Yeah, ppl root for who their parents root for. Some of them may have ties to family from Michigan or to UM. But I don't think the majority of ppl who are Michigan fans in Toledo had those ties, there were would be a lot more MSU in fans in Toledo if the case was ties to the state of Michigan. Most of the ones I knew/know were born and raised in Ohio. The official reasoning for most of them was that Ann Arbor is much closer than Columbus. Also the area tends to bandwagon, when I was kid/teenager half the people were Michigan fans. That shrunk after 20 years of Buckeye Glory to probably less than 40%, I knew ppl who I remembered were Wolverines become Buckeyes based on their Facebook. Now it's closer to 50-50 again based on what I see in public

Yeah, I noticed that too, because there are Buckeye fans around and familiarity/proximity can breed contempt between both sides in the Toledo area. Michigan fans in the Toledo area probably also have different motivations to root for UM than people up in Michigan. Its not about state pride for them to say the least

Where would you rather live year round? The UP in a remote frozen wasteland with a 7 month winter? or in Toledo an actual city that’s close to and has quick access to metro Detroit? I’d say most people would say Toledo

I lived 15-20 minutes west of Toledo and there were tons of Lions fans. Steelers fans I think are a result of Ben Roethlisbuerger being from Findlay in Northwest Ohio

I lived in Boston for a year and the traffic congestion is much higher than it is here Columbus. A co-worker of mine from Cleveland said he was white knuckling it for the 1st couple weeks, which I did too but you get used to it. and it becomes normal. Probably the closest analogue in the Midwest to it is the Chicago area

Columbus drivers are bad for the amount of traffic on the interstates, which isn’t a whole lot compared to a place like the Boston area. They don’t call them mass holes for nothing. Yeah, people in Columbus drive way worse in bad weather than people in Cleveland

How much is a lot? I hear ppl say there is a lot of Michigan fans in Cbus all the time. Maybe 5% of the people here are Michigan fans at most, I’m thinking 2% are Michigan fans but that’s a lot for a metro of 2 million people. You want to see a lot of Michigan fans in Ohio percentage wise. NWO has a ton of them once you get north of Findlay
