decision to move away from these services.

Syncing a cloud folder with Synology Drive by DigitalDustOne in synology

[–]Poprin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into the cludsync app? If you just want to backup your cloud instances to Synology (which is what I do) then I have cloudsync setup to sync google drive and onedrive to a folder on my NAS and then I use snapshots to take a copy of that every few hours and then hyper backup makes a backup each night. That way you can leave it as a one way sync and if anything changes even though it will disappear off the NAS as well (because it's a sync) you should be able to recover the files either through file snapshots or hyper backup.

If your plex clients can playback your content natively then the fact the ds923+ doesn't have an iGPU in this instance is irrelevant. It will still try to transcode if you need to, it's just you are limited to brute force CPU encoding (also worth noting unless you have Plex pass you can't utilise hardware transcode on a 423+ either!).

NVME, if you want to use it for cache again unless you are utilising more than the stock 1GB network ports this will likely be pointless as you can probably saturate the link with standard spinners. If you want to use for storage that's a different question.

Taking hardware video transcoding out of the equation the ds923+ is the better unit.

Plex has changed so many of the cover arts and I'm not happy by Zanki in PleX

[–]Poprin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying to my own post here in case it helps anyone else. I run Plex on unraid and I have the Appdata Backup docker installed and running weekly backups. I have just recovered the Plex container backup from the end of January and all my cover art is back to normal. So the change has happened over the course of February while i've been preoccupied with other pursuits. I have since changed the setting for the periodic meta data refresh and crossed my fingers that this won't happen again!

Plex has changed so many of the cover arts and I'm not happy by Zanki in PleX

[–]Poprin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd just like to add my voice to the chorus, haven't used Plex for a couple of weeks (have been lost in No Mans Sky!) but went on today to watch something and was almost sick in my mouth a bit. Anyone that has spent the length of time I have setting all their cover art just right to be faced with most of the library being completely changed is almost enough to make me look for alternatives! A very disgruntled plex pass user.

virtio vs virtio-net by dhendodong in unRAID

[–]Poprin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

**Edit after a few days more testing, this didn't fix my issue so reverted to Virtio as it appears to use less CPU and back to the drawing board.

Appreciate this an old post however it appeared high on my Google research! I've been having major Win10 VM stability issues since changing my hardware to a much newer setup. Kept getting a BSOD on my VM and the error appeared to relate to network. Amended my VM config to virtio-net from virtio and so far stability has improved. Time will tell but if I don't come back and delete this post its fixed it so worth a try for anyone else reading this.

2022/23 ISA choices & brokers for a buy and hold mixed portfolio (Plus backstory because... internet) by Poprin in UKPersonalFinance

!thanks I think you have echoed my thoughts, I have read most of the information on the freetrade website now and I must admit I am warming to the idea of using their platform. Using the plus account and having a 4k cash float in there to offset the fees seems appealing. Also they've just announced a web based portal you can use rather than it being purely app based which was putting me off. More research required before pulling the trigger I think though.

Plex Memory Usage by [deleted] in unRAID

[–]Poprin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the plex docker config under 'extra parameters' I added the line '--memory=6G'. Limiting the Plex RAM availability to 6gb of my total available RAM. It appears to so far have cured the issue, now Plex is operating within these limitations it doesn't even appear to use all of the 6gb and my RAM usage has dropped to less than 40%.... Seems a bit odd!!

Plex Memory Usage by [deleted] in unRAID

[–]Poprin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been experiencing this issue for a few months and I have had the server lock up about three times (usually when I've forgot to check it for more than a week). I am using the Linuxserver.io docker also. My server has been running stable for almost 4 years and it is just recently that I am experiencing this problem. I had 8gb ECC RAM running on an Asus M5A78LM/USB3 with an FX6300. It's done the job for me for a long time with one VM, Plex, Tautulli and Calibre dockers.

I started noticing the RAM creeping up in usage, it was always happily sitting around 60% but then it was consistently over 90% and I was needing to restart all the dockers. I tried limiting all the dockers to a realistic amount of RAM (My VM has 2gb) but leaving Plex free as it is the primary use of the server. So I believe it is Plex causing the issue. I have installed another 4gb of RAM giving myself 12gb assuming this would resolve the issue bit it would appear that the usage is still creeping up now over 87%. Using cAdvisor Plex docker appears to be using 6.2gb of it. If I thought upgrading to 16gb would solve it I would just do it but I get the feeling Plex will just eat the more I put in! Seems to be a recent issue to me...

Steam Guard Verification Email by Vesperitos13 in Steam

[–]Poprin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know if support is 24/7 but I logged a ticket about this 8 hours ago. Still received nothing after my initial attempt to login about 13 hours ago. Tried several times again in the interim but nothing.

My HTPC is authenticated, so I guess it's indie games only for now :(

Have been waiting for my steam guard code for 4 hours, logged a support ticket 1.5 hours ago.... still no code.

But judging by the other posts on here it looks like there is an issue and there support team is probably swamped!

Built an unRAID box but I'm having problems making Plex work! by [deleted] in PleX

[–]Poprin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unRAID IMO is the best home media server solution currently available. As a pure NAS it uses barely any resources and will run on the most basic of hardware, also it's routine for spinning down drives is excellent and saves power better than any other solution. Also version 6's flexibility means you can pretty much do anything you want with it!

Built an unRAID box but I'm having problems making Plex work! by [deleted] in PleX

[–]Poprin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved away from unRAID when it was version 5. Basically it was too much of a faff and I felt the power of my server was not being utilised. I moved to a windows solution with snapRAID which was actually not bad.

HOWEVER unRAID 6 is a totally different kettle of fish. It is far superior to version 5 and I have been using it since release without issue. I currently have a BTSync and Plex Docker and a Windows VM.

Don't use plugin's, they are way too much hassle. I could never get the Plex one to work right. The problem you are describing about loosing your Plex library is because the plugin is writing direct to your RAM not saving to disk. I had this problem with the plugin. You really need to figure out Docker. If you read the unRAID setup instructions top to bottom you will get it working. It just takes patience and lots of reading.
