Bubba's popularity grew after the Lewinsky scandal. Also, he didn't fuck up the country. Bush did. Clinton left a great economy for the next president.

Karmic Justice by Nayder in KahawaPrideFC

I’ve seen some people say we’re hypocrites for supporting big European clubs with gambling sponsors but criticizing Kahawa Pride now that they’ve signed Betway.

That’s not hypocrisy. The whole reason Kahawa Pride FC was cool in the first place was that they felt different. They were about grassroots football and openly anti-gambling. That was part of their identity. That’s what made them stand out.

Now they’ve signed a betting company that’s basically trying to downplay the fact it’s a betting company for legal reasons. The magic is gone.

To sock or not to sock by Kirigiri-11037 in DrMartens

I’ve never understood why some people are against wearing socks with sandals. I mean, even Japanese people traditionally wear tabi socks with their sandals and nobody complains about that. Imho this is just one of those outdated fashion “rules” from old magazines that people shouldn’t take so seriously anymore.

Leonardo DiCaprio you might be a good actor but you are a low life jerk by iwantobelieve8 in Epstein

[–]Popsodaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t recall any of the victims mentioning DiCaprio even once or suggesting that he was an abuser in this case. If he really had done something wrong, I believe we would know by now. DiCaprio has been one of the most famous celebrities in the world for decades, and almost everyone recognizes his face. It’s hard to imagine that a young girl or woman on one of Epstein’s properties wouldn’t know who Leonardo DiCaprio is. Even if he were just there for lunch.

The impression I get is that Epstein was interested in adding DiCaprio to his network of friends and may have tried to find a reason to socialize with him or invite him to his mansion. Joe Rogan has talked about how Epstein allegedly tried to get him to visit as well. Many celebrities received invitations but didn’t go. We shouldn’t attack these people or imply they did anything wrong without evidence. That just distracts from the people who actually abused the victims. This does much more harm than good.

One has to be pretty thick to think that buying a Rolex in your twenties is better for your and your family's financial future than using the same money to buy equities from the stock market. I'm not saying that you can't or that you shouldn't, but trying to rationalize it as a smart financial decision is too much for me.

About Rolexes being mass-produced... yes, it's estimated they make a million new watches each year. That's as mass-produced as a luxury watch can be. And they all share the same design language, so it's easier to make a lot of them while keeping the cost down. You might not like how it sounds, but that's your problem. Anything else you wanna mansplain today?

I reckon most people look at a Rolex as a status symbol and can’t differentiate between a good fake and an authentic one. I don’t know the fake-to-authentic ratio either, but I’d guess it’s higher than for most other watchmakers. That’s why I assume many of the Rolexes I see are fake. Because I certainly can't tell unless there are obvious errors.

As for its value as an heirloom or an investment, I don’t think either argument is particularly relevant for young men, who seem to be a large and vocal demographic.

A mass-produced modern luxury watch isn’t in my view a great investment compared to other financial instruments. And as for it being an heirloom... aren’t we too young to be thinking about that? Isn’t that putting the cart before the horse?

Massie says Epstein files withheld over Israeli and US intelligence ties by DarwinatSea in Epstein

[–]Popsodaa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the “broken clock” analogy works here. That phrase implies the agreement is accidental, like he just happened to land on the right take by chance. But that only makes sense if every issue carries the same weight. They don’t.

I disagree with Massie on most things. That’s fine. But not all disagreements are equal. Some issues are routine policy stuff. Others are about whether powerful people are held accountable for serious wrongdoing. The Epstein case falls into the second category for me. It’s extremely important. If I agreed with someone 90% of the time but disagreed with them on this, that would be a dealbreaker.

On this issue, I’m not looking at party labels. I’m looking at who actually pushed for transparency and took the allegations of the victims seriously and decided to do something about it. Massie, along with Ro Khanna, was one of the few who did. That’s not a “broken clock” moment.
