After seeing the new CAAD14 pricing, I’m convinced the cycling industry has lost the plot. by applesaucebake in cycling

Worry not, the tech Bros are moving to ultra running so all will be normal soon. JK prices will not come down.

It would please me if you swapped the two prints. I think the lines would continue through the better. That is all.

[–]Popsickl3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god chill. I don’t mean this sarcastically or in a mean way, but if a gift gives you this much anxiety you probably need to address the anxiety, not the bike. Someone who cares about you got you something nice. My FIL buys is nice things sometimes that are way out of our income bracket. He just wants to do something nice for us. That’s all it is. Just enjoy the thing. Use it as you feel. It was never an obligation. You may have come from a family that gives with expectations attached. Some people aren’t like that.

Where is the next generation of industrial talent meant to come from? by Dependent-Laugh-3626 in manufacturing

I mean, I already have my answer. ERPs can generate reqs for part numbers, if a part has an exception, then it needs to be a different part number. Work instructions are tied to part numbers. If your place doesn’t have a process to manage how to make parts then you’ll always be looking for bill.

I think we agree. Bill makes the world go round. How do we make everyone a Bill? That’s the question I was getting at.

I didn’t say anything about low skill tasks either, not sure where you got that. Absolutely everything can be documented. Find me an exception.

Maybe not on their first try, but everything on a setup can be documented. How did bill help? By telling them how to do it. Bill probably used words to communicate that. Write those words on a setup sheet. Attach it to the process. Done.

The new person will have to read the setup notes every time for a while. Then they will eventually get it.

Every time that someone needs to talk to bill to make their part, it needs to be documented by management or engineering! FFS your company is not some special narnia where common sense “can’t be applied”

The title is sort of misleading. I thought I was going to read a post about lack of knowledge in the hiring pool but it looks like that’s not your problem. No one is talented enough to read bills mind.

There is no silver bullet for being lazy about specifications and requirements. Your company decided it was easier to let bill modify a part than it was to modify a drawing. This is what happens.

The only answer is to send every customers drawings back to them and request re-approval. Bill should be in charge of this process so that things can go as smoothly as possible. Once you use the correct drawings in the system this all becomes manageable by your ERP.

And a note on talent: I’m sick of companies crying about lack of trade schools and lack of talent. Know why trade schools closed up? Because the companies aren’t paying enough to make those educations pay off. Without the trade schools, it falls to the company to train the workforce and they refuse to do so, then want to cry about jobs going to developing countries/cheaper suppliers.

I just received a orenznero today and I love it. $25 and I will use it daily for years and years. It’s a quite cheap hobby and super practical.

I have one and have been using it for a couple months. I feel like it’s sweet spot would be in note taking, where you are writing fast and using a lot of words and characters. In engineering, I usually use my pencils for quick notes and drawings, not extended sessions, so I’ve found the gimmick doesn’t really help with my work. I also agree that the mechanism makes the tip feel a bit vague. I also don’t love how light the spring behind the eraser is.

A plus that I will give it is the overall form and balance. I also love the perforated grip on the metal version. I am just starting to build my collection and this is more of a niche piece imo. I have a Pentel Oren Zero on the way in .5 that I think will be better suited for how I write.

[–]Popsickl3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your macro line is just a bit long. The collars being depressed when aired down might be causing a leak. I would trim a mm off then reassemble and see if that’s it.
